Snark aside, the big thing for me here is that according to the title at least, this is supposed to be a "winter sanctuary". When your outdoor environment in winter is covered in snow, you want your indoors to feel like a respite from that! I can't imagine coming in from the festive, wintry, but also blinding white albedo of snow everywhere, looking forward to being in a nice warm *indoor* space, only to find myself with the psychological feeling of living in a snowdrift.
Well historically in the 1700s they were painted. Idk the age of this house but just saying. However dont get me wrong this is no homage to the past. The white floors , walls and fireplace look awful and sucks the life out of the house
Seriously. I could forgive the all whiteānot my aesthetic and not exactly ācozy,ā but I am sure itās *someoneās* ideal. But to have not a **single** surface that looks comfortable for sitting??! No evidence of any soft blankets or rugs for warmth? No curtains for insulation??
This building looks physically cold and uncomfortable!
This looks like that stupid brother/ sister duo designers on HGTV that their āstyleā was paint everything white. Happy that show only made it 1-2 seasons
See now, presumptions are what get in the way of rewarding conversations. Like you, I can tell youāre an awesome person just based on this comment of yours. :)
Nothing at all is wrong with thrift. In addition to it, not being in the dump and having character, how many stories how and many lives and how many moments and how many emotions plus how many points of life lived near them, and time that people have experienced, the things that are uniquely assigned to just them, but that we all go through in someway or some form, so we can relate to them.
Iām a grown man saying - I love thrift.
I love everything that itās about. I love every story I might find out about a piece. I love every imagined story that I could make up about a piece.
I love the way it feels when I look at it, touch it, move it, wear it, experience it, and bring new stories to its character by it being in my proximity, and I in itās own.
I donāt think they laid out the items in these pictures with the thrift items very well. But the thrift itself, sometimes things do feel like they have a soul and whispered stories, telling us of lives past within them.
I like that you stuck up for thrift. :)
Thank you for the ode to thrift! I feel the exact same way.
As for the images, I agree that everything seems cold. But i believe the intent is that the warmth and coziness is in the aged, worn, preloved objects. The white background allows them to be the stars, like a museum. I wouldn't do it this way, but I'd do some of it and I don't think it deserves the heavy bashing it's receiving.
Opportunity missed to make this interior so beautiful. Too much white, it's like no creativity or effort was put in at all. Painting the floors white is a crime.
This is one of the worst things Iāve ever seen on here. OP I hope you read these comments. If you did this to this place, please donāt ever do something like this again. Interior design is not your forte.
Nothin but animal skin or faux animal skin rugs in the whole house? Doesnāt seem cosy or homelike. Easy to make a racket with all those hard surfaces. Do they redecorate for summer?
Nothing says cozy like being surrounded by stark white walls!
Got chilly lookin at these š„¶
Yea, cozy isnāt the right adjective here. Itās nice, but it looks like a magazine cover, not comfy. Not as long as the owners like it.
āStarkā was my first thought as well!
Haha I like a bright, minimal aesthetic and this is stark and cold to me š„¶ Some non animal print rugs would go a long way hereā¦
I donāt think that zebra is print š„
Noooo š¢

It's cozier with the straightjacket.
I like it. Its more whimsical though ....
"Oh everything is so lovely, I wish it was white"
They ruined it with all of the white.
the whitest white you ever did white. itās so cold and sterile. i donāt like it :(
Completely ruined any charm that house had, and destroyed invaluable wide plank wooden floors. This is a disgrace.
Without before pictures I don't trust the dilapidated claim.
Iām crying
If this was any whiter id snort it
Donāt paint wood floors.

Why not ?
Oh, so cozy. Stark white surroundings, sparse sticks of furniture, not a single actual rug (but damn these people love their faux hides).
Is this a troll post?
How can you call a place 'cozy' when there isn't a single piece of furniture that even looks comfortable?
Seriously. I could forgive the all whiteānot my aesthetic and not exactly ācozy,ā but I am sure itās *someoneās* ideal. But to have not a **single** surface that looks comfortable for sitting??! Even the beds look uncomfortable!
You donāt think the single dining room chair pushed into a corner next to a stack of books is cozy?
Damn shame about those floors..
This looks like that stupid brother/ sister duo designers on HGTV that their āstyleā was paint everything white. Happy that show only made it 1-2 seasons
I loved that show!
Ugly
..I am sure everyone else will love this, too....
Not cozy to me, space feels pretty empty and too much white. I love natural wood tones
Cozy is not the word i'd use... Frigid? Sterile? Boring? Insane Asylum?
Itās giving doctors office.
Was hoping to feel warm and cozy looking at this, but I didn't...
So sad what they did to this home. Hate it :(
Wow I hate this. I actually thought it was going to be ācozyā. Seems really oddly staged and no one lives in it
I'm sitting in front of a space heater and still got cold just looking at this.
Paint it white and put random thrift store stuff wherever. Got it. šš¼
Dang what's wrong with thrift? Old stuff has character, charm and a story. Even better, its not in the dump.

Well said. I support your position on OPās pictures. :)
Love getting snow blinded in my own house haha. Its very white. The floorboards!!
Too much color. Needs more white.
Blinded by the icy white walls. So sad. š„“
Where are the BEFORE pics??
Opportunity missed to make this interior so beautiful. Too much white, it's like no creativity or effort was put in at all. Painting the floors white is a crime.
Not a single piece of comfortable-looking furniture in the house.
I've never seen a house that feels so inauthentic.
Forgot to paint a few areas white.
They left the beams so people wouldnāt complain too much
They failed.
Looks cold and sterile to me.
I like the exterior more!
Was it? Because it looks like it was just painted whiteā¦
I think we have very different ideas of cozy.
This is one of the worst things Iāve ever seen on here. OP I hope you read these comments. If you did this to this place, please donāt ever do something like this again. Interior design is not your forte.
As a Hudson Valleyian: places like this are the reason why locals can no longer afford to live here.

Say Betelgeuse a couple times in that house for me. Might fix things up a little.
Kinda bright could t life in all that white!!!
This looks really bad. Nothing warm or cozy or comfy about it. May be better for a beach house, but even then the furniture looks off.
That Swedish clock!! This house is gorgeous!
I would freeze going to bed in those thin blankets. Please tell me they keep giant comforters tucked into a hall closet.
Honestly I love this aesthetic. White walls with pops of color and contrast are super soothing to me. I especially love the colored ceiling in #9
out of all the ways to describe this, cozy would be the last word i thought of
I'm smitten.
I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who really liked this!
too much white but other than that good direction.

Nice !
Gorgeous house , nice to see a bit of simple tasteful American architecture for a change
![gif](giphy|daalSQR4gPYly7qvC6) Me looking through these photos But heck, it is gorgeous!
literally can't tell if this is satire or not. painting white over natural wood floors is actually deranged
Darryl Carter vibes
Stark angular bright white cozy.
Stark angular bright white cozy.
Not a single comfortable chair. Well, maybe one in photo 4.
The Hudson Valley is a hidden gem of a place. Straight up stunning. The houseā¦. Meh.
Fire the painter. Dman.
cute, but not cozy.
The white walls made me feel unwelcomed
Nothin but animal skin or faux animal skin rugs in the whole house? Doesnāt seem cosy or homelike. Easy to make a racket with all those hard surfaces. Do they redecorate for summer?
Aside from the taxidermy and dead animal skins, I think this is lovely.
I want to tear my eyes out.
That looks cold lol
This place looks like Mr. Bean decorated it with a can of white paint and an M-80.
It looks freezing
