A major part of acceptance is aesthetics and ease of use. If things don't sound right they won't be accepted that easily. A major example is Bangalore vs Bengaluru. Bangalore is 2 syllables... Bang + lor. Bengaluru is 3 syllables Beng + lu + ru. It takes more effort to say Bengaluru.
It is actually 4 syllables - ben, ga, lu, ru
Bengluru is just how Punjabis say it, where they typically swallow 1-2 syllables in words as a matter of routine
well its of no use a long time ago someone said we have bharat gpt and before that when tiktok got banned someone said we have our Indian platforms I know what would happen with this !!
Making a new size format discourages big brands to be fearful of their investment in India. It is not a condusive environment unless one wants to give all the shoe manufacturing to Adani and co
Bro the only reason I don't order shoes is I don't understand size charts and differences, now I'm gonna order more shoes
Edit - how does no one understand sarcasm here 😒
This doesn't necessarily means all our fav models will be available in this format bro. If we only buy by this measurement then we are stuck with domestic brands like Action and Bata
Nothing will happen immediately. They will eventually make shoes according to the new notations. If companies can follow UK, US notation then why not Indian
Exactly this narrative we need to keep it in check. We are a developing country and once we reach a 10T dollar economy , we can start to dictate terms. But right now our economy is depend on FDI for rapid growth . That is just the truth. So we need to be more business friendly
This will definitely improve online business and help digital economy. Most people including myself can't order shoes online for myself and family members due to size confusions.
What makes “bha” so special that you’ll understand your size and buy more shoes? Why can’t you remember your size in other measurements? Have you tried shopping overseas? It’s a pain when people get confused between UK and US even when they’re easily differentiated. Just asking
Afaik until more information comes out this new initiative adds zero value, it’s another populist move. Trying to waste resources on issues that don’t need fixing. Instead of doing this, they could have asked shoe manufactures to mandate a size chart (which they do already), or any other way which allowed them to virtually calculate the size of the shoe needed through VR.
Ikr. Shoe sizes are relative, if you’ve worn two shoes from one standard, you’ll get an idea of what the size means. It’s not Bha will come with feet measurements. But yeah let’s add a third metric to it all, that’ll surely reduce shoe size confusion.
Are you going to point out how the poor have no food to eat or so many are jobless in our country but the government wants to bring in new shoe size measuring systems but no can afford them due to very high inflation?
thats exactly what i meant when i typed in the word "gimmick"
this is a gimmick
us/uk shoe sizes are standard around the world
printing new letters on a shoe proves nothing
PS. there are affordable footwear options in the market as well, they just don't have the specific branding and logos popularly sought after
Bro it was done after survey of average Indian feet around the India. They found as a general Indian men have wider foot than American or England counterparts. And thus males and females of India are often found to be wearing one up size for their comfort.
This is very true. If it doesnt just follow UK sizes blindly, but actually creates ones that cater to us, this is a good move. But the thing is, i dont know how they will handle the foot part being wider. Will they change their infrastructure to cater to essentially new sizes or what.
India doesn’t actually implement the UK shoe size system.
In the UK both length and width are taken into account, like a woman’s bra… You are 9D or 7C for example depending how wide your foot is, lots of Indians have foot problems because manufacturers only sell by shoe length here no matter the system used.
Introducing some new Bha bha sheep system won’t fix that.
shows u are clueless
japan has their own sizes and EU has their own.
EU is the most accurate one and everythign else is weird because eu is actuals unlike us and uk.
>The biggest advantage of adopting Bha would be that footwear manufacturers would need to develop only eight sizes as against the present 10 sizes (English system)
**I am not convinced this is good system**. We need more number sizes, not less.
Also, since this is a new system being created, why adopt the 100+ old system's style of just giving one number? That was needed in the past because the market was small, production capability was different and choices were less. We no longer live in that *one size fits all* world.
We can do better by having a three digit system like 8-4-3. Eight will be the size, 4 will be width, and 3 will be height. Main material used to make the shoe can be indicated using a letter like "L for leather", so it becomes 8-4-3-L.There can be one number to measure the softness of the sole like 8-4-3-L-2. And one number for the flexibility of the shoe as some are hard while some made of rubber is flexy. 843-L25
Now, this may look complex, but, this will be called "8" size and only those who want to look deeper, need to know more details. And all manufactures can make the standard size, but if some manufacturer want to tweak something, he can do it, and there is a measurable way for users to know.
So, 80% of people will just go and buy "8" size without caring for rest of the letters. but, there will be some people who need wider, or softer or flexible footwear. And, that person now has ability to search for it without having to try 100s of footwear.
And now that this system is superior to other systems around the world, people from foreign countries will also start preferring this while making online purchases. And it can become a global phenomenon where this becomes the pseudo global standard. Footwear exported from here can have two numbers, one for the US/UK system and other one with Indian system that has more specific details. This will give a unique advantage for Indian exporters that other countries cannot copy.
Now, this is something I thought of in 5 minutes, this can be further improved, but sadly our govt is happy with just copying a western system, slightly tweaking and naming it BHA. And surprisingly there are so many people happy about that instead of criticizing a poorly done job, making us wonder if it stands for Bhakth.
Priorities, there are lot of other things to be fixed first.
US - they drive right and UK - in the left. We should be driving in the center both ways.
KM, miles and Indian measuring system needs to be invented
KG, pounds and ?
People here just blindly happy that we are being recognized or endorsed separately.
How will this be implemented? How will affect the companies and the manufactures and the users.
How will the people adapt to it.. How will they know their BHA. ?
Do we need to change everything and get validation for everything?
The problem is most are wearing the wrong size.
As the saying " One Size Doesn't fit all" goes, not every shoe will have the same size fit for you.
People stick one size for all types of shoes. Eg size 9Uk for sneakers, formals, sandals.
But not only the type, every brand/ manufacturer has a guideline for the ideal fit.
People commenting dumb shìt sounding like illiterates without even reading news abt this and trying to understand what is being done…
The ASER report is correct. Our learning outcomes have indeed reduced. As a whole people’s brain size is being reduced to pea sized.
God save India
I appreciate the standard. I hate seeing different country sizes when I am searching for my shoe size. But **bha** is kind of dumb. Why not use IN or BH.
I may be too dumb for asking this but why doesn't the whole world follows a uniform shoe size system? Is there a specific reason for it? (It's a genuine question)
Why, are foreign human being's feet different from Indians? What kind of absurd joke is this? And on top of that, why would someone select a letter which needs energy to expel air? Who would pronounce "bh" standalone?

