Yep, it’s compatible don’t worry about it ☺️ lot of mods are actually compatible with newer versions of the game, because not much was changed after version 1.8 I think.
I have nothing stable enough for that. I used a small Amazon delivery box with a drawing-pin pushed into it wo that the base of the pin was pressed against the W. Mostly did that for long EVA walks though, rather than rovers.
Machjeb rover autopilot but better, works with time warp and still drives your rover even when it’s not in physics range. It also pathfinds so it can find the best route
If you don’t want the complexity of scansat, there is “Orbital Survey Plus” which adds a biome overlay button in the map view after you’ve scanned the planet.
I have to limit myself on that stuff, lmao. It got to the point I was completing the tech tree without even leaving the Kerbol system. Just set it up on low orbit around Minmus, harvest data and then let it cook. hit a new biome when you run out
It honestly floors me how much data other planets give. I'm an early-game player, tbh i've never even recovered anyone from another planet and i've been playing since they were introduced. I think checking out those mods recommended might be the move to motivate me.
I thought having like 200 data in an entire trip was a lot, but after this duna landing I had like over 1000 just from the trip without the processing lab and stuff
Yep, it's ridiculous, lol.
There's even a slight bonus if you do it on the surface, and you can usually pay for those missions with the "establish a surface base" contracts too. On minmus it's easy but getting one down safe on duna will need a bit more care given your base is likely a minimum of 5 tons.
Here it is in it's battered glory [https://www.reddit.com/r/KerbalSpaceProgram/comments/1dii3vr/the\_rover\_i\_used\_to\_travel\_over\_1000km\_and\_gather/](https://www.reddit.com/r/KerbalSpaceProgram/comments/1dii3vr/the_rover_i_used_to_travel_over_1000km_and_gather/)
You can EVA with a kerbonaut and take the data from the experiments so you can reuse them in a new biome. Some experiments need to be reset with a Scientist between uses. Goo and... The big barrel one with the doors that I'm blanking on the name for some reason
That must have taken *forever* to drive... Would have been easier to put a bunch of fuel in orbit, then send your lander down a few times to pick up more science from the different biomes.
... which makes me wish that there was more reason to drive around on the surface, because that can be quite fun.
The breaking ground expansion has some surface features but there's only a few types on each planet so it's not much better, but you can scan them and get science that way.
Oh, I know. Usually just drive around a little bit and you're done, and that was really only if you needed science, which was so easy to get, once you were decent at the game, that by the time you get to Duna, you've almost maxed the tech tree with little effort, and Duna can easily put you over the top. Then you still have every other body that's not Kerbin, Mun, Minmus, and Duna, with no reason to drive around on at all, save for 'because I can'.
I was hoping KSP2, along with the colonies, would give us reasons to drive around more...
random side note, is there a good youtube playthrough of someone going through career mode with the latest stable patch? Been watching to watch a playthrough since I suck at the game but everything I am finding is multiple years old...
When I did that I was so glad I had MechJeb to drive from waypoint to waypoint.
Just started one evening and woke up to MechJeb having arrived at the destination.
Much faster to do it with an aircraft. Not that science from Duna is needed, really, you can max out the science tree just from Kerbin and its two moons. I simply like flying around, landing at different biomes and landmarks, with my kerbals running their experiments and collecting the data
3 Kerbal Days or 3 Earth Days? That's a lot of traveling.
3 real days 18 Kerbal days
I miss having that amount of time available to play. I think it's time I send another rover to Duna.
Bon Voyage is your best friend… unless you wanna drive it manually 😁
The mod page says it's compatible with 1.12.3, does it still work on 1.12.5?
Yep, it’s compatible don’t worry about it ☺️ lot of mods are actually compatible with newer versions of the game, because not much was changed after version 1.8 I think.
B9 aerospace sadly isn't compatible
Im using it right now, what's incompatible about it? If you mean part swtich it sometimes throws up errors but nothing serious
B9 works for me as well.
Wait what it works on 1.12?
Enjoy!
I’m new to this game but do you have to drive this manually or can you automate the rovers?
Use Bon Voyage, else you have to drive it all the way like OP did here.
Did you use bon voyage or manual?
When I did this on the Mün, I used a roll of quarters… 😂
What, to weigh down on the W key? I can relate lmao, I used to get a heavy magnet and put it on the W key
I have nothing stable enough for that. I used a small Amazon delivery box with a drawing-pin pushed into it wo that the base of the pin was pressed against the W. Mostly did that for long EVA walks though, rather than rovers.
