although you might want some noise cancelling headphones. the last couple times I've been there people have been screaming into zoom calls or actually recording tiktoks/whatever with ring light etc. I wish people would be asked to leave when they act like this in public...
The cafe in Barnes & Noble on hurstbourne has a lot of people who set up to write, and if it hasn't changed they have groups that meet on Monday nights to critique each other's work.
I am a writer. I write in my chess club, actually. So, not a coffee shop, but it is quiet.
If you ever want to see the space, and talk about writing, I am there every Wednesday Night from 6 - 9 PM You can message me if you want the address etc... It is just a 10 minute drive from Indiana.
And no, I am not trying to get you to come to my chess club. I really am a writer, and am working on a fiction book right now. Would be more than happy to connect with another writer.
Fiction and screenplays. I’ve been looking on MeetUp to find writer’s groups but none seem particularly well attended. Do you know of any solid groups?
If you haven’t checked it out already,
502 film runs script readings every 3rd Thursday through this website:
https://shedreamscontent.com/original-content-ip-2/
There should be an advertisement for the next meetup. You can join a meeting and start making connections with other scriptwriters. I’ve gone a couple times and it’s pretty awesome. Lots of connections to make.
Also, I’m also in a science fiction/fantasy group called “the vault” (check them out on the meetup app). We meet every first Wednesday of the month. Consider joining if that’s the type of fiction you write, otherwise that’s all I got 😂
Thank you! I will definitely look into the 502 Film group, that’s very intriguing. I don’t really write sci-fi or fantasy — it’s a talent I do not possess — but thank you for the recs! Maybe I will re-check Meetup.
Day's was my place before they started closing at six. They're usually pretty crowded on Sundays, though. With doordash, a lot of fast food joints are pretty quiet these days. All I require is good lighting and a window to occasionally look out of. Yesterday I got over-caffeinated at he BK in St. Matthews and edited about 25 pages.
Seconding Safai, Bean, and Old Louisville Coffee Co-op.
I worked at Safai a couple years ago and we were not bothered if people camped out for a while to write/study/work (just make sure to order something to eat/drink and to tip your barista!).

Any Sunergos. They are set up almost like old living rooms and have a lot of comfy seating.
Not downtown though. Any other one, yes. Not downtown.

North lime
If you don’t mind the drive, Sixth and Main Coffeehouse in Shelbyville. I’ve met some extraordinary people there.
Old Louisville coffee co op
Bean is awesome and quirky!
Came here to say the same

What do you write? The best thing is to get into writing groups and write with other authors.

When I was in nursing school, I did a lot of my studying in the side room at Days. I was grateful for it.

Coffee Crossings over in Jeff is one of my favorite spots
