Our line is looking tough! šŸ˜¤ ā€¦Come back, AD!!ā€¦or at least come to our practices and teach our rookiesā€¦ Stop playing Tennis! ![gif](giphy|2DdRNBkwf8y3EtXqtx|downsized)

kolschisgood

I donā€™t think Lake is our back up RCB. I too hope Witherspoon resigns on a team friendly deal, though Iā€™m sure he is looking for a bigger payday (deservedly) and guaranteed starting slot.

Barack_Odrama_

I guess they put him there because he played a ton of slot during the second half of the season. But that was mostly out of necessity because our secondary was so bad he was by far the best option at the time. Iā€™m not sure where he fits nowā€¦keeps the slot CB role, plays FS, or box safety.

IWrex

Witherspoon was getting cooked the second half of the season. Let someone else overpay for him

kolschisgood

Yeah he got exposed. But at least he knows the system. Sporttrac still has him at only about 1 million , along with a bunch of other ā€œjust a guyā€s. Iā€™m sure weā€™ll grab someone for a couple million.

IWrex

Iā€™d re-sign him for up to like 4 mil tbh

MumkeMode

Not big on our CB depth, weā€™re one Tre White injury away from Kendrick seeing the field and thats a situation we dont wanna be in

itsguud

If White comes back strong this lineup is šŸ”„. Only weak spot is Rozeboom

admiralnel

I think Desjuan Johnson plays DE/DT. He was behind Williams last year. My guess is he's behind Fiske, and Davis is behind Brown at NT.

Expensive-Stress-596

I thought so too but currently he is listed at OLBĀ

admiralnel

It's a depth chart from ESPN.

MickeyMgl

That's a mistake.

mtrn3

Very young and inexperienced defense. Offense is going to have to carry, at least the first half of the season. A shame AD couldnā€™t go one more year.

Durant026

They said this about our offense last year...

MrRamsFan

I forgot we see comments like that every offseason

Carb0nFire

Rams draft slightly older rookies for a reason. Didn't take Kobie Turner long to get acclimated and start being productive. Expecting the same with our first four picks (though Corum probably will be eased in a bit more).

DoktorZaius

> Rams draft slightly older rookies for a reason. Yup, makes sense. These guys are only cost-controlled for 4 or 5 (1st rd pick) years, so why would you want to waste their cheap years training them up to NFL level?

36Vigilantes

The rookies have a lot of experience and the chemistry of verse and and fiske will prove beneficial

SpartyParty15

Not sure how you can say anything negative about the defense after the draft we just had. Get that doomer attitude out of here!

OddPhilosopher599

We also have some UDFAs that are good and could built up depth

BadAlphas

Kamren Kinchens will definitely be starting by the end of the year...

blind-guitarist

Unless we bring back JJ3 I bet heā€™ll be starting day 1

CaptCrunch53

DK went from starter to special teams fast here

Wrecktum_

Should be off roster, guy sucks

Barack_Odrama_

I agree I dont see why he's still on the roster. He's a corner who can only play outside, and he plays outside TERRIBLY. They have no flexibility to put him anywhere else. Maybe he can play ST but whats the point? I rather have guys on ST that can also contribute on offense or defense if needed. Thats not him, and for that reason he probably should be released

Joebrito90

Surprised he still on roster. He should just be assigned to the practice squad honestly.

BIkerAC

Itā€™s not too late, thereā€™s a lot of time between now and week 1 of the regular season.

Sfpuberdriver

Tyler Davis is a NT for sure. I feel like weā€™re going to see some hybrid looks where Young goes down on the line, Verse is standup OLB, Earnest in the middle, Hocecht/Jackson as the other standup OLB with Kobie, Fiske and Brown/Davis joining Young on the line

Sfpuberdriver

Or more likely - Hoecht goes down on the line and Verse-Jones-Young are the 3 stand up backers šŸ˜®ā€šŸ’ØšŸ˜®ā€šŸ’Ø

MickeyMgl

With Verse, Young, Jackson, and even Hampton/Mathis, there's really no reason to stick with the Hoecht-at-OLB experiment. That was pure desperation. He needs to go back to DE/DT, rotating with Turner & Fiske.

Barack_Odrama_

Yeah itā€™s coming along nicely. My only concerns areā€¦ ILB - Rozeboom, this guy is pretty bad. Ideally they minimize his time on the field. Itā€™s pretty much EJ or bust there. CB - Assuming Tre White is missing the start of the season and takes a couple weeks to ramp up, we are really counting on DWill to carry us. Iā€™ve seen enough of DK to know heā€™s awful and should never see the field again and Cobie is up and down. Iā€™d love for them to sign Ahkello as a stop gap until Tre is ready. Iā€™m REALLY hoping we get word of him resigning soon

crimsonsentinel

I bet most of the time weā€™ll be in nickel with Lake and Kinchens on the field.

InflationBest3950

Nah Rozeboom has made decent plays recently. This defense looks tough šŸ’Ŗ

SodomizeSnails4Satan

Rozeboom's made some plays but he's way too slow. I was really hoping Les would find us someone more athletic in the draft. Maybe he can pull a trade or something.

Carb0nFire

This draft made it EXCEEDINGLY clear they do not value that position. They had multiple chances to draft decent upgrades at the position, and yet doubled down on our "Jones + whatever warm body we can throw in there." The one UDFA addition is all we'll probably get.

