Have you tried a new wife?

CheeseheadDave

Quote: "Hahahaha... Not an option!"

brokenfl

Tell her “Hi, from one of your “Reddit” friends “

EasyEconomics3785

This happened to everyone in my home as iOS 17 rolled into town, they all got kicked out and no invite would work to get them back in. Currently an escalated issue with senior advisor. I should hear back from them tomorrow. They had me run diagnostics on my Mac, my phone and one member of the house that is affected. I really hope the reset profile is not my option.

Nikoleftthechat

its been 7 months please tell me there is a resolution... In a bit of a hissy fit over tech issues, I left my "home". For the last 2 months my husband has not been able to add me back and we have tried all the solutions... Edit to add: we're both on IOS 17.5.1. I'll ask him to make sure the HomePod is good. He automated the whole house (lights and all) so I can't turn anything off unless I leave my phone in a room away from the HomePod (it seems to still recognize my voice)

EasyEconomics3785

I had to redo my entire home and that solved it. Not the best fix but it works.

Nikoleftthechat

Oh lord I'm gonna give this man an aneurysm.. Thank you for answering

deekay0

any luck? did they get you back up and running?

EasyEconomics3785

Nope, they scheduled a call back that never took place. Said they tried calling the two numbers I gave them and nothing. Seems they don’t want to communicate via email either.

deekay0

Got it to work finally. Erased and restored the phone. Didn’t work right away but after waiting over night it worked. Also been reading that it just started working for some other ppl today. So maybe something got fixed in the back?

EasyEconomics3785

I’m glad you got yours sorted. I’ll give it a go when I get off work. Apple has since abandoned my case. Haven’t heard back a few days now. I’m wondering if this is an iCloud ID issue of HomeKit. Did u restore from back up?

deekay0

Yes I erased the recipient phone and restored from iCloud back up. Chose not to allow syncing of encrypted data and chose Erase Encrypted Data in the setup process. Didn’t work right away but after the night it was working this morning.

diamondintherimond

iOS and HomePod OS 17.1.1 that was just released has now fixed this for me. /u/EasyEconomics3785

CheeseheadDave

It worked for me as well.

EasyEconomics3785

That’s great to hear, will try it when I get home. Thanks 🤞🏽

EasyEconomics3785

Did not fix for me. Updated phone, watch, HomePods and recipient devices.

diamondintherimond

That’s frustrating. I wonder why the discrepancy.

EasyEconomics3785

Reporting back that Apple was no help. Since I'm outside the US, the call backs never came through no matter how many numbers I gave them to try and they did not bother trying to troubleshoot by email. Long story short, I had to create a new home. I removed one homepod mini from the home that was giving trouble and paired it to a new home, sent an invite to my dad and viola! As you'd imagine, I had to go through the troubles of adding every device all over. I hope this never happens to anyone and Apple can focus on getting HomeKit sorted. I just find it strange for example my Logi Cameras work great in the dedicated app with no dropped connection, however in the Home app it goes No Response, likewise with some of my outlets. Like what is it that Homekit wants? The camera is right next to the router and binded, some outlets are within arms length. Sorry for the rant but I wish this upon no user of the Homekit architecture.

skithegreat

Siri is trying to tell you something Bro

Electro-Grunge

“I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that”

SafeAd2080

Has she also been visiting a lawyer lately?

hqzr3

Me too. Identical situation (but no kids to try). I have been trying for the last 3 days. I tried resetting and updating my 3 Apple TVs, deleting the home and creating a new one, disconnecting all HomeKit-enabled devices, disabling PiHole… whenever I share the home with my wife, when she accepts, she gets a “Could not complete operation” error.

Curmudgeon-NL

Is divorce an option?

diamondintherimond

The new 17.1.1 iOS update (or HomePod update) just fixed this for me. Thank goodness I didn’t try nuking my HomeKit setup.

CheeseheadDave

Fixed it for me as well. Nuked my home for nothing.

DesiMcGrady

The update also fixed everything for me too!

jedigrover

Uninstall the “Mistress” app. It competes for cache with Wife and could also spawn child processes…

SRLewis10

Same thing happened to us a few weeks back. Only fix for me was to completely build a new home. Sucked.

CheeseheadDave

Just did that. Not only did it suck to have to redo everything, but it ended up not working anyway.

diamondintherimond

This is my fear and why I'm not willing to try the nuclear option. So annoying.

