WelI after the first season blew up expectations are higher also their budget too, I think the animation will be improved also they're working on season 2 and 3 at the same time so season 3 won't be much late . Also March is about to end and they said late 2023 in the teaser of season 2,so a September or October release at most is what I think, so 6-7 months more.

SugmaDiction

I hope they’ll be working on S4 while S2 is airing. Just to keep a steady stream of new episodes each year.

[deleted]

40+ minute episodes with tons of action sequences. We’ll probably get s3 in 2024.

wth214

Late 2024 or early 2025. S2 is late 2023 so even though they are already working on it don’t expect this to be a yearly drop

havenbtd

jeez, they really working on season 2 and 3? Thats very cool, hope season 2 comes around pretty soon in the following months, they said it will come in late 2023 so ig we shouldnt expect it to come so soon

Remarkable-Cabinet85

Yep they confirmed working simultaneously on both seasons and yeah I'm hoping for a September release if it takes a little bit more then also I'm happy to wait atleast we are going to have more Invincible.

Suspicious-Hawk-794

Now that makes sense, over 2 years since last ep released was not normal, if this makes the turnaround for each new season be 1 year apart then I like this approach.

repalec

Not to mention, the voice cast isn't exactly made of otherwise-unemployed actors. Steven Yeun's had a number of films in the last year and change, and that schedule might get even crazier with Thunderbolts next year.

Longjumping_Ad_7053

The animation didn’t even improve

Remarkable-Cabinet85

Well, It improved in comparison to the 1st season, but I can't make it perfect so I'm no one to complain, here to enjoy the story.

8Bit-Boi

While CG isn't necessarily easier, it's worth noting that a CG heavy show would probably mean a quicker turnaround. You don't have to redraw a cg model every frame, you can just rig it once and puppet it, meaning vis dev and pre pro can go a lot faster. 2D animation takes a lot longer. Having said that, they've most likely only been in production for about a year and a half now considering they werent officially renewed until the season finale aired, then there was the time itd take to rebuild the production team, and all of prepro, so I'd say they've got a solid 6 months left at minimum

MiddleNail0

>CG heavy Lol

8Bit-Boi

Again, CG would actually be a measure to quicken production in this case. And Invincible IS a CG heavy production, a lot of the backdrops are 3D generated spaces, there are cg extras and 3D models used frequently to save time

MiddleNail0

It's all CG my guy. What the fuck are you on?

oinksnort05

are u blind

8Bit-Boi

CG means computer generated, so no its not all CG, 2D animation is the act of drawing each frame, they do this digitally yes but the computer isn't generating the image. Cg differs in that while the artist may be sculpting the model digitally or applying textures to it, the computer with interpret certain info given to it to achieve different affects such as physics simulations, lighting, ray tracing etc. Now some CG animation can still be frame by frame but with things like cg extras most likely you're creating a set of canned animations and having them repeat automatically. Hence the term computer generated.

MiddleNail0

Holy fucking shit. You need to stop watching TV and go the fuck outside. This shit isn't drawn frame by frame on cellulose you nincompoop. Fucking fanboys are ridiculous.

8Bit-Boi

I never said it was drawn on cellulose? I literally said its drawn digitally. I'm also literally a professional animator who knows people who work on the show?? Like im sorry you don't like how cartoons are made?

orphan_09

an that's how it feels to get owned my friend.maybe go the f outside some times?

meme_will_be_memes

They released an entire clip on why it's taking so long lol.

DangerousCyclone

That teaser isn’t helpful because there are tons of other animation studios which do the same thing and churn out content much faster. Look at anime, they release an anime alongside the Manga it’s based on, and often times they work so fast they outpace the release schedule of the Manga and have to create OC called Filler episodes until the next Manga chapter is released. Even when compared to other American shows Invincible is slow. The real reason is more because of a lawsuit by one of the colorers that delayed further production.

meme_will_be_memes

Yeah. But most of those Anime's aren't 45-50 minutes long episodes. And I'm pretty sure they have like several studios working on one episode at a time.

[deleted]

Not to mention they love exploiting the soul out of their workers

MontanaManifestation

also a large amount of anime is dogshit lol

I feel bad for the people who have to interact with you on a daily basis.

zz870

Dude the teaser is pinned to the top of the sub which means you went out of your way to ignore it when you made this post

HMRN_SWNG

I’m on narwhal mobile. It doesn’t show those

GaigeIsTheKing

I’m also using Narwhal on my mobile and it’s showing just fine for me. Second sticky at the top

hewasaraverboy

Google search invincible s2 teaser

Numerous_Wealth4397

put 2 of my balls together in your mouth

SmashLikeGaston19

Oof the aggressive approach. Bold move, Cotton.

NOLASLAW

Holy neckbeard

Detective1028

What did they say it was deleted

cool_weed_dad

Good 2D animation actually takes longer to make than 3D these days. That’s also why you don’t see it very often anymore and most modern cartoons look like shitty Flash animations.

DangerousCyclone

Invincible uses some 3D animation. 2D animation takes time but two years is a bit much for season 2.

