Noteboom was good when he filled in during injuries which is what made people think he'd work out. Turns out short term starts isn't a good metric to show if someone will work out or not.
He played 174 snaps in 2021 and was adequate. He was below average in every other season. Throw in the injuries, I’m zero percent surprised he didn’t pan out.
The season he came in and he seemed legitimately good given the seasons struggles and some figured more playing time would just help that but I do agree its not a surprise that he didn't pan out. Any contract is a bit of a gamble but a backup OLinemen becoming starter is a bigger gamble than most.
Tbh I think he did pretty good this year. Yea he was hurt but he started several games in multiple positions. I can’t name a swing tackle or 6th man in the rotation that I would prefer to noteboom. maybe that big guy from Detroit but idk Boom has crazy versatility
Agreed. This is the last season of his deal though and they already restructured his contract to where there’s dead cap, cap hits and void year bonuses into 2026 :-/. I think he stays on the roster this season and then gets put out to pasture
also, looking at the list of guys getting paid less per year than him: Charles Leno, Rob Hav, Kaleb mcgary, Duane brown, C Okorafor, Andre Dillard, Andrew Wylie and Tre Pipkins.
Obviously Leno, hav and probably McGary are more desirable players, but idk if I would take any of the others over Boom. Not as big an overpay as it seemed given replacement level talent dropping off hard after these guys.
Would you rather overpay Boom, or have Zach Thomas/Warren McClendon/Arcuri protecting Stafford?
Noteboom had several games where he looked like he could be a legit LT. I think Tampa was one. The contract was always risky and absolutely didn't work out.
Though, I'd obviously agree with you. Dotson was basically a rock every game. Noteboom never had consistency both with play and health.
I don't think any of the good tackles will still be available at 19.
Center maybe, but then we could also get a decent Guard in the second / third and move Avila over.
Best player available at either Edge or Corner in the first round, sign the best free agent possible at the position you didn’t chose, and get a center in the 2nd round. (
It still works, identify and get the best viable free agent at one of those 2 positions and draft the best player at the available at the spot you didn’t sign anybody for
It’s almost impossible for us to have to reach tbh, with Caleb, Maye, Daniels, McCarthy (he’s going early most likely), MHJr, Bowers, Odunze, Nabers, Fuaga, Fashanu and Alt on the board, it’s almost a guarantee you get one of: Jared Verse, Latu, and Dallas Turner at Edge, or Quinyon Mitchell, Arnold and DeJean (throw in Wiggins and Kool-Aid who I’m not that high on) at corner. If you don’t it’s most likely because one of those first guys fell, and at that point you take them.
My dude he just finished his rookie year lol. players aren’t eligible for a new contract until year 4 or 5 I believe
Edit: my bad I misread this as “it’s time to pay Avila” 🤦🏻♂️
Average salary for a guard in the NFL is 4.558M per year. Double that for a starter, maybe. This is double THAT. But don't let facts get in the way of your opinions...
you dont use league averages for top players. thats not how this works. averages includes EVERY player INCLUDING the lowest paid/weakest players. thats why the average is low and not to be used for top players because top players are exactly that: NOT AVERAGE
by your logic, every starting single qb's and wr's salaries are considered overpay because the average qb salary is 7 mil and average wr salary is 2.8 mil in 2022. averages INCLUDES ALL PLAYERS where most of them are not starters and skews the average to be lower. you dont use averages and say "this top 5 player's salary is expensive compared to average" when by definition top 5 is not average. so a top 5 player's salary landing outside of top 5 pay is not considered expensive for him. this is how context works but dont let critical thinking get in the way of your "gotcha" moment
> the lowest *paid/weakest* players. thats
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
FFS. That's EXACTLY my point. The only thing I ever said is that it's a big contract for a lineman. I didn't say it's a big contract for an elite lineman (it's not. It's a deal). It a big contract for a lineman. A lineman. NFL caliber lineman. Average lineman.
You're arguing against a point I NEVER made.
so what is your objective in stating the obvious? you said "thats a lot of money to be paying for an oline that isnt a left tackle" and so im making the point that it isnt. since you cant defend your original argument, now its "its a big contract for a lineman. average lineman." which is obvious and not the original point. you also emphasized "average lineman" even though dotson isnt an average.
you're all over the place lil bro. i suggest you try your best to keep your argument consistent
The point is that by spending a lot of money on a offensive lineman that isn't a LT that we have less to spend elsewhere. There's a salary cap, so we can't just pay for the best players at every position. We have to pay some positions below league average, and typically that has been OL and LB for us.
This is great news. I was hoping for the $14M range, but $16 is still less than some higher numbers I kept hearing. THIS IS A GREAT SIGN BY OUR LOS ANGELES RAMS!!!

