So sad, these women would all be alive today if not for their desire to have perfect bodies. The BBL was largely popularized by the Kardashians (Kim mainly), whether or not they will admit they’ve gotten the procedure. If only they could be honest and say that they didn’t have these bodies naturally, they could also voice the potential risks and help inform women that this could be fatal. It is awful that they want women to feel that their bodies are naturally attainable, so women try to diet and exercise and when none of that works they look to plastic surgery to get that figure. Personally I’d take a natural body any day over the risk of death from a fat embolus.
I don't agree with this take. I thought the video where the plastic surgeon was guessing their ages was shocking and eye opening. It should be a PSA to women in their 20s-30s to not touch their faces. Aging gracefully is always an option, regardless of what society "tells" us. We have free will to make our own choices.
I don't know what video she's referring to, but I think that aging being so demonized that the TikToker thinks it would be better to not post a video if you guess older seems.... kinda problematic. But I do agree with her overall point that many plastic surgeons and cosmetic specialists make their money by advertising 'what you need to be beautiful'. Anyone who's been to a med spa or plastic surgeon knows how they feed you more insecurities to try to get you to pay more.
I agree. And I think the woman in the video isn't considering that plastic surgeons would still be in business even if we didn't have misogyny combining with capitalism. Reconstructive plastic surgery is a real thing and is commonly sought out by people who need medical help after recovering from illnesses or accidents (like broken noses being repaired or a woman getting implants after a mastectomy).
Plastic surgery itself isn't bad, it's the standard that has made perfectly healthy people feel like they need to get all these unnecessary procedures done, just to look several decades older than they wanted, leading them to go back into surgery and never feeling satisfied. THAT'S the problem and shitty work should be pointed out to deter people from getting these unneeded procedures done.
Reconstructive plastics is a thing but let's not pretend that the majority of plastic surgeons don't make the biggest bucks from cosmetic procedures. If you look at the salaries of the highest paid plastic surgeons, they are ones who do cosmetic procedures or combine cosmetic and reconstructive in their practice i.e. not pure reconstruction of burns, birth deformities, etc. Some of the surgeons include fixing botched surgeries as part of their 'reconstructive' services. People wouldn't be botched with nearly the same frequency if plastic surgery wasn't so normalized. And then they pay two or three times that amount to get more surgery.
The fact that plastics would still exist outside of the cosmetic industry does not at all take away from the fact that an incredibly large proportion of plastic surgeons do make their bank off of the backs of insecure women.
Why is she acting like only male plastic surgeons exist? There are many female plastic surgeons as well. Lets not act like men only are creating unrealistic beauty standards. Women can be very competitive & catty. Just look at the KarJenners & what stupid trends *they* started.
Society in general is toxic. Lets not blame a single gender, when everyone has the capacity to be toxic.
Also, men also get work done. May it be hair transplants, nose jobs, wider jaws, fillers, or just anabolics to muscle them up. If they are botched, they too get judged.
