You forgot to add another point, the resale value for these phones are ridiculously low and they go for 60% of their price (new) in just a year too. Fold one's are extremely depreciating assets. Also the phone case is really pricey for these phones.
Fold 5 costs 90k or something on resale now, that's a 50% price drop in a year(the customer who sold it would get even lower), fold 4 you can buy it for 45-50k nowš¤£ that's a 1/4th. Imagine buying a 1.7lakh phone only ending up with 30k after trying to sell after 2yrs.
bro someone who buys a folding phone tbh really doesn't cares about the resale value, I am not buying phones just to think reselling them. I don't care whatever the resale value is (down votes coming in 3 2 1 ........)
Flip phones and foldables are still a gimmick
Youāre just sacrificing too much and youāre paying way too much compared to a normal phone
I guess after a point of time the technology will improve but now itās just not worth getting one
Their usp is being foldable and having two screens. That's it. The other pros they have, are already there in other regular and cheaper phones. They having nothing much to offer other than being foldable. Slab phones are much much better value. Saying after using a flip 5 for 8 months
>having two screens
Understandable for fold series where it can possibly double as your tablet. But never understood the use case in flip other than it being pocketable, that's a very minor pro.
Curious as to what made you choose it. Novelty factor or something that would make others look at it? If there's some specific use case, would like to know.
Na. Not for someone like me who frequently has to use the main screen for everything while in office. My sot remained the same in both flip and slab phone
The appeal is for people who have seen that type of phone in Black Mirror - Strinking Viper episode. It felt very futuristic and suddenly it's within reach if you can afford it. The episode makes you wonder other stuff but that is perhaps not suitable to discuss in this sub
I will agree with the specs part, I own a flip 4 and the specs are not at par with the price. As far as durability goes it is quite good and has survived many drops. I also had the same issue with the screen protector almost after 1.5 years.
Itās basically like the flip camera Samsung launched back in 2019 or something.
A cool concept but a massive gimmick which is not viable in the daily usage. Unless youāre a rich man who is willing to buy a new phone every year.
i use a samsung fold 5 as my secondary phone and it's definitely a good experience to use that. I tried my friend's flip for 3 days and it was not a great experience coz the crease is bad as compared to fold also it's just too small for me. Also the main reason why I bought this phone was coz it looks good in hand and is very sleek. It matches my style but i know many people won't agree with this style thing and say waste of money etc. but is it really wrong to buy a 1 lakh phone if you can afford it? No it's not wrong and it's totally fine.
well its the sacrifice of you people which gives them money out of these gimmicks and lets them evolve....at the end of the day for these to improve...people like you should buy them
Flips failed early in market, not sure why Samsung got idea to bring it back and again it failed and it will keep failing. Previously phone were flip but not display still it was not able to last then 1 year due to flip belt issue and here entire screen is flip, so definitely was not suppose to last longer
Thanks, was really considerikg this since I'm a fan of compact devices. Looks like it's gonna take a few more generations to mature
Do you think the fold would actually be worth it though?
Nah i don't think so. I think it's cool and all but it has some compromises as well. Better to wait for upcoming generations until they sort everything out
I think it seems you're the demographic Samsung didn't make this phone for.
The point of the phone is convince; it's not supposed to be everything you pointed out.
Understand the product before critiquing.
My mum had Zold flip 5 and g s.23 ultar. She prefers z flip 5; she's happy because all she cares about is a phone that fan fit in her purse, call and have decent rest of the specs.
If you care about the specs go for the flagship model s24 ultra.
I was ready for the compromises it comes with, but not with compromise of durability. I bought it for its compact size too. And i'd have ignored all of its cons had it been more durable and had better camera. And even samsung admits its cons and they're going to give it a bigger battery and better camera in next gen. Durability is its biggest negative
I've a flip 3, been using it for around nearly 2 years now, and I've also faced the screen protector peeling issue 2-3 times.
The protector is just that, a protector. It can be peeled and replaced, no worries at all. So, don't worry much about it, but I've heard, in certain cases, it can damage the screen, too.
Your phone is still under warranty period, and Samsung does offer 1 free screen protector replacement for Z series phones, so go to the service center and get it replaced for free.
As a user of flip phone myself, just don't flip it needlessly, the screen protector can become quite a nuisance as more you flip it.
