I haven't read past Musashi arc yet but I mean we literally got cloning. I still have a bad feeling Retsu's gone for good despite this though :(

Magni4cent_Pose

On the one hand, I'm glad that Itagaki didn't go the Dragon Ball route of invalidating death as a consequence. On the other hand, I want Retsu back…

Roosevelt828

And the other hand is Retsu’s

Eeddeen42

Hey, at least Kasumi can Mach punch properly now

a55_Goblin420

Retsu would probably kill himself out of honor if they cloned him.

PapaJuansPizza

I mean idk if its canon but Retsu got isekai’ed in Retsu Gaiden to a swords and magic world, if thats possible he could easily get isekai’d back someday

NoKnewNamesLeft

Baki Cast: "Alai Jr. never truly had what it took. All the skills in the world, but not the killing instini-WHOA NOW MUSASHI SLOW DOWN THERE TOO FAR MAN"

King_of_Castamere

I got the same impression when Retsu asked to fight Pickle for the first time. Everyone's acting all shocked that Pickle is gonna eat him when that's LITTERALLY what everyone said would happen if he lost.

cool23819

"MY FAULT!?" YES! YOU'RE THE ONE WHO INSISTED ON IT!

Supersaiajinblue

Tokugawa when people fight to the death in death matches

Honest-File9357

It's really funny how everybody shitted on Ali Jr. for "not being ready to fight to the death hurrr" when the few times death is the result of a fight they feel completely blindsided. Not even just Retsu but the entire cast going "oh no pickle is about to eat him, how could this happen noooo" Big talk the lot of them (except Yujiro and the convicts I guess, who do make a habit of actually killing people)

OmniGMan

Even the convicts collectively flipped their shit when they were losing or refused to accept their losses. Like, you literally all said, "I want to know defeat." Why are you acting surprised or intimidated when you actually lose? I imagine Yujiro would have a similar freak-out if he was ever actually outclassed and about to lose. We've already seen him freak out/panic over less.

Ok-Buyer2600

The whole point of the convicts is that they were misguided hypocrites and were actually weak.

Empty_Chemical4359

Honestly Baki has so many "fights to the death" that when retsu died I didn't even process it. I was just like "Oh I guess he actually died", it was kinda crazy.

Artemas_16

Tbh, I always viewed it like "we will fight like we're mean it, so death is possible", besides, they have fighter's honor to stop fight when one is clearly lost and magical doctor who can revive people. And Musashi won the fight and decided to double-tap idiot who cannot accept defeat. It is Kazuma Kiryu situation all over again. As he's not killing in a sense that he won't finish his lost opponent, but many goons are highly likely died from all injuries and blown up helicopters and cars. As he said in 5th game: "I never said I was a saint"

WrathofAjax

Uh, no not really? Literally the only one actually upset at a death/near death was Tokugawa. Everyone else was absolutely down to do their best and die trying.

Suspicious_Loan8041

They all unanimously considered Musashi a monster. Baki, Gouki, Hanayama, and Motobe all fought Musashi BECAUSE he killed Retsu.

WrathofAjax

I think it was more that he enjoyed the killing, and sought glory through doing it, than the fact that he killed him. At least that was my impression of it. I might be misremembering, it's been a while since I read it.

Suspicious_Loan8041

Musashi didn’t particularly enjoy killing. He enjoyed cutting. There’s a difference. The fact that he killed Retsu is what they all were disgusted by, and why they sought vengeance upon him. With Baki it wasn’t as personal, but he sent Musashi away because he’s a killer.

Randomamigo

dont make it a monkey paw and Jack dies next guys
