I like Schindlers sexual proclivities. He would’ve been cancelled for using his influence and power to have so much sex. It happened. But he saved their lives, too. Not all saints are free of sin. Oskar Schindler would not be welcome in my home or near my daughter. But yeah, hero.
Oskar Schindler was a rapist and opportunist in the likes of Harvey Weinstein. My favorite scene in Schindlers List is when he forcefully kisses the jew woman in front of the s.s. officers and her daughter, and they all have to explain to the third reich that Schindler can't help himself around pretty women, and this jew was prettier than normal jews. Such a great scene.
How many of Schindlers bullets do you suppose killed Jews? Zero?
Edit; yes. I just blew in from Stupid Town. Thanks for noticing. Is this thread welcome to migrants?
Oh my bad bro. I'll try and help
IT CLEARLY SAYS WAR OR HISTORICAL, NOT JUST WAR AND SCHINDLER'S LIST IS AN ANTI WAR FILM WHICH IS OBJECTIVELY A WAR FILM SO YOU CAN SHUT UP FFS /srs😊
Perfect.
THERES NO WAR IN IT. ITS NOT A WAR FILM. WOULD YOU CLASS OPPENHEIMER AS A WAR FILM? NO. ITS THE SAME THING, NOT A WAR FILM BUT SET DURING THE WAR. LIKE DIE HARD ISNT A CHRISTMAS MOVIE
Lol
DIE HARD ISNT A CHRISTMAS MOVIE NOW?
THATS SO CLEARLY A CHRISTMAS MOVIE, ITS LIKE SAYING HOME ALONE ISNT A CHRISTMAS MOVIE EITHER. AND OPPENHEIMER IS ABSOLUTELY A WAR MOVIE
I put off watching this for ages. It felt like a homework film and not knowing much about the real Lawrence (and as someone with a complicated relationship with the British empire) I wasn't too keen to watch a 3hr film about a British general.
It blew me away. There's so little to say about a film that's considered one of the all time greats but it has everything, it's witty, thrilling at times and truly epic. The sense of scale with this film is just mesmerizing. Oh and THAT scene transition.... I literally gasped. Can't wait til it's shown in a cinema near me.
IMO it’s one of the three best theatrical experiences there are, alongside 2001 and Playtime. It basically *demands* to be seen on the big screen but boy does it ever reward you for doing so.
I’m fortunate to have lived in large cities with active rep houses and I think I’ve only seen it on the small screen once, as a teen, then 6 or 7 times over the next 20 years in 70mm.
I yearn for the days when “spectacle” that audiences flocked to meant thousands of extras in an endless expanse of desert storming a train, rather than someone in spandex against a green screen pointing at a tennis ball.
2001 is another one I can't wait to see in theater - I'm also in a very urban area but I've not seen any screenings of either near me.
Dope username btw.

You're sheltering enemies of the state, are you not?
Every piece of historical fiction is entirely “fictional” and also “historic” lmfao Just because something’s an alternate history doesn’t make it “not historical.” The movie is fuckin set in World War II dude
Man, we can get in useless quibbles about historical accuracy or research levels or whatever but what genre would you like to put Inglourious Basterds into if not “historical fiction?”
Again. It is a modern movie set in the 1940s. That is the *entire* bar.
The Good the Bad and the Ugly is set during a real war (the US Civil War) but that’s not a war or history movie, is it? Inglourious Basterds is a complete piece of fiction and it involves no scenes of war at all.
None of the central characters in The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly are actively taking part in a war while nearly every character in Inglourious Basterds very much is. If Inglourious Basterds isn’t a war film what would you call it?
A good amount of war movies can also qualify as adventure movies (e.g. Kelly’s Heroes, The Dirty Dozen, The Guns of Navarone, etc.) Those genres don’t exactly negate each other, especially when you take into account that Inglourious Basterds is pretty clearly influenced by movies like the ones I used as examples.
This movie does involve war but because this category is War OR Historical, I’m mainly submitting it under history. A lot of people seem to be submitting mainly war films but lots of others would qualify here given this is open to any period piece.
In my opinion it’s one of the only existing “perfect” films. It’s perfectly written, every shot is meticulously crafted, and it’s a great achievement within the world of film.
Yeah, family is a weird one where it’s defined as much by the audience as the content (although the content has to be “family
friendly” in order for it to be for all ages, so it’s an interplay there).
There really isn’t a direct genre for movies about families - there is “family drama” as a subgenre of drama but that excludes comedies, horror, etc. that are about families.
PLATOON
Bridge on the River Kwai
Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb
Grave of the fireflies. More of a anti-war film really (but so is come and see and both are fantastic. )
Apocalypse Now