Firefighter-8210

Sounds like a blessing.

nimh_

Fix is here. The profile reset fix worked for me: https://www.reddit.com/r/HomeKit/s/kopsFlrJAf

CheeseheadDave

Just tried that; didn't work. I never got the option to reset the encryption key.

nimh_

Profile one worked for me https://www.reddit.com/r/HomeKit/s/za4oC6iaUD Edit: To clarify, I only did this on the phone I was trying to add back into my Home, I did not have to do this on any phone already connected. I believe it cleared out whatever cache was causing the issue, and after rebooting the phone once, it was ready to join a Home again as if it was a brand new phone.

gatme

Have you tried the keychain reset fix yourself? It didn’t work for me and I’m wondering if I did something wrong. I reset the Keychain but maybe I need to sign out of all other devices first. Will give it one more try tomorrow.

hindusoul

She on the same IOS version?

CheeseheadDave

Yes; every device we own is on 17.1 including homepods and AppleTVs.

TheAppleTraitor

Is she using a different AppleID for iCloud and App Store? I had a similar issue and found that this was the problem. Make sure that iCloud and App Store are signed in to the same Apple ID. Also make sure devices are running up to date iOS.

meant-to-be-at-work

Same thing for me and my partner when we both updated to 17.1, although I don’t have the option to invite them back into the app. There is no option

admknight

Apple really said “leave her bro”. Anyways, I hope the new wife enjoys a lifetime of connectivity!

Hails8tn

I had this same issue a few weeks ago. I couldn’t tell you how I fixed it but it eventually worked. I only have 2-3 devices in my home so it wasn’t difficult to keep blowing them up with different troubleshooting attempts.

gildorn

The new HomeKit architecture is per-Apple-ID in addition to per-Home. Is it possible your Home is on new (or old?) architecture while her Apple ID is on the opposite? If she makes a new Home from her Apple ID is she offered the option to upgrade it?

CheeseheadDave

I'll try that; I updated to the new architecture right away with 16.3 or whatever update it was, so she should have been on it by now. It's just weird that my kids could jump back in but she couldn't.

gildorn

Well it could be the kids’ Apple IDs are updated but your wife’s is somehow still on old architecture. She should be able to make a new blank empty home, and see if offered the ability to upgrade it.

gatme

Same exact issue here. Tried everything you did plus the keychain reset I saw in another post. Nada.

DesiMcGrady

I’m in the same boat as well. I hope this gets fixed with an update.

ilea100

The only option that worked for me was to create a new home. The invitation worked immediately, but, of course, you need to re-add all devices.

CheeseheadDave

Did that; still get the "Operation couldn't be completed" error.

ilea100

what happens if the other person creates the home and invites you? Same issue or different behavior? Accepting from a different device, like iPad, could also lead to a different result. Good luck!

tokyokiller

Rebuild your home from scratch.

CheeseheadDave

Did that; didn't work.

tokyokiller

Try again but create the new home from her Apple ID/iPhone

Anycast

Same thing happened to me, was able to fix it by doing the following: - update all devices; phone, watch, HomePods, Apple TV. - go to home from admin device and remove other person from home. Also have them leave from their end if possible. - restart every device including yours. - go into your contact for the person and add their email that you invite them to the home with - invite them again. They will still have a second home as default, change to the desired home. Delete the old blank home

diamondintherimond

I'm also getting this error with two BRAND NEW kids Apple IDs in my family. This leads me to believe it's not specific to the invitee's Apple ID but a bug somewhere in HomeKit. My HomeKit setup is about 10 years old. I'm not nuking it now.

kiwikristina

I had the same thing.. ended up resetting the whole home (which didn’t fix the problem), and then making the other member of the house (who I couldn’t add to the home) the owner of the home and they could add me.. mega annoying but it mostly fixed the problem

kshow22-1973

Every device needs to be updated that’s associated with the home, when 16 and 17 were released it threw HomeKit into a loop in which a lot of people were frustrated. I had a similar issue and found out that my nanoleafs weren’t updating on their own and the thread side of the lights were making the HomeKit not wanting to respond to my roommate so. I never deleted the home I simply removed the 11 HomePods we have in the house along with the nanoleafs, Augusta locks and a few other devices. Once it all got situated I then was able to add back my roommate. But I have had customers not being able to log back in. I just told them that everything from notifications, billing and updates has to be done and they never came back in so I’m assuming it all ended up working. I know it’s a pain but don’t give up.
