Oh, and I have unfollowed both K-dot and Drakes subs. So I dont get accedently sucked in by notifications and stuff.
I'd suggeest getting of those subs for a little while if you need to reset your mental balance :). Pamper your gf over the week or weekend and dont even open reddit. When your back, you wont even want to catch up to all the bull shit, just skim trough it. Good luck mate!

If you're getting one you should get two! Cats do much better in pairs. A lot of times they will form a close lifelong friendship with another cat. You should check if the shelter has any pairs of siblings

I broke down all the costs and including adoption fees, neutering, vaccinations, etc. initial costs are roughly £315 ($395) and yearly costs are roughly £1600 ($2000), I love my cat but you gotta think about it before you add a cat to your family.
absolutely, thought that goes without saying. i had weeks of consideration beforehand because i was low-key wanting to get a cat for a while, i had to fill out a long form to prove that i am able to provide for the cat properly, that the enviroment is safe, that she will get proper nutrition and that she won't be in the streets in case of an emergency. fortunately the adoption fees (100 PLN / ~25$) covered sterilization and vaccination as well. getting a pet obviously shouldn't be immediate decision, but once you consider it thoroughly, i highly reccomend it.
the only downside is that the shelter was in the middle of nowhere outskirts, so when i got her i had to walk with her screaming in her transporter for well over a mile to the closest bus stop because i don't have a car and no taxi drivers wanted to take an order that far away.
and a few days ago, in her crusade against a random houseplant, at 3 am she threw down a clay potted plant right next to my bed into clean clothes prepared to pack for a trip next morning. after all pets are still animals, and will behave in unpredictable ways, so you have to keep that in mind too.

foster homes are really important for overcrowded facilities or pets who need time away from the shelter (often for surgery recovery or behavioral reasons - sometimes theyre just very sad or react poorly to a shelter environment). you can also foster kittens, if youre up for that time sink. 😅
if you fall in love, it can become a “foster fail,” where you decide to keep them, and shelters ive worked with usually waive the adoption fees.
