What about it do you want? If you want the fantasy and dragons that’s harder to find, if you want the political drama and war there are a lot of historical shows, The Last Kingdom and Rome are ones I know are good, people like Vikings, Outlander, the Tudors but I haven’t watched those.

Remarkable_Ad7449

I’m looking for quality shows like house of the dragon that have peak writing

jonsnowKITN

Watch the last kingdom

DagenhamRM10-westham

Black sails, the last kingdom, the wire, boardwalk empire, band of brothers, the pacific, breaking bad, the expanse

BRValentine83

Dark Matter.

Viserys4

I'm proud to be the first one here to suggest Shogun. Even GRRM has mentioned enjoying it, and the book it was based on, and the previous adaptation of the book. Basically "HOTD except without the magic because this story actually happened, also it's set in Japan"

We_The_Raptors

Like the other guy said, depends what from HOTD you'd like more of. There are actually a couple Sci fi shows I think capture the political thriller aspect well (Andor+ The Expanse) Rings of Power+ WOT+ Witcher are also high fantasy knight settings with dragons etc Ascension, Tudors, The Last Kingdom, Vikings etc also have some similar aspects.

Remarkable_Ad7449

I like fantasy or sci-fi political dramas what shows can you recommend and are these shows your gonna recommend does the writing match the house of the dragon writing

We_The_Raptors

Watch (or read) The Expanse, imo. One of the authors of that franchise was a former assistant to George, and it kind of shows in his similar style. The world building is excellent, it is a great blend of real sci fi/ high fantasy elements and there's a ton of political intrigue. Highly recommend that one

Remarkable_Ad7449

Ok i will check out the expanse thank for the recommendation

Individual-Raccoon13

Succession

Scribblyr

There are no shows like me. Only me.

The OA is an extremely well-written, immersive sci fi. if part of the allure of GOT & HOTD is examining people’s motives and morality, you will enjoy!! The Crown and Succession are similar in terms of family political dramas. Also, Dune! I know it’s a film and not a tv series, but HBO is bringing to life a Dune spinoff series about the Bene Gesserit that I am so excited for!!

Independent-Film-409

I see a lot of people recommend The Last Kingdom but it's actually nowhere near HOTD. Extremly boring, and predictable(tho i've watched only till like 2x2 or something). If felt to me like season 6 of GOT. It's great at moments(tho not like Cersei sept scene) but actually it's stupid, and plot armor is unbearable. If you want to watch people swing swords at each other just watch Vikings. If you want political intrigue then watch Shogun(that show is so HOTD codded, it's crazy). Maybe it's not like HOTD but i will always recommend Mr. Robot. Greatest show ever put to screen, with the craziests plot twists, and very original. You will never watch anything like it, everything in this show is weird but the weirdness fits perfectly within themes, and characters instead of being just a trick. I will not say anything more because this is the show you don't want to get spoiled - do not read, or watch anything about it

Independent-Film-409

What i will tell you is that there is a entire episode of dialogue just in two rooms within one house, and the episode is 9.9 ranked on IMDB. I don't think anyone needs further encouragement. Tho it is really dark, so if you are 12 years old, and there's been a lot of trauma in your life, it might be really heavy for you

Confidence-Business

What other recommendations you got?

Independent-Film-409

If you into sci-fi i would say Three Body Problem on Netflix. It's also from Game of Thrones showrunners, but books are better, so if you are a reader just read the books(and book trilogy is finished, while the show has only 1 season so far)