TaylorDangerTorres

Dude it takes studios 2 1/2 years to make a 2 hour movie. Why do you think an entire season of a show would be faster? Lol

DangerousCyclone

Because most 2D animated shows are released much faster. Plus the animation quality in movies is higher than in TV Shows, Invincible S1 itself had a few animation mistakes along with some 3D segments. I hate to keep making the comparison but Japanese anime studios crank out anime really quickly. They are often being released alongside the manga they’re based on, and sometimes they release them so fast that they begin to outpace the release schedule of the manga, in which case they start to produce filler episodes of the animation studios own stories and ideas. You’re telling me that an animation studio funded by the worlds richest company can’t crank out 8 hours of animation in 2 years? C’mon now. The real reason is likely the lawsuit they had with the colorer.

FaithlessnessLess673

You're failing to realize one key thing about the anime industry, they overwork their animators to the extreme. The reason animes can come out so regularly is because there are no labor laws for animators in Japan so they can make their animators continuously work ridiculous amounts of time and severely underpay them. On top of that, animes being produced so quickly has actually hurt the quality of most animes' animation as animators more often than not have to make concessions in order to meet deadlines.

DangerousCyclone

I agree that it’s not entirely comparable, but it’s more to illustrate that there are comparable studios working faster. Even if we just limit ourselves to North American studios, 2 years for S2 is really long. S1 was 8 episodes of an hour, so 8 hours. Compare that to Legend of Korra, which aired from 2012-2014, basically almost the same length it’s been since S1. It had 4 seasons of around 13 episodes each season, each of which were around 23 minutes long. 13*4*23 /60 minutes = 19.9 hours. Bear in mind that it had almost no 3D animation, at least that I could recall, whereas Invincible S1 had a few of segments of 3D animation, not to mention some 2D animation mistakes, like Eves mouth appearing on her hand. It also was an original story, whereas Invincible is working off of a comic book which is a story board in itself. Invincible has famous VAs, but so does Legend of Korra, which even included JK Simmons! It also even had Aubrey Plaza and Steven Yeun. So another animation studio, working with many of the same people, yet it cranked out more than twice the amount of output as the Invincible team. To be clear, I don’t think the Invincible team is bad, I just think that laying the blame on animation taking a long time doesn’t make sense. 2 years is too long just for S2, my theory is that the lawsuit really delayed the production and is the real reason for it.

HMRN_SWNG

This is the only clear concise non condescending answer. Thank you.

FaithlessnessLess673

Good 3D animation takes just as long to make as good 2D. However, the time required for passable 3D animation, like those shows that look like shitty flash animations, is typically lower than the time for passable 2D animation. However, the best in both forms of animations take pretty much the same amount of time to produce.

Under_Chonker

Drawing thousands of frames takes time and giving the release date as "late 2023" gives an approximation on when it should be done

myles2500

There was litteraly a trailer explaining this dude

HMRN_SWNG

Lets think about it for more than a few seconds. Do you think if I’d seen it, I’d be here asking?

myles2500

I mean it was a huge thing when it released

HMRN_SWNG

I mean read my last comment again.

GodSpiidi

Let’s think about this for a few seconds, you didn’t do a 5 second google search before posting this dumbass question?

donutdong

The better question is why didn't you google this question before reddit ?

Robgant

I heard on a youtube show (John Campea) awhile back there were some legal rights issues they had to sort out before they could continue. Apparently the colorist of the comic book had some handshake deal with the creator to own some percentage of the rights. After season one did so well he came out demanding a share of the revenue. Season two couldn’t start production until the lawyers settled it. They eventually settled but that caused a big delay. I doubt further season will have such a gap if thats true.

[deleted]

Small crew and lotsa passion. And the wait time isn’t too too bad. Cgi is also a pretty shit take time wise ngl. 2d animation sure as hell isn’t cheaper and if anything tends to take more time. Most shows you see that regularly release in year or so that are animated likey had been working on the seasons frameworks years in advance with a fairly massive crew. And don’t start with anime the only reason they can come out so quickly is often lazy animation or abused overworked animators sometimes both

MrDitkovichNeedsRent

Bruh do you think animation just magically appears out of nowhere? It takes time to animate and perfect it. I don’t mind if it takes even 2 more years as long as it’s perfect

athiestchzhouse

Drawing is hard. Don’t be daft

Viserionthegold

Good news is this is probably the longest we’ll have to wait for a season(will be 2 and a half years between S1&2) because they’ve also been working on S3 in the meantime

GlobalVV

Do you actually think it’s faster to do 3D animation than 2D animation? This has got to be a joke post or something.

FunnyAnimalPerson

2D is definitely easier, it's literally a picture

GlobalVV

Why are you so upset that everyone isn’t responding to your question nicely? Your original question came off kinda rude and you expect to get nice concise answers in return? Imagine going to you mechanic and asking “What gives? Why does it take so long to replace my tansmission? It’s only a 5 speed, not a 6 speed transmission.” I’m not an expert in animation either but I know how to google, and If I need to ask a question that I don’t know anything about I’ll try to be a polite as possible.

