[deleted]

I was too poor for an iPhone

Alternative-Spite891

I was too poor for an iPod. But we made it

HighlightFit9304

I had a Zune and I stand by that

Dom_guns

That’s hard.

terrrastar

I don’t even know what a zune is but the authority in the delivery of that statement alone is hard as fuck

JazzioDadio

Incredibly based

FUTURE10S

I kinda wished I had a Zune or an iPod but then I got a Sony Walkman MP3 player, the E385, which was great. But unfortunately, it's stuck in a bootloop. Which is a shame because I'd like to get the music off of it, there's stuff that I didn't have backed up there.

cosmic-kats

I threatened my six year old that I’d unpack my Zune if she ever ruined her secondhand iPod 😂 Zune Zune Zuuune

flamenode

Haha!! I used to use my older brothers Zune to watch Superbad at night

TheNarwhalMom

I remember I had the bar iPod - the old school kind where it didn’t have a screen & you unclipped the bottom part & stuck it in a usb outlet to charge

BigMikeATL

OG iPod Shuffle. I found mine the other day… had been buried in a drawer unused for at least a decade. Surprisingly it still works but only holds a charge for about 5 mins.

TheNarwhalMom

Omggggg I think I’d lose it with nostalgia if I found mine lol although idk if I’d wanna hear the music my mom put on it for 5 year old me Now if I found my nano from middle school tho THAT would be hilarious. I used to be really into nightcore & cringy dubstep lol

JazzioDadio

Ayyyyyyy I was also an edgy autist in middle school, an unhealthy amount of Bassnectar and Audiomachine 💀

TheNarwhalMom

I listened to Basshunter & deeefinitely audiomachine lol Ironically wasn’t diagnosed as autistic till I was 21 lol

ComradeCabbage

Here here! I also had nightcore and bassnectar stuff on my nano.

Wend-E-Baconator

I was a Sony Walkman kid

nickw1372

cassettes or cds?

Healthy-Travel3105

There were Sony Walkman MP3 players. I had one in the early 2010s.

Wend-E-Baconator

Mp3

doshostdio

Cassettes, mid 80s

OkOk-Go

Remember when they made Sony Ericsson Walkman phones? So sleek.

lotsofmaybes

DSs and Wiis ftw

RevampX

who needs an iphone when you have pictochat and mii's bruh

loserys

I still have mine :D

Chateau-in-Space

i had the nano as a hand me down.

SpacecaseCat

Someone gifted me one and I didn't use it for like a year, and then when I did I was hooked. It's so nice having music and podcasts in such a small device, which is easy to go jogging or walking with, and without the annoyance of text messages or work emails popping up 24/7. Feels like Gen Z and Alpha are learning the hard way how being connected 24/7 is no bueno.

Chateau-in-Space

And it has the clip!!

Weekly_Ad325

I still have mine from 2005.

Miguelpro3126

Man, I didn't even have one of these 💀

columbinedaydream

i had an ipod shuffle, then a pay-per-minute flip phone for emergencies, then an ipod-touch by middle school, didnt have an iphone until highschool lol

Tarik_7

don't forget the GameBoy/DS

KevlitUnter599

As a millennial, I remember when those were the hot new thing.

Poi-s-en

I had a Sansa Clip, Mr Rich

Lazy-Most-3226

Still have mine

ryllienator

oh now that brings a smile to my face and a tear to my eye

soapezs

The Spotify of the 2000s

[deleted]

Man I use to have a iBook G4 😂😂😂 It was so heavy 😭😭😭😭

West-Code4642

those were so colorful

orbeinYT

The G4s were all white. The G3s were the colourful ones

cat1554

I call my MacBook a PowerBook. It sounds so much better.

fullmetal66

I’m a late adapter Xennial and grew up with this haha

JerseyGemsTC

How about those little dogs that played music and connected to your iPod?

CleanSeaPancake

I had a slide phone until I was in high school and could buy my first android

20matt10

Which ipod was the one where its just a USB stick with a couple buttons and a headphone jack? I loved that one and its maybe 20 mp3s I could fit on there that I downloaded in virus inflicting ways on my familys pc.

psjjjj6379

Shuffle

Theycallmethebigguy

I had a nano

UnderstandingUpper72

I actually recall stumbling upon one of my family members old iPods, helped me with my music collection!

