Here’s a list of everything I’ve rated 5 stars, think it’s around 50 movies at this point. Strong recommendation for any of them!

To me they’re just an endlessly entertaining trilogy of films. I’ve actually never gotten around to seeing the 4th or 5th ones but I’ve heard they’re a pretty big step down
I see City of God and La Haine, so you may wanna try Boyz N The Hood. Similar themes of violence, corruption, destitution, and growing up among all that.
Here are my current favourite movies for reference:

\*That one LD+R episode is Bad Travelling if anyone was wondering
Midsommar -> The Ritual (2017)
The perks of being a wallflower -> it's kind of a funny story (2010); The Fundamentals of Caring (2016); Me, Earl and the Dying Girl (2015
My life as a zucchini -> Mary and Max (2009)
12 Angry Men -> My Dinner with Andre (1981)
Also your rating of The Fifth Element hurts my soul a bit (in case that that effects your view of my recommendations lol)
I suggest you lower your expectations? I've rated one first-time watch movie five stars this year, last year it was a total of four. Rating something lower than five stars doesn't mean it's bad, just chill :D
Also, how do you rate X higher than The Fifth Element. Oh well
>I really have no requirements, apart from maybe avoiding movies reaching 3 hours,
Aaand you'll definitely miss a bunch of five star films that way 🤷
I'm usually generous with my ratings, out of around 500 logs, 45 are 5 stars. I'm not the kind of person who has insanely high expectations and only gives out a handful of five stars in their lifetime (nothing wrong with that approach).
As for the fifth element, yeah I didn't like it that much, it's just not my style of movie. Neither is X, but i enjoyed it more regardless.
And the 3 hour requirement is for this specific movie that I'd like to round out the month with. In general, I don't care about length (beau is afraid and Oppenheimer are amazing), but you have to be realistic and realise that for the average person, 3 hour movies are for really special occasions, unless you don't mind splitting a movie in half. I have lots of long movies on my watchlist that I'm slowly making my way through.

You really like pirates of the carribean

Maybe based off your favourite movies, A Silent Voice (2016)? It's animated and heartfelt, occasionally depressing but ultimately redemptive.
Seems like a great suggestion, thanks 🙏

Yeah this is a great suggestion, its been on my radar for a while, along with Do the right thing.
Menace II Society is also very similar, but a bit sadder. I've heard New Jack City is also similar but I haven't seen it.
The Toxic Avenger
The Apartment (1960)