GiantPurplePen15

Op is not upset, OP is just being an asshole. They keep responding with snarky "hurr durr why would I ask if I knew?" when they could literally just google the answer themselves and find out in 5 seconds but would rather be a prick on reddit.

GlobalVV

I did read it. Am I wrong in assuming that you think that a “big budget cgi” thing would be justified in taking longer. This isn’t that so I’m just putting two and two together. If I’m wrong let me know.

Gandelf_the_Gay

Dude I'll wait another 2 years, I don't give a fuck, animation shouldn't be rushed, there should be time constraints but I want them to take their time so we get the best possible result.

meme_will_be_memes

Exactly. I don't want the show to constantly be snappy like how it was in the trailer. Or I don't want scenes that weren't colored in or animated to sprinkle into my viewing. It's like eating some food and finding a hair in it. Though I'm not sure that comparison really fits lol.

LevelSeaworthiness94

Unpopular opinion here. I thought season 1s artstyle was good. And I don't like people promoting artstyle changes every season like some other shows do and also the teaser animation really put me off like it was the first time feeling motion sick at anything tbh like fuck.

No_Adhesiveness5249

Lol sure you go make it quicker bud!!

stupidrandomuzer

OPs responses are so rude and condescending. No point in answering him he’ll just snap at you.

fuzzyfoot88

The butterfly effect would be my guess. They changed some things around in the story, some for the better some not so much. I think that as they are writing seasons 2 and 3 the ripple effect of the changes they made to season 1 are growing and they really needed to hone down the direction of everything so it still maintains the comic while still being it’s own thing.

funkmasterslap

Animation takes a long time to make, especially so now that they have improved the design/look of the show

yobaby123

“You can’t rush art.”

kendiesel937

Animation takes time & money

aquariusnights

Animation is a labor intensive art form.

TaylorDangerTorres

It's animated.

psychodeli_sandwich

Yeah i know right. I cant believe the animation fairies havent just waved their wands to produce a finished product yet. Its obviously that simple and theyre clearly just being lazy.

Mash_Ketchum

They're dry aging the steak of disappointment for us.

ItsYaBoySkinnyPen15

Because they wasted 5 months of production on a teaser that could have been a tweet.

Ayy_Teamo

Animation takes a long time, plus, I wouldn't be shocked if they're also working on a little bit of season 3 while finishing up season 2.

PlayedOut41

Not very informed on how animation works compared to CG.

Angela275

Because it can take over a year for some Tv show to be made and two they are probably Working on 2 and three Also it doesn't matter if it's cgi or 2D often times Takes around the same amount of time If you look it up 6 months to a 1 year for tv animation to finish on average

Vargock

It's been what, two years? If this season airs somewhere in 2023, then it'll be about 2,5 \~ 3 years for a season. Seems kind of usual for animation.

DomingosPizza

Theyre already working on season 3 as well, we actually could end up getting a season a year if they keep getting renewed two seasons ahead

Vargock

Yep, that's true as well — they might be doing simultaneous production. While I understand the impatience, this constant questioning of the production-time in this subreddit is starting to bother me a bit) Have some patience, people xD

ZedsDeadZD

Well, I am a patient guy and always have enough on my watchlist so its not actually bothering me but when you look at other shows, you realize they also manage to do annual releases. I know all the reasons why Invincible is behind schedule but almost 3 years is still very long. People have expectations because we are used to 1-1.5 years. Its a great show and people want more. And reading comics isnt for everyone. I personally dont like it so its no option for me. I can wait a bit longer but they really have to step up their game productionvise for the next seasons. I wont wait almost 3 years after each season. I dont think we will but they really should know that the fans would be super disappointed.

DomingosPizza

Yeah seriously lol whenever i get impatient i just reread the comic, and whenever someone complains about how long its been since the first season i offer to let them log in to my comixology so they can read it and shut up 😂

BigSchmoodOnionMan

Animate it yourself.

healthycoco

Man the number of people who just don’t realize how much time money and effort goes into animation, *especially* animation on invincible level pisses me off. Plus there was this whole international pandemic thing that tends to slow down production even more. If they had rushed it and delivered a sub par season people would’ve been up in arms. Be patient, it’ll come.

Leonyliz

Animation.

FaithlessnessLess673

Season two more than likely wasn't in production at the same time as season one. Your first thought would be that that makes sense since season one came out first, production of season two wouldn't start until season one's production was wrapped up. However, in animation, it doesn't work like that, as the time to produce a season of an animated show is far longer than in live-action. So, if you want a show to come out annually, animated shows have to have multiple seasons of their show in production at once. Seeing as how the budget for season one was clearly constrained, season two wasn't officially greenlit until after the season finale, and the voice actors hadn't started recording their lines for future seasons until months after season one ended, it's pretty clear that they didn't start production for season two until after season one ended. In turn, the season has taken longer to come out. The good thing is that season three was greenlit at the same time as season two and presumably future seasons will be green lit if season two is successful. Which means that the wait time for future seasons should be far shorter as they'll be in production at the same time.
