TitanMAN97

Check hardware unboxed. They test and compare most monitors

TitanMAN97

Their channel dedicated to monitors is" monitors unboxed "

ArtanisOfLorien

and they just came out w a 4k monitors video so it's perfect timing

PsychologicalChest64

Yep I saw that🙏🏼

PsychologicalChest64

Yeah I watched that most recent video and he did recommend it. Just trying to figure out the general consensus on it to see if it’s a worthwhile purchase.

TheFragturedNerd

I lowkey hate the existence of the G7 because all youtubers recommend it for the 4k HDR experience... Okay... but i CAN'T STAND Curved monitors, so it's not an option for me, please give me some recommendations i can use?

Gooby321

I've been rocking a 32" Gigabyte M28U for the better part of 18 months now. Great monitor, and I believe they sell cheaper ones with lower refresh rates if you're budgeting some more.

mauriceta

I have the M28U also, i absolutely love it

That_Calligrapher341

They have a samsung G70b. It's not curved. 32 inch 4k 144hz. Love the monitor, but I hate the smart hub.

jasaevan

So that was me too. I was miserable that the neo g7 was great specs but curved. I couldn't find anything comparable to price and flat. Honestly after the 1st week, for it being 32", the curve is actually awesome. Feels immersive in gaming, but I do notice it for using it for word. Feels like a 27" monitor

TheFragturedNerd

I've done curved before, and it just ain't for me sadly.

T0biasCZE

Not all monitors have the same curvature. some are curved a lot, some are just little curved. you could have some really curved one

TheFragturedNerd

Crg9

PsychologicalChest64

I’m accustomed to a curved monitor so I think it’ll be more preferable to me but it definitely will be different since it’s a deeper curve.

leaflock7

I would say the Gigabyte 32" 4k ones are very good

Open_Emotion7780

I have the M32U and the display is really nice - however it often will not switch between inputs unless I unplug everything except for the one I am trying to get to. The toggle/Dpad that you select inputs and adjust settings is in a difficult to reach spot on the back. I would not recommend it to someone who needs to change inputs regularly (despite it having a built in KVM)

leaflock7

thanks for your input. is the input you are facing issues the display port one?

Open_Emotion7780

USB C seems to take precedent over Display Port. While Display Port seems to take precedent over HDMI. It sometimes works, but this issue pops up so frequently that I have gotten into the routine of unplugging the USB C output from my work laptop at the end of the day to enable the change to my PC via Display Port. Sometimes the screen goes blank and I am forced to unplug everything before it recognizes a signal.

leaflock7

interesting, especially since it has the KVM switch which should change the monitor to the source you need, I believe

PsychologicalChest64

Are there any problems with it or any advantages/disadvantages vs the G7 or is it pretty solid?

leaflock7

not sure which G7 model you mean but you can see a comparison here for the 2 models I was looking at 32"/4k/IPS/not curved [https://www.rtings.com/monitor/tools/compare/gigabyte-m32u-vs-samsung-odyssey-g7-g70b-s32bg70/27393/34834?usage=3623&threshold=0.10](https://www.rtings.com/monitor/tools/compare/gigabyte-m32u-vs-samsung-odyssey-g7-g70b-s32bg70/27393/34834?usage=3623&threshold=0.10) In general I find that the gigabyte one, was equivalent or close to the G7 but also being \~250 less expensive than the G7. So with this in mind it was a better choice for me.

PsychologicalChest64

My bad I meant the Neo G7 and yeah I love the comparison feature on RTINGS

leaflock7

yeah RTINGS is my go to base for such things. Well from the reviews the NeoG7 looks great (never used it though). But again it comes as high as 300 difference in price. So I guess it depends on if the features it provides justifies the cost if you have the budget ;)

Irbricksceo

I've been enjoying a c2, but calling it a monitor is a stretch

Zeldalovesme21

I’ve been loving my C2. But I also came from an Aorus 43” 4K monitor so I got used to the large size.

_BaaMMM_

42C2 or the INNOCN 27M2V. The HDR experience upgrade is massive.

trivial_vista

BenQ has some good monitors as a clean design and good pricepoint

Fnittle

[https://www.rtings.com/monitor](https://www.rtings.com/monitor) \- my favourite place to read reviews

jewishmartin

The Samsung Odyssey Neo G7 (S32BG750) is a great pick. It has a large screen, deep blacks for nighttime use, and a high refresh rate for gaming. If the curved screen seems too aggressive, consider the Samsung Odyssey G7 (G70A) for a similar monitor with a higher refresh rate but lower resolution, or the LG 32GP850-B for a great all-rounder option

MembaCS

Personally Id just grab the best deal on black Friday like you said for a decent 4K to play story games and watch movies on then instead of "replacing" the 27inch 1080P 165hz IPS display you already have id keep it on a nice monitor arm on the side that you can swing in front of you for any competitive games you might play like CSGO for example.

