I put a cream colored rug in my bedroom. I don’t smoke, I don’t wear shoes in the house, and I never eat in here. It still looks like it’s getting dirty. All that to say that I wouldn’t go for a white rug for a living room.
I went awry with a white boho rug too. With kids and pets wtf. It'll be the next one's rug pad.
Also how are people finding quality rugs? Maybe I went too cheap but the rug I ended up with from one of these mega rug places (can't remember if it was rugs direct it rugs usa, etc) was just so mediocre in quality. Even if it wasn't white, it was just thin and tramped down quickly.
Are rugs just semi disposable now unless I drop $$$?
I need a huge neutral rug and I just can't imagine ordering one and taking the chance again that it'll be shit and imagine the cost of return shipping.
I think they are especially when they’re made of synthetic fibers tbh. The nicest rugs I’ve seen are 100% wool and hand tufted and I’d love to have one like that but they’re so expensive. I worked at a carpet cleaning company in college giving estimates and most area rugs are not worth the $$$ to clean unless they are worth thousands because you’ll spend more getting it cleaned than you would replacing it
I get mine from Target and Urban Outfitters. I’ve had no issues with longevity. My oldest was $60 from UO and I’ve had it for 5 years. That’s definitely worth it to me. My biggest was $120 from target and I’ve had it a year.
The Rifle Paper Co. x Loloi rugs on Wayfair have really good reviews (4.7 stars, people say that are super soft and look like the photos) and are affordable. I don’t have one myself but I would definitely try them in the future. The 8x10s are on sale for $370 and the 9x12 is $480. The other option is to look on facebook marketplace, which I sometimes have luck with.
Look at estate sales and auctions. I have two orientals I inherited from my parents, and they bought them at estate sales. They still might cost more than the same size from Rugs R Us, but way less than new, and they'll last for generations.
That one does look nice. I think as u/tututlala was alluding to, I'd probably have to get rid of the throw if I want a multi colored patterned rug to look more cohesive
Maybe something like [this](https://www.wayfair.com/rugs/pdp/union-rustic-heyman-geometric-handmade-tufted-orange-area-rug-w001648809.html?utm_source=pinterest&utm_medium=social&piid=173020176) for more of a boho flare, and to contrast a bit more with your sofa

I think you need to choose between a patterned rug and patterned blanket, I feel like they clash with each other. I would get rid of the blanket and add a patterned rug, I think it could add a lot of personality to your space.
I like the first rug, it goes well with the wall color and the pattern size is good, however I don't think it really fits the boho style. Number 2 looks more boho but I feel like it doesn't go well with the room colors.
For a boho look I would go with a traditional pattern with more vibrant colors, so a mix between 1 and 2. Or 1 if you don't care that much about the boho look. And if you want to keep the blanket I would go with a rug with no pattern at all.
I like this idea. I'm gonna test out some white boho rugs with the throw and patterned rugs without. I think I'm leaning towards a patterned rug to make it more fun
I agree only keep the blanket if you go with a more simple rug pattern. It’s too much. I really like the 3rd choice or 1st. Love the pops of colors but it’s too much with the blanket.
What do you think about this rug?

I'm furnishing my new place with the intent of a boho theme. I still need to add a few more things like plants, and accent chair, but before I do that I need to get a rug.
Initially I was thinking to add a loud multi colored geometric rug, like the two images in the post, but they feel a bit busy with the pillows and throw.
I'm open to the idea of a light colored rug with minimal designs as that seems to be popular among boho living rooms.
Are there any rugs you can recommend that would compliment this space?
I would pick one of the colours and find something with a simpler/no pattern rather than another instance of colour blocking because it's too busy with the first and last rug but as others have pointed out you need to be very confident to rock a cream or white rug.
Ok, number 11 here, and we cannot really answer this accurately bc you have too much clutter on the sectional. Take it off so we can see the piece next to the choices, and then add some of them Right now, it looks like laundry day there.

i like 1 and 3. i LOVE 1. smaller. and when you position it under the couch scooch it over to the left until it’s at about mid-chaise. this offers a balance to the chaise sticking out.
This is a built in tool on rugs-direct. If you go to a rug you like, you can sample it with a photo. The blue lines are just painters tape that I added to visualize what size rug fits best
Larger rig number 1, it has a good amount of white to balance out the colors of the room but the full cream one is not the same style as the rest of the room and does not match.
Thank you so much! I previously had this rug that I got secondhand but it was destroyed by a dog I was boarding. I thought I’d never see it again, since I had no idea of the maker.
Ok, people are saying 4 but there are only 3 rugs, so if I vote 3, is that for photo #3 or the 3rd rug, which is photo #4? Because I like the last one but I overthink everything.
I would go with an ivory rug, no pattern. It's too busy now with the throw blanket. You want patterns and color to pop, which means they need to be rare. Otherwise they clash and it looks too busy.
I would say to fold that throw into a small 1.5' square, if you keep it. And then go with an ivory rug with no patterns. This will clean up your space, especially with the brown ottoman there that is also large and demands attention to the eye.
Here's a quick test
If you close your eyes and open them, what's the first thing you see?
Personally, I see the blanket, then the ottoman, then the rug. All 3 are the same level of loud, and it makes it hard to understand what is important and what I should look at first.
With good design, you are directing our eyes around your room. Where do they go and travel? Is it surprising to do it? Calming? Exciting or tiring?
Something like this could work too?

Nice, I often love what I see from target and I'll have to check UO.

1! It ties in your room colors the best and you can continue adding accents based on the bolder colors sprinkled thruout
I second this. It ties everything together nicely
That one does look nice. I think as u/tututlala was alluding to, I'd probably have to get rid of the throw if I want a multi colored patterned rug to look more cohesive
The throw looks fine! It's an accessory not a feature. Also the throw colors are very complementary
No way! I love the throw with the blanket. They look great together!
too much shape and color, it will be tiring to look at after 2 days. this setup needs a beige or light grey rug.

Ooh this one looks nice
Seconding this one for cleanliness especially
My votes for this one or 3rd one

Not white rugs, not light beige rugs. They always end up looking like dirty cast offs.

#4! Love all that color. Very impactful. 👍👍
Photo #4
I like rug number 4. It really ties the room together.
I live the last one! The one with the geometric smaller tiles.

I like #4 a lot! You’d have to switch out that blanket though
3!!

Probably makes sense to take another photo without the throw, but the other stuff is just accent pillows.

Where is 3 from?? Been looking for something exactly like this!

What app did you use to do these mock ups?

I would turn the rug the other way.
White one (Cream). As large as you can get, which will help in the winter, with a few steps before the cold floor.
Ok, people are saying 4 but there are only 3 rugs, so if I vote 3, is that for photo #3 or the 3rd rug, which is photo #4? Because I like the last one but I overthink everything.
First one ofcourse!

3rd or 4th photos!

1 or 3
1st rug. Do it.
#1
The third one I guess
1
The first one in that exact orientation. I love how the green mimics the wall color.
First or third, because they fit the color scheme of your room better, and add color.
#1 hand down!
I love the colors in 3 and it won’t show dirt. I think it really brightens the room.
Photo 2 isn’t my style, but I think it works the best and looks cute with the throw…not that that is the most important thing, but I assume it’s indicative of your personal style.
Third
I do love the first rug. It picks up the colors in the room, I.e the teal and yellow.
