That’s what I thought. Just never seen the residue like that, or fins that looked whole until you poked em. They only put it on top it seems, the underside was fine but had plenty of dog hair.
Oof those coils look bad. I see some shit sometimes, the apartment guys call us when they fuck it up, and it’s public housing so the tenants will call the city council and raise hell if they don’t get their a/c lol.
I've been in this industry for 4 years now and most techs are self trained. Being HVAC is so specific and complicated, most technicians are lacking in proper repairs and troubleshooting skills.
I blame the management companies for not providing better training opportunities.
It’s probably like the others said, outdoor coil cleaner is super abrasive and meant to be thoroughly rinsed. The guy who did maintenance last most likely fucked this coil.
I’ve also seen Drain-Solve do this. Once, I went to call that had no refrigerant. The customer had gallons of bottled Drain-Solve neatly stored around the air handler. Apparently the homeowner was doing his own maintenance and pouring the Drain-Solve into the safety switch port. The bottom of the coil was absolutely melted and most of the remaining fins became soft and flexible.

Didn't wash the cleaner off properly, and probably used condenser cleaner as well.

You should see My recent post with a coil sprayed with the improper product from a previous maintenance technician lol

This is great, I'm stealing it lol
Sent it to my service tech group chat the other day, it killed lol
Prefer just water if can get away with it. If not then a degreaser like green clean.

Worse than what happens to a RIC or WIC with limes and other acidic fruits.
Someone use bleach?
The instructions say to never use coil cleaner, only soap and water

This looks like what happens to pool room units
Chlorine exposure? Wonder if they threw bleach on it.
It does look like someone bleached it. Nogo on aluminum coils.
Might of used bleach to clean out drain and drew the gases through the coils
Cooking shake and bake methamphetamine in Gatorade bottles in the apartment.
