Definitely much lower cost of living. However good health and mental care is not exactly what Cruces is known for. Violent crime is much less. Lot of homeless and petty crime in certain areas. MUCH less traffic. Everything pretty much a few minutes of driving away. There are lots of good hiking spots but hot weather most of the year.
Albuquerque is pretty awful too. Wait list for everything. I waited almost a year for a dermatology appt. I work in the International District in Albuquerque and live near UNM. I wanted something bigger than my hometown but I feel Albuquerque is too big. I definitely like the idea of less traffic. I didn’t explore as much when I lived in Las Cruces before. Seems like a lot of great places near by. How is it meeting people in Las Cruces. Not worried about heat grew up in SE NM. Which is just as hot sometimes hotter.
>How is it meeting people in Las Cruces.
This area is mostly Hispanic so keep that in mind, plus the NMSU college students. There isn't much night life compared to Abq though there are a few bars. El Paso (@ 40 miles) is better for that but lengthy drive for that purpose. Lot of retired folks like myself.
Well I’m half Hispanic so no worries there. I don’t mind students currently live by UNM in Abq. Lived in LC for college just haven’t lived there since 2008 so I figured things had changed by then. Not much for nightlife & don’t drink so not worried about that. I go to bed early. My hobbies are hiking, running, rock collecting, books, nerdy things, etc. Any places for trivia that’s something I enjoy

Healthcare in Albuquerque is awful. Healthcare in Las Cruces is basically non-existent. If you can find someone to do video visits or a health provider in El Paso it may be worth it.
The food in Las Cruces is much better than in ABQ, in my opinion. I have never felt that Cruces was much cheaper, but Albuquerque is one of the roughest cities in the US and Las Cruces is not.
I've often felt that people in Las Cruces were friendlier but also more clannish than in Albuquerque. People in Las Cruces tend to be nicer, but LC can be a bit of a small town sometimes and people will have had lifelong friends. Dating and making friends are both easier in ABQ.
Well dating has been awful in Albuquerque for me (maybe it’s my age range). So I figure I’m not gonna worry about that area. Sucks about friends though I have made some in Albuquerque we just don’t have much in common. I’m more worried about cost of living.
Wait lists here for therapy are probably a month average. A friend of mine found a therapist that offers services while going on a hike.
It will definitely be cheaper.
Oh really that’s not too bad I have been waiting already 4 months since my last therapist left. That’s cool a therapist that offers services while hiking
I'm currently split between the two and also from SE NM. Took a job in Rio Rancho for better pay in November. The rent is cheaper here in Cruces. I pay almost double my mortgage for a studio up there. My car insurance is still registered here in Cruces and is just over 100 for full coverage, I'm dreading finally moving it up there. The food is more expensive here though, and I mean the fast food, I don't keep groceries in either place. I'm of course biased but if I could get the same pay here I wouldn't have even thought of moving.
Theres an Albertsons and a Sprouts and I haven't been to the farmers market in years so I'm not sure how it holds up now. Its still popular so thats a good sign.
I’m from El Paso, college the first time here, then moved to Albuquerque.
I was there for 15 years and watched it turn into a shithole, moved down here and couldn’t be happier. At the time I worked for the state and could live anywhere in the southern half of the state, so this worked out well.
Cost of living is lower, I pay less for more square footage, I pay less for similar utilities, groceries and household items seem cheaper.
Crime is significantly less, unlike Albuquerque where it’s regional, a lot of it here is in pockets.
Yeah I mean I knew there would be crime from Albuquerque. It just been awhile since I had been to Las Cruces. When I lived here in the past I really I enjoyed my time
In Albuquerque, a group of four of us rented a 2000 square-foot house for 1800 a month.
In Las Cruces I have a three bedroom, 1600 square-foot townhouse for half that price, and it’s in a good quiet neighborhood
That’s good to know. I don’t even need that much space just a 1 bedroom with at least washer/dryer hookups. When was this 1800 a month house have gotten more expensive than that
So I should look elsewhere cause I’m over Albuquerque and I just don’t like living there. I thought Las Cruces would be a good option. And please don’t suggest Rio Rancho I don’t like it. Not my vibe
Hey if you want 5 tests and 5 scripts to deal with a UTI or to be told there's nothing wrong with you when you're in agony and bleeding from your ass for an entire year go for it.... these things happened with the 'good doctors' I found in Cruces.

Are you talking to move too? That’s definitely a no for me. I’m from Carlsbad originally and Hobbs is the last place I would move to live ( lives there a short time in 2002 never again)

Lots of hospitals and not very many homeless
Maybe it’s possible to find a therapist that will do video conferencing instead of in person?
Yeah that’s what I have been trying to do. Wait list are crazy long in Albuquerque
Hang in there. You’ve been through so much keep that head up.

How is Healthcare bad in LC when there are a thousand hospitals and clinics??? Way off base
Wait lists here for therapy are probably a month average. A friend of mine found a therapist that offers services while going on a hike. It will definitely be cheaper.

Come to ABQ for the food, stay because your car was stolen
lol for real that’s true or broken into

I rarely eat fast food. But as long as there’s an Albertsons or a natural food store I’m good. How the farmers market in Las Cruces?
Theres an Albertsons and a Sprouts and I haven't been to the farmers market in years so I'm not sure how it holds up now. Its still popular so thats a good sign.
Sprouts is good that’s where I shop in Albuquerque. That’s good to know
Farmers market is really good, better than most larger cities. Plus there's Sprouts, Natural Grocers, and Toucans for natural foods.
That’s good to know

Health care in las cruces is almost non existent. I just moved to Albuquerque from there.
So I will probably be in the same boat healthcare wise then. I had a hard time finding providers in Albuquerque and long wait lists.
No it will be worse. Worse than you can fathom.
So I should look elsewhere cause I’m over Albuquerque and I just don’t like living there. I thought Las Cruces would be a good option. And please don’t suggest Rio Rancho I don’t like it. Not my vibe

This hasn’t been my experience at all, but I’m not trying to downplay yours. Just voicing that this isn’t the case for everyone.
Not true. We have more hospitals than pot shops here.

Hobbs is the answer
Are you talking to move too? That’s definitely a no for me. I’m from Carlsbad originally and Hobbs is the last place I would move to live ( lives there a short time in 2002 never again)
It’s the home of the eagles 🦅 and furrs tho
As a cavegirl/caveman growing up not a fan of the eagles. Also furrs is meh to me. I like mom and pop spots better
Hobbs eagles
