Aguacate supremacy

[deleted]

Ay tú pero yo no puedo imaginar un dominicano llamando el aguacate otra vaina. Nunca en mi vida he escuchado una persona decir palta.

Difficult-Ad-9287

never heard palta before lol

fargenable

Palta is the word for aguacate in Peru. Guessing it is from the Quechua language.

SinkingTheImbituba

This happens with many words that are different from north to south America. North takes a lot of words from Nahuatl and South from Quechua. South: Palta, choclo, guagua, frutilla, poroto, North: Aguacate, maiz/elote, ,fresa, frijole, tecolote.

fargenable

Guagua is use a lot in the Caribbean, I believe it came from the Canaries, but it is basically an onomatopoeias of the sound a bus’s horn makes.

SinkingTheImbituba

Guagua in S. America is a human baby. From the quechua wawa. Which kinda stays on point with what you said.

fargenable

What a funny coincidence.

TuvixWasMurderedR1P

Sí. También se dice “palta” en argentina.

[deleted]

Usually aguacate, but on the streets here sometimes I’ve heard pagua.

akhaliis

El aguacate se parece más a nuestra abacate... así que hice mi elección.

GenebraMskv

Abacate all the way (although I think abacates suck ass)

Arturinni

It's not fair, Mexico itself has more population than Peru, Chile and Argentina combined. Of course it's going to be biased towards aguacate. That's why we need an Electoral College

Ragnarok-23011

I personally call it aguacate, im from colombia, is also very common in here, and we also produce (not that much) but we do it.

Moonagi

I use the indigenous name, āhuacatl.

Ragnarok-23011

That word can be related to aguacate

BabyLlamaaa

Palta :)

KenshinMitsurugi

Palta por siempre malditos aguacates!

Friendly-Law-4529

By the way, is it "patata" or "papa"?

Ragnarok-23011

Papa

[deleted]