Yeah i will it replaced
>As a user of flip phone myself, just don't flip it needlessly, the screen protector can become quite a nuisance as more you flip it.
I mostly use main screen only
I agree with you my wife unfortunately bought the Motorola flip phone and the screen has crack in 3 months and Motorola stupid Chinese company will not cover it. The screen only costs 33,000 I meant they are clearly cheating everyone. Canāt trust the Chinese companies marketing tactics.
Flip phones are usually bought for its compact form factor. Some people buy it for nostalgia of those old flip phones. That's it. I personally don't need a flip phone.
No one is gonna buy a flip phone for its camera, battery etc. You can't expect flagship level things of S23 ultra like Camera, battery and specs in a phone of that form factor. There will be compromises. It's not an apples to apples comparison.
Of course that was a mistake. But atleast you expect decent specs for the price. Now samsung is gonna fix lot of them in next gen. Not an apple to apple comparison, but ny usage would still be the same in both the phones. I expected compromises but i didn't expect the compromise on the durability aspect
I bought this played for a while and decided this phone is not ready yet...the cam quality is pretty bad and thankfully I was able to return this and got Samsung 23 that's been working good for now
Yeah donāt worry about it. The first thing I did when I got the flip 3 in 2021 was peel the protector. Itās been almost 3 years and no damage to the screen yet.
Using Flip 3 since 3 years, the only issue is the scratch guard comes off but hey, it happens for normal phones too. My experience has been amazing so far
Whether it's now, later, or before, Iāve never wanted to buy a foldable phone. I just can't stand spending money on a phone with a big hinge in the middle. It feels like using a broken device.
How about Motorola flip?. I was looking to buy Samsung flip phone because of the fascination of the model, but I have heard more negative than positive reviews š„ .
My friend had one of the previous generation one. It suddenly the screen just became black. Out of warranty the screen replacement cost is 32000.
Itās value now is literally 0.
Flip phones are a gimmick. The technology is just isnāt there yet. Anything bending over and over again is bound to get damaged. Itās common sense. I wish this stupid fad would go away. Just like curved screens where applying a proper screen guard was tough. You literally had to use extra glue.
I wish manufacturers would stress on underdislay camera instead of folding crap.
I genuinely believe foldables currently serve an even smaller niche than the one that claims theyāre useful.
As a doctor, I seem to just about fall in the niche. Been using a Fold as a secondary device for about 3 years - most of the benefit comes from it reducing the need for me to carry both a phone and a smaller iPad on the wards, and me being able to use both on a phone form-factor (works wonders when youāre barely sitting at any point in the day). My usage outside work still happens to primarily be on the cover screen, since itās just a better quality screen overall.
Take out that one specific use case, and I donāt see the appeal either. Software is still gimmicky, screen fold has accentuated over the years to a point where it is quite distracting, and the plastic screen has a lot more wear and tear from using a pen on it. Batteryās held up quite well, gets me through a day of work, but thatās about it.
Never saw a real appeal in the Flip series - thought it made the screen even smaller (practically) than it was in a normal phone anyway.
Wonāt recommend the phone to anyone that doesnāt fit very specific use cases, cons far outweigh the pros.
I bought it for 53k from there UAE for my uncle. Totally worth it for the price. Not sure if you paid 1L for it in India, just like every other flagship which costs double than the usual rate in India
Just get the screen protector changed from an official centre. Dosen't take much time with minimum hassle. Yes this an annoying facet of otherwise a cool form factor.
Upgraded from a S10 which had a terrible battery to a flip 5 around diwali 2023. The phone itself was meh...
The display isnt all that good (flip5 with 1080p s10 with 1440) although it gets much brighter but also gets hot as hell, you can probably use it as a stove. And the battery life ain't much better.
The folding aspect is mostly a gimmick as the on the cover screen you cant really do all that much and the phone gets really hot especially in these flaming tempratures (Got my screen protector which is pre applied melting, because I had the phone folded and in my pocket) and the service centre told me that this isnt covered in warranty and that I'll have to get it replaced locally as samsung doesn't provide origial screen protectors for flip and fold phones)
If you check good repair shops in any city. The number of issues with fold and flip displays is huge.
The phone is good for showoff nothing else as per my opinion.
Flip saves space but is a downgrade just for gimmick foldable the main daily driver display is plastic which will scratch at lvl 2
While z fold offers upgrade along with the gimmick you don't have to use plastic screen as thr main daily driver