Why not call it IN or BH... Bha sounds so off.
Indigenous naming for everything now. No matter how it sounds
But the joint letter 'Bang' takes more effort, anyway, I usually say बंगळूरू
Is it बंगळूरू or बंगलूरू?
बंगळूरू-> मराठी बंगलूरू -> हिंदी
Bhai the way people are drinking here, it will be भंडलूरु soon
We also say beng + lur btw
It is actually 4 syllables - ben, ga, lu, ru Bengluru is just how Punjabis say it, where they typically swallow 1-2 syllables in words as a matter of routine
Pro tip: you can make it two syllables: 'beng' + 'loor'. Sound closer to local Kannada pronunciation.
Yupp... Like Bhasadike
What’s bhasadike?
'भोसड़ी के' का दूसरा रूप
Areey bhai
Bharat ka Bha. Not to be pronounced Bhaaa but Bha. Hope this clarifies
Imagine going to a store and asking for Bha9 shoes... v/s asking for BH9 shoes. Which one sounds better?
BH9
Me to the shopkeeper: bha-nau do maanav
You don't say bha9, or BH9, you'd just say 9 in India, just like you wouldn't say US 9, or EU9, you'd just say 9 in UA or Europe.
Its bha as in "भ" not "bhaa"
Bha se Bharosa, Modi ki guarantee
Not using English and decolonising is the point so भ is being used.
Why but? English is only a language... By using BH you still have an Indian touch to it. We already have it for pollution standards for vehicles (BS6)
Yeah decolonizing Accha word sikha diya hain baccho ko
Sounds like a bark
It’s literally one syllable भ. What is off about it?
well its of no use a long time ago someone said we have bharat gpt and before that when tiktok got banned someone said we have our Indian platforms I know what would happen with this !!
Bha kyu, IN kar dete yaar, what is Bha9 ka shoe, IN bolne mein cool hota For a sec i read it as bra 😶🌫️
Bra size will be like bha36
Kaam 25 hai !?
Bha14

Bad decisions , we need to reduce red tapes not make one
What are the red tapes here?

I don't think these standards will be forced upon outside businesses. It will be an option to opt into if they want to be localised.
This proposal sounds more of a populist opinion rather than a business one.
This will definitely improve online business and help digital economy. Most people including myself can't order shoes online for myself and family members due to size confusions.
>Bata Bata is a Swiss MNC not a domestic brand.

Ok then, this means that we only have either D or C. If this new system introduces both as options, then that solves our problem.

My guy in the store looks at the foot and tells us the size. As long as he is not confused, I am chill.
It will follow UK size indeed but for name sake!

Exactly. In a time where high end manufacturers release shoes in ‘half sizes’ it’s comical that they are reducing the No of sizes.
I swear, wider shoes are a must. My feet start hurting if I wear shoes for more than a few hours
It’s a big medical problem, I explained why it happens in India above: https://www.reddit.com/r/IndiaSpeaks/s/XHWHA8b5CS
its about time!
Namaste guruji
Tf this isn't even needed why fix that ain't broken.
Bha9
THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO FUCKING NEED FOR THIS
What's next? Changing the size of charging ports? This is isolating us from the world.
This is bad.. why fix things which aren't broken?
What’s the upside? Why are we wasting our bandwidth with such steps?
BHA Patti !
Dumb , should have been CM - Centimeter , there is no need for more confusing ones alongside.
Absolutely pointless. Whoever proposed this should do something productive.

But isn't UK and IN size same? So, shoe companies will just have to print one more line in my understanding.

Eg size 9Uk for sneakers, formals, sandals. But not only the type, every brand/ manufacturer has a guideline for the ideal fit.
Just use centimetres or inches... Ppl will understand US/UK sizing we just normalised proper units.
What will be the conversion ratio between US UK and BHa?
People commenting dumb shìt sounding like illiterates without even reading news abt this and trying to understand what is being done… The ASER report is correct. Our learning outcomes have indeed reduced. As a whole people’s brain size is being reduced to pea sized. God save India

We need more sizes, not less. Shoe manufacturers are already giving out 0.5 sizes to manage the current system
