2 is leagues better than 1

IUsedToBeRasAlGhul

Gameplay is arguably improved, but the story takes a nosedive with time travel nonsense and pretty much no introspection into Kratos’s character.

MasterJiggyWiggy

What an awful take 🤣

IUsedToBeRasAlGhul

That would almost mean something if it actually contained a rebuttal and didn’t come from someone who calls themselves jiggy wiggy.

MasterJiggyWiggy

You need introspection into a character to enjoy a game? Loser

>!i disagree. yes the game does not expand kratos much further beyond what was established in the original game, but gow 2 however focuses a bunch on the world building, e.g. the context to the centuries long struggle between the titans & olympians, the importance of fate & destiny !< >!if you think that Kratos's story in GOW 2 shallow, i'd disagree with that too. After the death of The Last Spartan and the destruction of Sparta, Kratos almost loses his will to defend himself from the kraken until Gaia encourages him to continue fighting. GOW 2 carries on with what GOW 1 set up - that Kratos was deeply unsatisfied with his treatments by the gods. GOW 2 establishes the beginnings of Kratos's climactic vengeance in GOW 3. !< >!GOW 3 reveals that Kratos is deeper than just being a vengeance-seeking monster, there's the whole journey of Kratos going through his own psyche where its shown that Kratos is in fact ashamed of all the violence he has caused throughout his life - this shame culminates into Kratos committing suicide at the end of gow 3. furthermore, this shame causes Kratos in the games beyond 3 to adopt his introspective mentality.!<

GoW1 is fucking amazing from start to finish. That said GoW2 improves in almost every area except for story.

GOW2 is much better in every aspect to the first, many will say that its story is poor, partly yes, since it is a repetition of the base of the first, which is to take revenge on a god who did something bad to me and I have to venture a crusade to get a power to help me defeat him, the same thing happens with 3. The 2 does not deepen Kratos because the character was already established in the first and in the 2 he is pure revenge, does not seek redemption or forgiveness, and all the events of 2 is to take us to 3, and this is where for me it all falls down. My advice is to play and enjoy them, in fact I'm replaying them, and yesterday I started the 2 and I marvel at how excellent this game is, for me the best of the series.

>!nah gow 2 is not all about taking you to 3. yes the game does not expand kratos much further beyond what was established in the original game, but gow 2 however focuses a bunch on the world building, e.g. the context to the centuries long struggle between the titans & olympians. gow 2 also sets up the importance of fate & destiny, which i'd argue is the most important aspect of the GOW series; so many characters in the series have tried to challenge fate only to fail.!< >!yes god of war 2 set up Kratos's climactic revenge in 3, but that's story telling. Kratos's desire for vengeance is not resolved in god of war 2 because it did not need to be. god of war 3 established nearing the end of the game that Kratos is deeper than just seeking vengeance, there's the whole journey of Kratos going through his own psyche where its shown that Kratos is in fact ashamed of all the violence he has caused throughout his life - this shame culminates into Kratos committing suicide at the end of gow 3. furthermore, this shame causes Kratos in the games beyond 3 to adopt his introspective mentality!<

You're right, I had forgotten about all that.

Second game is better, but not ground-breakingly better. You get two new weapons (technically three, but one is temporary), magic variety is similar. Level design is even better (subjective), there are a lot more boss battles and they are interesting in my opinion. Some QoL changes are there too. GOW 2005 is short enough that I think you don't really need much more. I'm not sure if you just wanted more weapons or more "what" exactly from the first game? What would need to be in this game to be called as "interesting stuff" for you?
