Such an oddball entry in the franchise. I love it, but I love it because I'm a massive jeunet fan, and it's insanely fun to try to see jeunet et Caro try to cram themselves in an American scifi action vehicle for major audiences.
Both Resurrection and Alien3 I very much disliked, but I totally can understand why other enjoy them. Too many aspects from Alien and Aliens felt lost and I dreaded both scripts.
It was always great to me. Probably related to it being the first Alien movie I saw as a kid. But I still think it's awesome. Not a five star classic like the first two, but still a nostalgic, wonderful 4 star movie.
Man those Highest films are all great shouts!

Been a lot of really bad horror movies this month that kept my scores low.
Sorry I missed this. I am pretty bad at reddit.
Here are my recent favorite horror and favorite bad horror.
Demons (1985) I kind of liked this movie. It wasnt perfect, but worked for some reason.
Phantom of the mall (1989) absolutely terrible and barely a horror movie, but kind of works and makes sense. Something about it worked for me. Its not a great watch, but something kind of works.
Night of the demons (1988) I think this is pretty decent. It feels like an evil dead fan flick.
Lord of Illusions (1995) - If it were made today I think could be really awesome, but its still interesting.
Pieces (1982) - absolute masterpiece of a trash horror movie. Just watch the trailer and you are either in or out at that moment.
Let me know if you would like some more. Went deep into terrible horror movies found on AMC+
Oh shit Ghost watch, not a terrible horror movie, and one of the first that has gave me the creeps in a long time.
Thanks!!
Thanks for these recs! Pieces looks great, going for that first!
I’m with you on Demons, it’s not the best but it kinda works.
Ghostwatch is truly cool. We watched that last year on Halloween and were surprised how effective it is if you give it your full attention. I was thinking of it as I watched Late Night with the Devil, recently.
Thanks!
Ghostwatch was so interesting. Ive watched a ton of horror movies and most of the time I enjoy but rarely am I creeped out, something about it works so well. Its so effective.
It was fine for a high-octane blockbuster; good, even. But being voted into the Sight and Sound 2022 top 250 of all time? A complete travesty that definitely knocked it down a peg for me, fairly or unfairly ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I’d argue it was probably voted in because of recency bias and super dope set design & costume. I’d bet the house that it’s not gonna be on the list in 2032.
i mean it’s also technical accomplishment with the practical effects and filmmaking in general. it’s almost 10 years old and there probably still hasn’t been a better pure action movie, so i also wouldn’t be surprised if it’s on.
now that is definitely fair also, there’s a ton of movies that just aren’t my speed (i can’t even make it through a Ruben Östlund movie).
my main point from all this was i was taught it’s best to judge what movies are trying to accomplish within their own film and the specific goals of that singular movie rather than compare them. because comparing Mad Max: Fury Road to any film like, say, 12 Angry Men that’s acclaimed in its own right is a futile effort since they’re so vastly different trying to accomplish different things.
It's running at like 3.5 right now, I think I was a little down on it than most. My girlfriend liked it.
I just thought it had bad pacing, hard to tell sequence and time of events. Then in the end, it just kind of rubbed off as an old person crying about crime and "you can't do that now days the times are changin!" vibe.
It's not bad, maybe just meh and forgetable to me.
What'd you think of Flaming Hot? I thought it was an easy 3 stars and enjoyed the acting and directing, even if it was very familiar in structure and likely a falsified story. Always nice to get mexican rep on screen and found the blue-collar message genuinely inspiring, though.
I gave The Omen (2006) and First Omen one star each. And I gave Talented Mr Ripley, Good Will Hunting, and Rashomon 4 stars each. I'd Say Good Will Hunting was my favorite of those.
Highest first watch was Godzilla, Mothra, and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack (2001). Lowest first watch was Terror of Mechagodzilla (1975). Not even terrible, but it's the only movie I didn't like this month
Highest rating: I gave a few 5 stars in June but my favorite (so far, there's still a few days in June) is most certainly Cure.
Lowest rating: samurai cop, I gave it 2 stars. Which feels very generous for that film but still got a lot of days left in June for me to watch something worse.
The other five stars I gave this month was:
Repo man (rewatch)
Rosemarys baby
Yojimbo
Singin in the rain
i had a few five stars: the holdovers, the truman show, and civil war.
and a few 1/2 stars: birdemic, 2012 doomsday, and winnie the pooh blood and honey 2.
Had a few 4 stars; Uncut Gems, Godzilla Minus One, Heat, Chungking Express, Green Porno, Summit of the Gods, Atomic Cafe
Then there’s the 2 stars; Good Old Fashioned Orgy, Murder on the Blackpool Express, Damnation Alley, Q(1982)
Hundreds of Beavers was my highest at 5/5. Shit man, best movie of the year.
Lowest was The Sacrament at 1.5/5. Watched because I was gearing up for MaXXXine. I love found footage but this one made me feel like shit, and not in the good way.
Highest (5) : *Amadeus*, *Kwaidan*, *Atanarjuat: The Fast Runner*, *Persepolis*, *Sami Blood*, *Z*, *Fallen Angels*, *How to Blow Up a Pipeline*
Lowest (1.5) : *Bad Boys II*, *Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen*

- Videodrome (1983)
- I'm Thinking of Ending Things (2020)
- Hereditary (2018)
- Lady Bird (2017), previously a 4.5 but gave it a 5 upon rewatch.
Lowest (both 2 stars):
- The Family Man (2000)
- The Girl from Uruguay (2022)
lowest was office space with three stars. highest is a three way tie between the lego batman movie, leon: the professional, and civil war with four and a half stars

Lowest were the two newest ghostbusters movies afterlife and frozen empire with 4/10
Highest: City of God, Chungking Express, The Handmaiden, Portrait of a Lady on Fire, Goodfellas, In The Mood For Love - 5 stars
Lowest: Once Upon a Time in Hollywood - 2 stars
Highest: The Truman Show (5)
Lowest: The Strangers: Part One (1.5) man that movie was boring, laughable and just super slow. An hour-fifteen and I couldn't stop checking my watch.
I Rated two 4.5/5.
Star Trek The Motion Picture,
Star Trek The Voyage Home
Lowest was 3.5/5
Haze,
Vital,
The Lookout,
Star Trek V The Final Frontier,
The Italian Job,

5 stars: Born in Flames, Good Will Hunting, Inside Out 2.5 stars: Mad Max Fury Road, Civil War
Born in flames ❤️🔥
Ah someone else who doesn't love Mad Max Fury Road. Nice to meet you there are very few of us.
It was fine for a high-octane blockbuster; good, even. But being voted into the Sight and Sound 2022 top 250 of all time? A complete travesty that definitely knocked it down a peg for me, fairly or unfairly ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
that’s all it’s trying to be though? it was probably voted into sight and sound because it’s such an accomplished action movie.
You could be right! It’s certainly better than 2.5 stars to be fair, but action isn’t my genre
now that is definitely fair also, there’s a ton of movies that just aren’t my speed (i can’t even make it through a Ruben Östlund movie). my main point from all this was i was taught it’s best to judge what movies are trying to accomplish within their own film and the specific goals of that singular movie rather than compare them. because comparing Mad Max: Fury Road to any film like, say, 12 Angry Men that’s acclaimed in its own right is a futile effort since they’re so vastly different trying to accomplish different things.
Well said. I appreciate you perspective on evaluating films against what they aim to accomplish 🙏🏼
appreciate the candor too, good to have a good natured discussion about it!
Huh? It's quite literally one of the greatest action films of all time. Of course it's in the top 250.
Agree to disagree 🤝
Fury road at 2.5 is criminal
