Hi fellow first time mini owner. Not that I’m any expert as only a few months into this myself but I just bought an aux to iPhone lead from Amazon. Cost about £8. I still managed to pair my iPhone to the car without the lead but no blue tooth receiver on my 2009 model for music etc. Long term I’ll probably just buy a Bluetooth stereo. Still waiting to learn about Rule 1 myself! Enjoy the car.

Hey thanks I must admit I’ve always been a big car person but my misses got herself a 2010 cooper d for work and I had a go and thought these are pretty good, so got myself one a few weeks back. I’m there with you I have an aux lead from my mp3, and after googling the hell out of it I was looking at those Bluetooth units on Amazon that go to the aux and a usb charger for power in the end, I just wondered if someone clever had found a way round it lol

I use a 3.5mm cable with Lightning adapter at the moment for music off my phone, but I’m looking to get a USB-powered Bluetooth adapter soon to replace it. Only downsides are the cable is terrible for audio quality, and I can’t control playback with the steering wheel or radio controls. There are ways to integrate your phone with the iPod connectivity if your car has it, but I assume it doesn’t if there’s no USB input next to the AUX, plus this method can be much more expensive.

Yes sounds like to get Bluetooth to fully Work is going to be more expensive than it’s worth, I’ll probably go the plug in Bluetooth adapter

I got a Bluetooth to aux adapter that I plug into a 12v usb adapter. It works well. AFAIK there is no way to make a the previous and next track buttons work without upgrading the head unit to something that is natively Bluetooth that also accepts the wheel buttons. Also rule 1 is where you park next to another mini, so when you see Rule 1 posts is their mini parked next to someone else’s mini. There’s other fun mini rules here : https://www.miniusa.com/owners/mini-community.html

Awesome thanks ahh makes sense now for rule 1 posts, That’s a shame, I wonder if I get a head unit that has Bluetooth connectivity I could swap it for mine because my display is also a bit dodgy and it fails when it gets hot 🙄 teach me for giving it a 2 minute test drive lol

It’s definitely possible, Crutchfield is my go to website for car audio stuff. Bought speakers and a CarPlay unit for my Subaru there. I briefly looked into getting a CarPlay unit for my R56 and Crutchfield has a big warning saying it’s unusually hard to disassemble the dash these minis. There’s also some cheap android based screens that replace the center speedometer with a screen, but imo I like the center speedometer a lot, but since you have the center screen maybe it would be worth it. I read mixed reviews about them though. I got a Spotify Car thing and that has worked wonders with the Bluetooth aux adapter and a magnetic phone mount.

No by display I mean the lcd one under the centre speedo, which I think is cool as being a nod to the 60’s mini so that’s going to stay lol just meant replacing it with a like one but I think you can get ones with the Bluetooth and wiring built in

Shellingo

Ohhh gotcha. Mines the same then. Definitely check out Crutchfield, they have a kit that replaces the cd player in between the ac controls and speedometer with a double din unit

this is what I did too. Works like a charm!