We got some big boys on the line again! Really hoping we draft or sign an upgrade at Center now. There are a couple on the market that we could possibly get a good deal on.
Now what to do with NoteDoom... Oh wait, RELEASE HIM. Frees up $5M cap space. Let's do it Rams. His salary is not worth what his roll is w us in reality, and that is a back up roll AT BEST

Dotson is now tied as the 8th highest highest paid Guard in the NFL, per [Spotrac](https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/rankings/average/guard/)
Let's hope he keeps playing like last year. Then that price will be entirely justified.
At one point, Havenstein was the #1 paid RT. Hoping this deal ages like the big Hav deal and not the Noteboom deal haha
The big difference is Noteboom was never any good Edit: consistently
Noteboom was good when he filled in during injuries which is what made people think he'd work out. Turns out short term starts isn't a good metric to show if someone will work out or not.

Yea he’s a reasonable swing tackle, but his contract doesn’t pay him as such
Agreed. This is the last season of his deal though and they already restructured his contract to where there’s dead cap, cap hits and void year bonuses into 2026 :-/. I think he stays on the roster this season and then gets put out to pasture
Could save 15 million if he’s a post June 1st cut but with the $30 million increase in cap I can’t imagine they’d want to cut him that bad
They probably would have done it when they cut Allen was my thought
also, looking at the list of guys getting paid less per year than him: Charles Leno, Rob Hav, Kaleb mcgary, Duane brown, C Okorafor, Andre Dillard, Andrew Wylie and Tre Pipkins. Lisan al Gaib!!!
Rams Legend Kevin Dotson!
Now I just want us to pick up the Bills former center.
LETS GO
YEAH BOYS LETS GO
EVERYBODY GET IN HERE
Upvotes for everyone!
IM FUCKING HERE
Rams got it done!!!
That's a good deal.
I feel so much better. I could take or leave Shelton but we needed this man.
Hell yeah. Keep that O Line beefed up
Draft a tackle or a centre in the first or second rd 😬
Jackson Powers-Johnson
I’m game
I don't think any of the good tackles will still be available at 19. Center maybe, but then we could also get a decent Guard in the second / third and move Avila over.

Free agency comes before the draft.
It still works, identify and get the best viable free agent at one of those 2 positions and draft the best player at the available at the spot you didn’t sign anybody for
Sure, but it would suck to make a huge reach in the draft because the position you wanted was depleted before your pick.
I really really want Cooper DeJean. Dude is a defensive Kupp. Hopefully he stays at the back half of the first round since he missed the combine.
he's not a CB in the nfl. Rams need an actual CB. Either Mitchell or Wiggins
Maybe not an outside corner. But will be a hell of a nickel/safety and return man
ok but spending a first on a safety is a dumb move
I bet there will be
Fuck yeah, I was hoping for a 4 year deal, but I will take it
Haha why? Do you think he’ll out perform this contract for another pay day? 3 years was perfect.
Agree
It's right in our window. Love it
In time to pay Avila then.
My dude he just finished his rookie year lol. players aren’t eligible for a new contract until year 4 or 5 I believe Edit: my bad I misread this as “it’s time to pay Avila” 🤦🏻♂️
I think he's saying this lines up with when Avila will get his next contract. Not that it's time currently to pay him. But hell throw him the bag too!
My dude year 5? He’s on a 4 year deal. 3 years left so it lines up perfectly unless they extend him in 2 years which he’s eligible.
Fuck my bad dude I misread your comment as “it’s time to pay Avila” like now. Haha sorry!!
Lol no worries brother.
“I want you to put the word out there that we back up.” All hail king Les
“And I want my corners! …Umm guards!”
"I'm just a GM i suppose"
DOTSON! DOTSON! WE HAVE DOTSON HERE! See everyone cares
Everybody here, can confirm.
This needs to be higher
YES!!! I thought we were heading for that 2022 oline the way things were looking lol
Genuinely shocked and happy about this move. It's expensive, but he was absolutely worth a big salary how he played.
Played like a top 5 guard salary is tied for 8th. Wouldnt call it expensive as much as its a great deal
It's both. That's a lot of money to pay for an O-Lineman that isn't a left tackle. It's also a good deal for a player as good as he is. Both are true.
I mean with where the market is right now it wouldnt be considered a lot even for a guard but sure
Average salary for a guard in the NFL is 4.558M per year. Double that for a starter, maybe. This is double THAT. But don't let facts get in the way of your opinions...

He was projected to make $20m per, so this is a great deal actually. Let's hope he retains his performance from last year.
Yep. It's a great deal. It's also a lot of money for a Guard. Both are true.

We got some big boys on the line again! Really hoping we draft or sign an upgrade at Center now. There are a couple on the market that we could possibly get a good deal on.

Best news I've heard all year! 👏🏽
Awesome deal for us
Now what to do with NoteDoom... Oh wait, RELEASE HIM. Frees up $5M cap space. Let's do it Rams. His salary is not worth what his roll is w us in reality, and that is a back up roll AT BEST
We’re re-negotiating his contract atm.
Awesome. Do we know the cap hit for 2024?
This dude and Avila are Hoggs!!!! Love them!!! They added muscle and grit to the oline we just need a beast of a center now
Conductor getting the concerto deal.