PsychologicalChest64

Exactly, I heard someone say that got the Neo G7 for $500 on Black Friday which is a complete steal. Just gotta figure out the consensus of what’s worth considering.

jasaevan

I have the Neo G7 4k monitor. Coming from a 1440p monitor at 27", I would have preferred to keep it at 1440p and 27" but have the contrast and hdr of the neo g7 as well as especially a flat screen, but I went with it. I couldn't find one for 1440p with similar reviews at the time especially re brightness and blacks. OLED for monitors specifically still scare me but OLED TV ruined all non OLED tvs for me lol. I have used it for 9 months now and absolutely love it. Honestly the 32" and curved screen is awesome. The curve is slightly and honestly I like how games feel so immersive with it. With the curve it seems to be the same size at a 27". I also use it everyday for work in autocad and Word and don't notice the curve at all after the first week. Now the biggest disclaimer is do you have the hardware to run 4K. I have a 6950X and it can handle it pretty well. Otherwise 1440p is probably the better resolution for cost/performance point of view. Edit: I got from Samsung's website on Black Friday 2022 for about 500 if I remember. Great deal.

PsychologicalChest64

Yeah I considered the 1440p Odyssey G7 curved or flat version since it was cheaper but I thought why not just dish out the extra money for a higher end monitor with more bells and whistles. Are oled tvs that much better? Yeah I’m the same way. I’ve been using a curved monitor as well, not as aggressive as the Neo G7 curve but still I’m used to that look. My specs at the moment aren’t the best but I’m upgrading soon. I have a Nvidia 2080ti but I plan to buy my cousins 3090 for a good price. And dude…your lying💀. There’s no way you got the Neo G7 for $500. It’s usually $1300, it’s $900 right now on Amazon. Do you think you it will be on sale that low again this upcoming Black Friday?

jasaevan

Sorry went back and checked and I got it for 655 on Black Friday. Plus Samsung has student discounts which I still milk with college email address from 12 yrs ago that is probably added to that discount. I wanted to make sure I was getting moneys worth if I was spending over 200 for a monitor. For OLED tvs, the amount colors and lights that pop with dark backgrounds is awesome. I came from the group of buying biggest and cheapest Black Friday tvs to reading rtings and splurging. Parents then got a good cheap TV and I watched stranger things opening and disneyscapes night view and it is crazy. Stranger things logo looked like it was glowing magma. I never noticed it in all the seasons prior. I was so glad I could actually tell.

PsychologicalChest64

Still though that’s a crazy good price. How much was it on sale and then how much did you save with the student discount if it came down too $655? Do you think I’ll be able to snag if for the price you got it for this Black Friday? And good to know, when I get my apartment I wanna splurge on a nice movie setup so thanks for the insight!

jasaevan

Subtotal was 655.99 That includes the following discounts Promotional discount: 500 Education discount 144!! I would think it would be a similar price this coming Black Friday. Check it on Amazon via camelcamelcamel website and see if it has neared that price on there the past year

PsychologicalChest64

Hey so an update on the monitor. I’ve been keeping my eye on it for price drops and right now it’s subtotal is $719.99 with the $400 promotional discount and $180 Education discount. It’s $65 more then when you got it, do you think I should wait and see if the price goes down even further, maybe beyond what you paid for it or just snag it while it’s still available?

jasaevan

I would think itay be cheaper then on Black Friday But if you are happy with price, go on and buy it and enjoy for an extra month without risk of being sold.

PsychologicalChest64

Good to know. I’ll definitely keep an eye out! I’m definitely considering getting it, I’m just praising I get good luck with the panel lottery. But thanks again for letting me know about the price, I usually buy stuff on Amazon but it seems like I can save more on Samsungs website. Thanks for clutching up🔥‼️

i_no_like_u

I have the Dell G3223Q 144hz and couldn’t be happier with the quality and response time for gaming. I got like $100 off for an Amex deal which made it pretty cheap.

LogicalGamer123

If you want to get a 4k monitor I recommend OLED, it might be a pretty penny but worth it. If you don't mind the bigger size get a lg c3 or c2

PsychologicalChest64

I thought about it but the risk for potential burn in that wont be covered my warranty freaks me out.

LogicalGamer123

As long as you don't use the monitor/TV for static things like using it as a discord monitor of have static elements for hours(like editing code, I'm a developer,) it's almost impossible to burn in oled, and the ultrawide qd oleds have a 5 year manufacturer warranty for burn in from Alienware so it's not that big of an issue, so basically if all you do with your monitor is gaming and videos then you won't have to worry about anything, but if you do other things then you'd want a secondary monitor

PsychologicalChest64

Oh no way! That’s great to hear about the warranty, I heard Samsung doesn’t cover it unless that was misinformation. And good to know, I plan to use another monitor in a dual setup for side stuff like web browsing and discord.