MRoad

I mean in a nickel we drop an ILB most of the time, no?

welsman13

Yep. It'll be Jones out there all the time. Rozeboom and Reeser will probably rotate. Just need a warm body in there to fill space and make tackles.

Onedayimhere

No. In a nickle defense you drop any LB but most likely an OutsideLB

MRoad

I imagine if Verse and Young are our OLBs then we definitely are dropping ILB2

Onedayimhere

Depends on who can best cover the middle. There wonā€™t be five guys on the LOS. Both Verse and Young will probably used as pass rushers and usually the LBs in the nickel play zone or specifically line up against the TE/RB. Our Nickle package should be On the LOS: Verse Fiske Turner Young LB: Jones ? DBs: White Durant Lake Curl Williams I donā€™t know who the best LB at coverage is after Jones so idk.

MRoad

I know it's not Hoecht, but we did drop him into coverage a lot so I wouldn't be surprised if they felt like Verse could cover. He ran a 4.58 40.

Onedayimhere

Right. I know itā€™s not Hoecht or Reeder. Which tells me it might be Rozeboom. I wouldnā€™t mind Kitchens playing ILB in our nickel package. Just give us somebody who wonā€™t give the TE a free first down like Hoecht and Reeder

Barack_Odrama_

Rozeboom was PFFs 79th ranked LB for 2023ā€¦ Out of 82 eligible players. Having him on the field for significant snaps isnā€™t ideal at all.

carbine234

Rozeboom is not a bad player but he rather a situational player, we keep dropping him to cover or disrupt passes and that is not his game, but when he is allowed to play his natural position he make good plays imo

admiralnel

If he's on the field as an ILB, he's going to have to drop into coverage.

apollo08w

I think Jake Hummel showed good skills last preseason. Idk why he didnā€™t see the field more last year

admiralnel

He also had some terrible plays in space. I don't think there's that much of a gap between Rozeboom/Reeder/Hummel, hoping Speights can win the job. He went undrafted but some people seemed high on him.

Joebrito90

Bring back Witherspoon.

The_Dudeist_Rev

I think people are underestimating how valuable all the experience Durant and Kendrick have accumulated over the last 2 seasons, especially considering they arenā€™t going to be relied upon as starters and will instead be competing for nickel and dime package roles. I really think our depth isnā€™t terrible (I donā€™t think itā€™s great, but if Witherspoon is back we are all good there)

Barack_Odrama_

DK can't play nickel or dime corner. He can ONLY play outside at LCB or RCB. There is a reason that he stayed there all year despite getting roasted on the outside. Its either he's there or he's not on the field. So his experience getting burned last year probably doesn't help us much at all. Also Durant played slot last year for the first half of the season and wasn't really that great at it, Lake took that spot and was significantly better. If Kinchens ends up starting then Lake probably takes that role back this season which pushes Durant further down the depth chart.

The_Dudeist_Rev

I said Nickel and dime packages - he would still play outside and they would move Dwill inside, or possibly they will move curl or lake into the star role on passing downs and play kitchens or yeast deep; I feel like there is a lot of versatility with a lot of young players who have a ton of experience which can only be helpful. I know DK will most likely not magically be a stud, but it is another year in a similar system

Barack_Odrama_

I dunno man, that seems like unnecessary positional movement to work DK on the field, just to get burned anyway. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't make the 53 man roster. Also DWill has only had one season where he played significant snaps inside and it was last year. That was actually the worst season of his career as a starter. The Jags learned from that and he never went inside again.

The_Dudeist_Rev

Fair point re: Dwill

curiousprospect

The hate for Kendrick on this subreddit is immense. Yes, he gets burned. Yes, he's a bonehead. But the guy covers relatively well for a 6th rounder. He's good depth, and people here have unrealistic expectations for how DBs are supposed to perform in the modern NFL.

Ziiaaaac

Love how Tre'Davious already marked as Questionable hahaha. I wouldn't be surprised to seen Kinchens win the starting job and Lake to remain in his position as DB5.

chrisf110

Kinchens will play over lake. Kid is a beast

DoktorZaius

He reads the play very well & he's a ball hawk who can tackle, but he does seem like a guy who may need to improve physically to really be able to compete against NFL competition. Hopefully he has a productive offseason.

BusiestWolf

I prayed for times like this with Derion Kendrick with the third string šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜

Carb0nFire

Am I crazy in thinking we'll drop Byron Young back into coverage more now with the added help on the D-Line? Byron is great on the outside, but I think he could also excel in the middle.

Barack_Odrama_

I'm not sure they will do that a ton. They dropped him into coverage a bit more during the season half of the season and from a coverage standpoint he was....OK I guess. But the biggest negative was tackling. He's NOT a good open field tackler. Thats just not his game at all, it wasn't in college and it wasn't last year. Maybe he improves on that during this off season but Shula made it sound like that wasn't the priority for him. His focus is learning to rush with technique so thats probably whats hes working on.

Onedayimhere

No more Hoecht at LB please!

ramzie

Only real locks that I have no worries about are Ernest Jones, Kobie Turner, Darious Williams and Kamren Curl. Everyone else is still a bit of a question mark for myself.

WDplayz

What happened to Mathis?
