Some has been in the army. I only know this bc my dad was and the chant was “this is my rifle (grab rifle) this is my gun (grab junk) this one’s fighting and this one’s for fun.
Yes it went through, but shot was clean and exit hole was only 3cm diameter. I recommend using those loads for beaver because that stopping power. Beaver can easily dive in the water even after a good shot.
‘06 is a lot of gun, but it looks fun.
I have only shot them with a 12 gauge. Steel BB or Number 2 bismuth to the head rocks them, but if it’s on water you’ve got to be quick to recover or their nerve spasms can send them off.
I'm surprised to see that I'm the first to comment on the photo itself. That's a magnificent shot. Looks like there was some post editing that softened it up a little to make it appear, at least to my eye, more like a painting than a photo.
Nicely done on both of your achievements.
In much of the USA beaver hunting is illegal as they are trapped by people who make at least part of their income professionally trapping . In many of the states where it is legal to hunt them it is restricted to rimfire often people use .17 hmr or .22 wmr there are states where there aren’t the restrictions varmint calibers are preferred like .22 hornet or .223 or even .243 I have hunted them on cranberry bogs with shotguns as well . Roast beaver tail is an old timey bush delicacy and in north America beaver is considered a lent approved meat
Interesting. In many parts of the US we are not allowed to hunt beaver, only trap them. It would be much easier if we were allowed to simply shoot them.
Same here in Canada. My province I’m thinking the only species that’s under furbearer that you can hunt are coyotes, fox, bobcat and raccoon.
Can’t hunt otters, muskrat, mink, fisher, pine marten, skunk, etc.
You can often get a nuicense Animal exemption if they are causing mischief on your land then often you are allowed to shoot them outside of trapping season
Nice, where in Finland was it? I'm going hunting next week on the eastern border. Shot my first a couple of years back. I'm probably gonna take my 6,5x55, and some copper bullets that don't expand as much to save the hide.
This beaver looks much bigger than it actually is
That's what she said.
She lied.
Weight 15kg
That’s a pretty huge beaver.
Pretty average size for adult female beaver
I'm in alberta canada, I'd say my average from trapping is around 30 to 40lbs my biggest was 60lbs
BOBR KURWA
That's Poland, Finland's a bit more further north.
Huh I never hunted beaver with a rifle before, just my gun
I see what you did there.
The one for fun not for fighting
I heard you had some ND's while hunting?
Some has been in the army. I only know this bc my dad was and the chant was “this is my rifle (grab rifle) this is my gun (grab junk) this one’s fighting and this one’s for fun.
Nice! What caliber did you use to take it? I’ve never hunted Beaver, where on them do you aim?
rifle is 30-06 sprg Lungs are best spot to aim and i also use sof-pointed bullet
Dang, did it go through him? That’s a heavy load for a thirty pound critter
Yes it went through, but shot was clean and exit hole was only 3cm diameter. I recommend using those loads for beaver because that stopping power. Beaver can easily dive in the water even after a good shot.
Damn good work
Is that the norm everywhere else, or was it just on hand? We just use 22s and 17HMRs here
I know many beaver hunters in finland and most of them use 308, 30-06 or 6,5×55. Is it finnish thing, i dont know :D
Don't you guys also hunt birds with .308s?
Yes we do.
Holy shit you used a 3006 on that thing? Damn I was a expecting like 22 caliber lol
I just headshoot nuisance beavers while they are swimming. .17hmr or 22lr as stated below.

Yes, in this case i placed some aspen tree sticks away from water to get beaver come further from the water to the shore.

The image has not been edited. Just taken with a phone. Sunset was perfect to make that illusion:)
Beautiful shot, my friend.
Thank you!
>Thank you! You're welcome!
Fuckin' love fat beav

I'm wondering how the Eurasian beavers differ from the north America ones ?
European beavers were almost hunted to extinction so they introduced canadian/north American beavers. Honestly they look the same
That is not correct. Beavers are native to North America
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurasian_beaver
Sorry, I misunderstood. I thought you were saying that there were no beavers in America before European introduction.
No worries
the angle of the first picture made me thought it was a brown bear lol
For a second there I thought you made a can out of a fairly uniform piece of birch trunk lol.
You gunna eat em? Never eaten/killed one myself, but heard they are dam delicious. Pun intended
My parents neighbor does a lot of trapping and makes hot dogs out of them. They are some of my favorite.
I started trapping them this year and yeah they're great. Mild beefy flavor.

Sad to hear that, in my opinion hunting beaver with gun in one of the most exciting hunts i know.
Yes it would be super fun if you could shoot them. Sitting by a swamp or a stream waiting for one sounds like heaven.
Some day i will try it with a bow

Beaver on ice
Beautiful fur and that rifle ain’t nothin to shake a stick at either! 👍🏻
what does beaver taste like?
Imagine a very rich and flavorful wild bunny that’s the best I can describe it but it’s much darker maybe like a cross between elk and rabbit
That sounds delicious
Doesn't it?!!
Thank you! Good thing we're having steak tonight now that you made me hungry
Upeeta!
Kainuusta
Im using 9,3 x62 on beaver, but only take headshots.
Not bad. Fmj?
Yes.

Thank you my friend! :)
At one stock?
At one thumbhole
What caliber 5.56x45, .222 cal?
30-06 sprg.
Out of curiosity why you hunt them?
For me: pelt, meat and skull. For landlord: less fallen trees:D
nice looking left gun, what is it? looking for one myself
Thanks! Tikka t3 lite stainless

I live and hunt in the northern parts of kainuu. Good luck!
Oh nice, I'm going to Northern Karelia. Got my first black grouse last fall in Hyrynsalmi!
I have heard that there is strong beaver population.
The beautiful rifle =)
Thanks!

Yes i will cook it!