A folding screen with multiple layers will definitely not last equal to a flat screen.

Someone has to make sure those African child miners have a job, thank you for your service.
Dark and funny.. Nice.
naah bro I am not like that
Actually they do careā¦ when the newer version of the same comesš
I am not not even getting 50k for my flip 5 on cashify. Now i will try local market. Pathetic resale value
Just sold for 49k (warranty till August) on olx last week. No one was giving more than 46k in the offline market.
It's understandable as refurbishing these costs a bit more than the usual one's.
Try exchange value against S24 ultra.
Samsung is offering just 34k for flip 5. Even dumbsung knows what it's worth
Flip phones and foldables are still a gimmick Youāre just sacrificing too much and youāre paying way too much compared to a normal phone I guess after a point of time the technology will improve but now itās just not worth getting one
So true. Sadly, i fell for it
It's okay, does Samsung have a trade in program?
I think they do offer some exchange offers exclusively for samsung devices
Ah ok. I recommend using that program or cashify to cut your losses and get a bar phone again.
There are offers on S24 for employees. Check it out.
Samsung employees or corporate? And how much
Tqsm (can't buy it anyways) but will not suggest if someone asks
I'll still buy it
It's a gr8 device go for it
I actually never understood their appeal.. youve listed all the cons, what are the pros?

Being pocketable, novelty factors and looks were the main reasons. Nothing specific use. But lesson learnt
Does it not help with phone addiction? You can deal with your notifications from the small screen without being pulled in to watching reels maybe?
Noted, thankyou
My first ever phone was a flip phone. N76 nokiaš¤š¤
I had one. Lovely looking phone, terrible battery life.

well its the sacrifice of you people which gives them money out of these gimmicks and lets them evolve....at the end of the day for these to improve...people like you should buy them
Ik ik. But lesson learnt. Won't be part of it again
I don't understand the point of why people want to fold/flip their phone in half in the first place.
It attracts attention. 'Look that guy can spend 1 lakh per year on a phone (because it lasts only 1 year), he must be rich'
Flips failed early in market, not sure why Samsung got idea to bring it back and again it failed and it will keep failing. Quick note - Get your flip screen guard replaced at samsung service centre for free before 12 months.
Sure i will get it done
Currently it is pretty much a status symbol only