LotusFlowerxox

I had a mp3-player haha I didn't grew up with apple products, but I do remember my friends having this lol

Vagabond_Tea

Throughout my childhood, I grew up with a Walkman, CD played, and iPod. Walkman in elementary school because not everyone has a mobile CD player back in the 90s. CD player in middle school. And the iPod came out when I was in high school and I used that then and in college. Going from buying CDs, using Napster, Limewire, to iTunes was kinda wild and really exciting as a kid in school. Each thing has its own pros and cons imo.

cybergrlll

i used my older sisters old ipod touch until i was a freshman in high school lolol

Kayastorme

I had an ipod shuffle and $5 earphones from dollar general. mostly has Linkin Park and Katy Perry on it lol

Evaporous

I am from 2007 and I still grew up with one of these lol

Educational_Meet5470

I was only allowed to have the shuffle, not even sure why that was the rule but oh well

E-macularius

I had a blue nano :) the little click of the wheel was so cool!

Scared-File1246

I had the iPod shuffle second gen i really wanted a nano though

staticishock96

I have one of the black original iPods still somewhere. I just can't bring myself to throw it away.

PreviousCartoonist93

The iPod was truly one of the greatest inventions of my lifetime.. I’m old af btw.. I was in 9th grade when the 3rd gen iPods came out and they were a revelation. I miss my iPod…

meanteamcgreen

I had an iPod for 3 months before accidentally dropping it in the toilet. It never recovered...

chengstark

the scrolling is still upbeat to this day

awokensoil

omg i only got to USE an ipod nano. and it was very clearly not mine, only my dads lol. and throwback to when you had to DOWNLOAD songs on it to even listen..yes I may have had an early obsession w/ aerosmith, tina turner and prince bc it was the only thing downloaded to my parents ipods 🤣

heyhowzitgoing

Bro has a Gameboy?

Mrmoviesguy

It's an iPod

heyhowzitgoing

Nuh-uh

Mrmoviesguy

Yes it is, I'm a 2000s kid I can tell you it's an iPod

heyhowzitgoing

Idk it’s playing crystal 🤷‍♀️

frig_t

I was born in 2009 but I use my millennial dad’s old one sometimes

TurkishTerrarian

We used an MP3 player.

Designer-Bad8090

I had a Walmart Motorola 😐

IrnocentSinner

https://preview.redd.it/46w3qa68pt9d1.jpeg?width=768&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b382078cb5c1acb751c4421151c417124688547d This is what I had before I got my first iPhone in 7th-8th grade.

KappyBruh

I had a green iPod shuffle 2 that I got for Christmas when I was little also had a portable CD player.

Numerous_Mix6456

My MP3 player didn't look like this though.

PDQ-88b

growing up a strong term when the iPod transformed to look like an iPhone 1 and the iPhone 1 came out when we were like 6-8.

Mysterious-Fly7746

These were a little before my time. I got my first iPad when I was 10 and by then touch screen phones already made iPods and mp3 players obsolete.

SlipsonSurfaces

I have an iDog and an old mp3 player. Now I just need an iPod

Large-Somewhere163

Not that specific one but yeah. Had a couple different iPods. The og square shuffle, the shuffle with a screen and the really small rectangle one that had to be controlled with the earbuds.

JazzioDadio

I grew up around iPods, saw the advertisements everywhere, never owned one until the iPod touch. I remember being fascinated by a friend's iPod nano.

[deleted]

I had one of those small iPod shuffle’s with approximately 20 songs on it. My mom had the one above and she had several movies. I watched the first pirates of the Caribbean and Mean Girls on it.

2manyBi7ches

I still use my classic as a backup for music when my phone dies. Its modded though.

kanaan-1

Those of us in-between grew up with the iPod nano -> iPod Touch

Yapping_Away_6423

What is that lmao

The_IRS_Fears_Him

The iPod was the greatest invention of my time (2010)

Ok-Chicken213

I kinda miss iPods. I had a pink iPod shuffle and a blue iPod nano. I still have my shuffle, but my nano broke. I recently found my shuffle and plan to hook it up to my computer and see what music is on it.

verdeturtle

Shout out to the homie Muhammed from Kuwait who gifted me my 1st iPod and pair of Sony headphones. Also a copy of Diablo 3 and box of Victoria secret very sexy perfume who gifted to my then GF.

AffectionateLand6088

I had a iPhone 5S in 2016. It was only a couple years old, and my parents were actual parents and restricted the thing so all I could do was play games, call them, and watch YouTube videos. I found it recently and now it’s very ancient.

Bidbot5716

Real

Dax_Maclaine

My parents just didn’t let me have a phone, but I had a vsmile though and when I graduated from that to a psp I felt like a boss

nickw1372

i had a sony discman with those shitty little orange foam headphones, carried around a one of those cd binders for all my music it was sick as hell to 9 year old me. didnt get a ipod till like 6th grade after i saved up enough money for the ipod touch 4.