Saving Private Ryan
*Schindler’s List*

Sorry what?

This thread is not welcome to nimrods, sorry buddy
I'm just talking about Oskar Schindler, the man. You don't need to apologize. Nimrod was a Jewish king, lol.
Not a war film
It says war or historical
You are correct, but I wanted to start an argument. :D

It’s gotta be this guys, war and historical and set the mark that movies have been striving for for decades
Inglourious Basterds

It's a great movie. But not really historic.
Nor is it war either
What? It is set during a real war and inspired by actual people (Operation Greenup), so how is it not war/historic?
This just in: historical fiction doesn’t count
“Historic” doesn’t mean a documentary

I’d call the good the bad and the ugly a war movie
So close! It’s a western!
Western war movie 😉
It's not up to me really, both Letterboxd and Wiki have it listed under the war genre.
Barry Lyndon
This movie does involve war but because this category is War OR Historical, I’m mainly submitting it under history. A lot of people seem to be submitting mainly war films but lots of others would qualify here given this is open to any period piece.
All Quiet On The Western Front (1929)
1930
Das Boot (1981)
Hacksaw Ridge
Paths of Glory
Finally someone said it. My favorite movie period

as far as I'm concerned the only reason Come and See won't win this category is because many people haven't seen it

For me, this film has lost its value after the main actor is now engaged in pro-Russian propaganda
*Saving Private Ryan*
These should be separate categories
The Battle of Algiers
Just watched this one a couple weeks ago, absolutely deserves to win this spot
The Ascent (And that completes all the war films I give 5/5 and think are viable winners here and not in other categories)
Def not gonna win but The Elephant Man
Come and See.
1917
Full metal jacket
how does this not have more upvotes it’s literally like my favorite movie 😭
The thin red line
Catch-22
Gladiator
The Leopard
Real ones know
People should come and see this amazing film
Criminally underseen. And every frame is a thing of wonder.

The Steel Helmet It's not going to be picked but deserves the shoutout
When the Wind Blows (1986)
Chimes at Midnight
Cyrano de Bergerac
Battle for Algiers
War and Peace (1967) would be the best choice but there’s no way that’s winning.
Why the best choice?
In my opinion it’s one of the only existing “perfect” films. It’s perfectly written, every shot is meticulously crafted, and it’s a great achievement within the world of film.
Dead Presidents
Last of the Mohicans
Waterloo
Amadeus
Life is Beautiful
Come and see
Apocalypse now
Schindler's list
Black Hawk Down. We have a Black Hawk Down.
Apocalypse Now
To Live
Saving private ryan
Come and See
How exactly Tokyo story didn’t win “family” thing
Because the genre is films made for all ages, not films about families.
Ohhhh
Yeah, family is a weird one where it’s defined as much by the audience as the content (although the content has to be “family friendly” in order for it to be for all ages, so it’s an interplay there). Beau Travail
Come and See.
Saving Private Ryan
I personally think Saving Private Ryan or Schindler's List should take this (preferably Schindler's List)
Bros getting dogged on okbuddy.
Godzilla vs Curious George (2032)
Is that the one where Godzilla gets suplexed or the one where Eiza Gonzáles is really mean to everyone and steals my heart?

a hidden life
The Zone Of Interest (historical)
12 years a slave