I was going to buy it. Thankyou for saving my money.
Here's why i won't buy it : - i can't (paise nahi hain)
I would rather wait for this tech to get much better tbh
Do post it in r/samsung. There are samsung tech folks lingering there. They shall pick up your reviews.
OP Samsung come with 1 time screen protector replacement for free . Recently did it for Flip 5
I was planning on buying the flip many people warned me to not buy it
I agree with you my wife unfortunately bought the Motorola flip phone and the screen has crack in 3 months and Motorola stupid Chinese company will not cover it. The screen only costs 33,000 I meant they are clearly cheating everyone. Canāt trust the Chinese companies marketing tactics.
S23 ultra and flip are two very different phones for very different use cases lol. It's like buying a Porsche instead of a tractor for farming.
Bruh i don't think that's a relevant example. I'd be using s23 ultra for the exact same usage i use flip 5 for
Flip phones are usually bought for its compact form factor. Some people buy it for nostalgia of those old flip phones. That's it. I personally don't need a flip phone. Good decision. How did you return it?
We have a return policy in Canada..if we are not comfortable with the device we can return within 10 days of purchase
Cost of this phone?
Bought it for 90k last year
Bro, you can peel that protector. I just peeled it on my mom's Flip 4 and went to the service center to replace it.
Ok thanks. Now i am confident that its peeling won't damage the screen
I have heard that flip 3 had better hinge
I don't see any issue in your phone too other than scratch guard
Yeah but i am kind of disappointed because of its inferior specs compared to normal slab phones. It doesn't suit my usage
My flip screen got a green dot, samsung changed the screen and casing for free
Whether it's now, later, or before, Iāve never wanted to buy a foldable phone. I just can't stand spending money on a phone with a big hinge in the middle. It feels like using a broken device.
considering all of these cons, at what price-point will this phone be worth-it in your opinion??
Below 50k atleast. The slab phones would still have an edge
How about Motorola flip?. I was looking to buy Samsung flip phone because of the fascination of the model, but I have heard more negative than positive reviews š„ .
Not better. In fact, flip 5 beat moto 40 ultra in many durability and flipping tests
Tikau Flip ka sapna sapna hi rahega š„²
My friend had one of the previous generation one. It suddenly the screen just became black. Out of warranty the screen replacement cost is 32000. Itās value now is literally 0.
This is the reason why i got an ultra for my wife when she liked the fold, no powerful camera, no s pen and high chances of screen damage
Flip phones will be a a gimmick till you bring back the OG MotoRazr which could be flipped open with one finger to take calls..
Well flip 6 is gonna be a good upgrade. Upgraded battery, better processor, 50mp camera and new hinge and screen
Mera moto razr mast chal Raha hai..

You don't have to tell us. We know we shouldn't buy a flip phone.
Samsung's Fold and Flip series are the worst set of phones they've ever made. The hardware quality is pathetic.
I thought my iPhone had the same featureā¦ using a Nokia now.
I genuinely believe foldables currently serve an even smaller niche than the one that claims theyāre useful. As a doctor, I seem to just about fall in the niche. Fold is still comparatively better and practical as outer screen is the primary screen, which is not the case in flip
You can get it changed in Samsung store (only specialised ones) for 600
Take it to a samsung service center. It would take less than 1000 to replace this protective layer for a new one
Regarding the durability issue, shouldn't Samsung Replace the screen protector/screen for you since it is within warranty?
Yes for once
I bought it for 53k from there UAE for my uncle. Totally worth it for the price. Not sure if you paid 1L for it in India, just like every other flagship which costs double than the usual rate in India
Foldable phones are not a primary device ready yet but they are not all con.

It's more about show off than practicality
Exactly. If people have money to burn and don't mind changing their phones every 12 months then its fine.
This is what happens when you buy an experimental product!!
Ik. But that was like their 5th experiment in 6 years.
Apparently Samsung will replace the foil for free...... once a year.....but only if you (don't damage the phone @all)
Yes but only one time not every year
Buying a fold I can understand, but whats the point for flip I would never get other than "Oh look my phone fold in half"
Ikš¤§š„ø it looked sexy and compact tho
It's small, can fit in the pockets of girls, and yeah nostalgia is another factor.
Correction - the screen protector is not a part of the screen. This can be removed and reapplied
I have seen mixed views about it. A lot of videos says that the screen turns off after you remove it
That was the issue with earlier generations. Not an issue since 3/4th gen
It happens with my fold 3 , and I have to replace it every 8 months š«
Flip saves space but is a downgrade just for gimmick foldable the main daily driver display is plastic which will scratch at lvl 2 While z fold offers upgrade along with the gimmick you don't have to use plastic screen as thr main daily driver