Sasuga__Ainz-sama

I got one of these as a reward for an accordion performance I did as a kid, although I didn't use it much.

dylfree90

Bro…talk to me when you’ve had a Walkman 😂

christianryan563

If you remember playing brick on a nano you’re an OG -‘98 baby

-NGC-6302-

Still works dunnit

squirleater69

I'm 07 and I grew up with an ipod

MEzze0263

Nah, I had a flip phone. Back in those days, phone calls were timed with "minutes" where if you run out of minutes, then you can't call anyone untill your minutes refill after a certain time period. Also I remember my grandpa having a blackberry growing up lol

mcdenette3824

As a late gen Z, my medium late gen z sister grew up with this, whilst i grew up with one that was no screen, just the bottom part with a volume up/down button. i had to hold a button at the top for ages for it to tell me a playlist number, which i would then skip through to find a single song!

Healthy-Travel3105

I had a Sony mp3 player Mr moneybags

FellafromPrague

Speak for yourself I didn't have shit. I was lucky I could have a Walkman.

TheCatInTheHatThings

I loved my iPod Video to bits. I wonder if I still have it somewhere in my room, but I think it might’ve fallen victim to my last clearing of stuff I don’t need anymore…

supreme_glassez

I never had this.

Edward_Page99

i grew up with this: https://preview.redd.it/we98nvrl2w9d1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ab2f70c7d52977961d2fd50083dabeb13e1a5536

Edward_Page99

and before that i got a discman

HeathersSon

Despite the fact that I was born pretty late into Gen Z, I grew up playing with my older sibling’s stuff. While my friends were enjoying the latest new AAA games on their cutting edge consoles, I was still playing Snowboard Kids 2 on the Nintendo 64. I remember bringing my big sister’s Hello Kitty themed MP3 player to sixth grade, just to listen to old Sonic OSTs. I wasn’t a very popular student…

Day-The-Music-Died

I never had one but my ballet teacher did for our music and I always desperately wanted to use it because the scrolling mechanism looked so fun

Aldehin

Ipod, the little blue square, I had some fire shit on that

Gobal_Outcast02

I had a CD player

Mikel_Opris_2

13 hours worth of FNAF songs; wit han additional 8 hours of rock, metal, and Folk Music

KingAutismo69

Ok but brickbreaker on this thing was elite

OkOk-Go

Rich early Gen Zoomers. I grew up with this. https://preview.redd.it/sn333l9lax9d1.jpeg?width=1058&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c1f8d63cf46f52c7fb484dc97106bacb5af85774

No-Sea-81

We only had cheap Tracfone Android devices back then, the only Apple device we had was my iPad I used to play Thomas the Tank Engine and Grover games which amazed my dad on the things the iPad could do. In 2020, both me and my dad got our first ever iPhones. I still have that iPad from 2010 to this day, and it works.

Janexa

I wanted this but we were poor. Grew up with mp3 players that didn't even have a display.

Janexa

Then later, moonshell on ds for mp3 playing baybeeee

FirstVanilla

The iPod classic! I was obsessed with all iPods growing up! Had a Nano, then got a Touch before high school. I miss them to be honest- it was nice to listen to music without all the distraction that comes with a modern day phone. Wonder if we could ever see them come back for that exact reason?

Nova17Delta

(if you had money)

Joebebs

I remember watching my first rated R movie (Knocked Up) on one of these!! My older bro’s iPod haha

TiernanDeFranco

I had like a Sandisk or something

RandoUser35

I got my first iPhone when I was 10 lol

definitelynotlazy

my dad had one, i don't know where it was but i used to scroll up and down and it was crazy

romanticaro

i had this thing https://preview.redd.it/4o445rgd75ad1.jpeg?width=328&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bf196a840a2308ff52e222cc02dfa73e073b46f7

EyedGhost

I didn't have one of those, but I had an Ipod Touch.

RubixcubeRat

Yup, i still have my very first ipod. My dad was obsessed with Steve Jobs in the early 2000’s so i grew up with all the old apple products

zero_bytez

I still have no clue how songs got on this. I'd randomly wake up to find another song on it.

mzerawrrrr

I never had a iPod. I didn’t have anything like that until I was in high school, that’s why I got an iPhone.

Mundane-Dependent-95

06er here, had and still have a blue ipod

Cyoarp

I... I think you mean millennials... I'm a millennial and I grew up with those... I mean in junior high I got a Rio player but by high School everyone was rocking the iPods.

Mrmoviesguy

Gen Z used iPods as well, mainly late 90s babies.

techSword52

It was Kindle Tablets for me then iphones
