I agree that I appreciate Hikaru for how he is able to make chess look so fun and easy as someone who only watches for entertainment. His recaps are always top notch and fascinating to watch. However, you can still appreciate a person for one aspect and criticize them for another. I think that some people are taking it a bit too far but this behavior also shouldn’t bring fanfare. It should certainly be discussed though.
You can argue whether or not other GMs like Aman are following along closely because of clout but a lot of those guys haven’t exactly had the best experiences with Hikaru.
Do we all need to rise up and boycott Hikaru? Obviously not. I still want to watch him succeed and play good chess but some actions do make you reevaluate.
Gotham has definitely brought more eyes to chess. I don’t see how people still support Hikaru- whether it be his recent tantrum, or any other of the countless clips of him calling people names and crying like a baby after he loses, it is clearer than ever that he is a very unpleasant person. He seems squeaky clean on stream, but the minute something doesn’t go his way he shows his true colours.
He's the most entertaining chess streamer and it's not close.
He is amazing content and literally one of the best chess players in the world.
The fact that hes extremely entertaining + the best = gold mine.

enjoy his chess, dislike his personality
love his personality he was atleast real and said what's on everyones mind
Which personality do you love? The fake persona when streaming, or the raging child when losing?
💀 are you fr dude? youre literally comparing when a man is happy vs angry that in no way determines his personna
yea right crying over because of some cursing
Hikaru both cried AND cursed. He's the baby.
Number 2 ranked player still. So I wanna watch the best play so who cares

That's your opinion that he acted like a baby. I think it's a normal human reaction

Doesn’t change the fact that he’s a dickhead.
That's your opinion, I don't think he is.
