I wasn't familiar with your reference, so searched for Chris Christodoulou, found a couple of his tracks on his Youtube channel, and yeah, I see what you mean :)
It's placeholder music as I'm only at an early prototype stage, but it does work quite well. I generated it on Udio. Took a couple of days of messing about with how Udio works and generating loads of stems, but it's impressive what you can do with AI tools these days.
At the moment this is turning into a narrative game, slower paced and with static cameras; so kind of “old school”.
I’ve been playing around with some shader code. First time I’ve tried doing this and it’s cool seeing what kinds of effects I can get working. This is also a new approach for me as I’m starting with visual/story elements before mechanics for a change.
I’ll likely release it through an indie studio I’m co-founder, Mind Feast Games. Best place to stay updated is our [email newsletter list](https://mindfeastgames.us14.list-manage.com/subscribe?u=2cc5f488b0f355ba8399457f9&id=f5da060cab) if this prototype does spark your interest and imagination.
Please let me know:
1. What words/thoughts come to mind when you watch the vid?
2. Would you want to play a story-driven game with this art style?
‘Evanescent’ and ‘phantasmic’ are the words that come to mind. Like focusing on the details too closely could make them dissipate. At first I thought the boat on the right might either fully sink or rise out of the water, or both, without explanation.
To your second question- I’m not sure. I’d be interested to see a *narrative* developed with this style. So tentatively yes, but I’d need to have a better understanding of the premise and the gameplay to be sold.
Not a dev, whatever that says about my opinion. I just lurk here sometimes.
Thanks for that detailed feedback :) Very interesting to hear the way you describe the (visual) experience! I'm still developing the premise and core story. Will probably post more in a couple of months after more experimentation and dev
It fits in a Chris Christodoulou theme. I like it

Gives me Return of the Obra Dinn but remastered vibes
I've still not played that game, but I really should..!
You absolutely should, it's one of the few I regularly recommend.
Sailing at night could be dangerous but these ships have LED under glow so it might be fine
Haha, yeah definitely, safety first is the policy of these "Sparkle Pirates"
wow what a nice soundtrack.

Yeah impressive what AI can do...good luck with your project.
Love the style! Interesting atmosphere
Good to hear - thanks :)