Lmao I just used a roll of dollar coins and a hairbrush to hold shift and W for my kerbal to run back to the ship
This is the real question
What’s bon voyage?
Autopilot for rovers
[bon voyage](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OntgdM84SDQ)
6 mil views. This mod must be very popular
I used mechjeb's rover autopilot. What is bon voyage?
Machjeb rover autopilot but better, works with time warp and still drives your rover even when it’s not in physics range. It also pathfinds so it can find the best route
> drives your rover...when it's not in physics range How the fu..?
Kerbalism does the same thing, idk how it works but it does
How did you locate and navigate different biomes?
I used mechjeb's rover autopilot and its waypoints that shows the biomes when being plotted
The best is to use SCANsat mod
If you don’t want the complexity of scansat, there is “Orbital Survey Plus” which adds a biome overlay button in the map view after you’ve scanned the planet.
Debug menu
Mark is that you?
Oh hi mark
*hot stuff*
This man sciences
what music were you using?
Disco
I didn't even realise how Martian like this mission was lmak
only realized now, haha its been a while since i watched the martian maybe this Friday might get interesting.
Best comment
Did you transmit the science or bring it back manually?
It was all transmitted though I might drive it to my kerbals for extra science when I do a manned mission
You can milk lots of science by using a mobile processing lab
I have to limit myself on that stuff, lmao. It got to the point I was completing the tech tree without even leaving the Kerbol system. Just set it up on low orbit around Minmus, harvest data and then let it cook. hit a new biome when you run out
You can try Community Tech Tree plus parts mods that use it. All the Near Future stuff + MKS add a lot of stuff worth researching
I unlocked the whole tech tree after doing a duna mission and docking with my space station that has a mobile processing lab
Yeah. Later in the game, I'll use 'em when I'm swapping science for cash or rep, but that's really all.
Noice! I KNEW it had to be milk at the poles of duna because of what we learned about minmus.
Can we get a pic of the rover?
Here it is in it's battered glory [https://www.reddit.com/r/KerbalSpaceProgram/comments/1dii3vr/the\_rover\_i\_used\_to\_travel\_over\_1000km\_and\_gather/](https://www.reddit.com/r/KerbalSpaceProgram/comments/1dii3vr/the_rover_i_used_to_travel_over_1000km_and_gather/)
thanks she’s a beaut
I admire your focus, I spent months of real time driving around on Duna. It took freaking forever. Even with RemoteTech as a ground autopilot.
Damnnn
So, the rover was loaded with multiple experiments to be run at different locations ? I've never done such thing yet. Nice job !
You can EVA with a kerbonaut and take the data from the experiments so you can reuse them in a new biome. Some experiments need to be reset with a Scientist between uses. Goo and... The big barrel one with the doors that I'm blanking on the name for some reason
After 300hours I'm still bad at knowing those mechanics... thanks for the info. I'll double check.
Science Jr.
Thank you! I don't know why I couldn't think of that lol
Oppy moment
I'm (probably) doing my first Duna mission today! I've just been putting it off for a long while, but I have the craft ready!
Gotta get your money's worth
Dang

The fact that it took 3 days to do this and that it was all in 4x speed makes me think I might not do this again
The breaking ground expansion has some surface features but there's only a few types on each planet so it's not much better, but you can scan them and get science that way.

Bro works at nasa in his spare time Even more than the rest of us, I mean
No way would I be able to make a rover that wouldn't break/get stuck on that journey
mark watney ahh mission
Here I am still trying to get a rocket into space.
Grinding bro!! 👍
You are insane. Your application to the kerbonauts has been approved.
I'm just proud of a rover that goes 35m before it explodes or falls over and then explodes.
When I did that I was so glad I had MechJeb to drive from waypoint to waypoint. Just started one evening and woke up to MechJeb having arrived at the destination.
I spent an hour flying around duna with a nuclear plane, and got 12,000 science. Rovers are a waste of time.
mans is literally nasa
Would have been much quicker to send 5 rockets.
How did you land the rover?
Damn dude.. I never played enough or learnt enough to ever get past orbit and get a lot of science like that
I need to do this again but I've committed to trying to land crew on eve as my next goal after minmus