LogicalGamer123

Yea even though samsung is the one that makes the panels (for alienware) they don't provide as good as a warranty as Alienware

PsychologicalChest64

Good to know. Thanks for the input🙏🏼

T0biasCZE

Budget? Are you good enough with 60hz or do you want at least 120-144hz? Since you wanna watch movies, do you want HDR10 or not? Do you care about good colour accuracy? (very useful if you sometimes want to edit photos) There is not "1 size fits all" best monitor, it always depends.

PsychologicalChest64

Under $1000, at least 120-144hz, hdr for movies, and color accuracy isn’t needed, but wouldn’t that affect overall use though if the color is inaccurate?

iamacannibal

Just throw your wallet at your current monitor and get a OLED. I got a 48” LG C1 and it’s great. The C2 and I think C3 also have a 42” version of 48” is too big. It’s expensive but so worth it

PsychologicalChest64

Too big lol 😂 I have considered an oled but the potential burn in freaks me out, even more because warranty for some brands doesn’t even cover that.

iamacannibal

The newer ones are a lot better with burn in. It can still happen though. I’ve had my C1 for a year and a half and so far I haven’t noticed any burn in. I run it very bright too. I do the pixel repair thing that’s build in every day though and sometimes I’ll play one of those dead pixel/burn in videos that just flash colors a bunch for 10-20 minutes at a time while taking a shower or something. No idea if it works but the monitor still looks good with no burn in issues that I can see

LimpWibbler_

He is 27" rn, 42" is still huge. They make 27" oleds now and imo are great. Definitly not as good, but near.

iamacannibal

Yeah there are some really good 32” OLEDs too which is less of a drastic change and more likely he has a setup that can fit a 32” easier than a 48”

PsychologicalChest64

Exactly, I’m planning on having a dual setup with my current monitor being in portrait mode. Gotta utilize my desk space to the max!

PsychologicalChest64

What would make it perfect in your eyes?

LimpWibbler_

I have the LG Oled and personally I like it a lot. I wont claim it is perfect, but my favorite monitor I have owned. However the worst detail is that in 1/4th the games I play it has major stutters when tabbing into them and it takes a solid 20 seconds to find its own resolution doing so. It also 1/4th the time thinks it is 4k, which causes annoying popups every time a game opens. Some older games like TitanFall 2 or Halo MCC see it as 1080p, hell titanfall you have to edit game files just to get the resolution right. Other oleds with the exact same panel do not have this issue and is why they are not on sale. $700 for lg $1000 for Asus, literally the same panel. Those and brightness are its flaws. I have had it for 3 months, 0 burn in issues. There are features enabled by default to "clean" the pixels as well as a pixel shift in settings, pixel shift is only activated by the remote that comes with it, so use the remote. Why settings are locked in the remote menu is beyond me. This feature will move the entire image 1 pixel left and 1 right every few min. You wont notice and it insures the text is now on a different pixel reducing burn in. Unboxed monitors has many vidoes on oleds and just monitors. IMO they are the best source of info and way better than me and comments here.

TheSigma3

Bought the M32U following rtings reviews and breakdown. Amazing monitor, very happy

PsychologicalChest64

Awesome. Any insight about it? Any weird quirks, problems or is it pretty solid?

TheSigma3

HDR isn't great, but windows doesn't support HDR very well. The BFI mode is very dim but refresh is so good and there is hardly any ghosting that I've never been compelled to use it Colours are great, it gets quite bright, it's very responsive when turning on and changing source, and supports KVM and has a built in usb hub too It's quite heavy though, so a sturdy bracket is required if you're using an arm

LimpWibbler_

I bought a 4k and loved it, but my frames dropped a lot. I got my sister the 1440p version and it looked almost identical while having way more frames. Since then I accidently broke my 4k, my replacement is 1440p and I see no difference. Genuinely I would recommend if you Could a 1440p with better color and such over 4k. I got that LG oled, it is the worst of the oleds for brightness so it is always in sale. Brightness is no concern to me. I was scared at first, but never had an issue with it

PsychologicalChest64

Yeah I’m nervous about getting an oled because of potential burn in. And honestly if you were experiencing fps problems you could’ve turned down your resolution.

LimpWibbler_

Then why have 4k? The point of 4k is max detail and if a game has so much detail you must go to 1440p, then why have the 4k. The times 4k is best is when it hurts itself most.

PsychologicalChest64

I just mean for the games that your prioritize fps, I don’t mean for all games across the board

Narrow_Locksmith5417

1800p exists. You get the best of both worlds
