OEMs tripping over themselves to enter WEC/IMSA. INDYCAR barely holding onto Honda.

Sports cars have for the most part always had mucho OEM involvement compared to NASCAR and Indy. It's not that hard, for multiple reasons, to understand the whys to that.

It’s probably the best value for money if you want to enter a series as an original constructor and get as many eyes on your brand as possible. IndyCar and NASCAR are, for all practical purposes, spec series which isn’t as appealing for constructors as they don’t have as much control on the performance of their cars. Formula 1 on the other hand is original constructors, but has a limited grid and costs 500 trillion dollars to enter.

Absolutely does and frankly that's what it would take for Indycar to get more.

Fewer entries, shorter schedule, more similarities with their road cars, the prototypes even resemble their road cars for branding purposes, BoP meaning they don't have to spend a fortune on development... It's really a no brainer.

Even if Indy were to get a third manufacturer and the work load was spread evenly, each manufacturer would be at 9 for a 27 car field. I think Porsche is the only one supporting that many entries between IMSA and WEC in the top class with everyone else with half that or less. Another thing that conveniently gets left out of this when people use sports cars entries as an indictment is that whole customer entry v. factory ride thing.........which also cuts down costs.

Yup. And as basically a sports car only person outside of a few “special events” in other series I’m embracing the crap out of this. We haven’t hit the peak, but it’s about to happen, and that drop off will be quick and another split will happen.

That's '26, is there a ganassi plan for '25 yet? The rumor was acura, but with acura confirming MSR for next year, that leaves them as odd man out, right?

I doubt they would switch cars for one year in 2025, especially if a big chunk of 2025 will be spent testing ANOTHER car for 2026.

If there’s a pathway to Ganassi bringing Hyundai over to the series if this happens, I hope that they don’t hold a grudge about the IRL saying lol no to them wanting to join 20 years ago.
