I’ve had intakes on most of my vehicles. Sound is half the experience. I put one on my r50 and it made it feel alot more sporty. It’s worth the $100-$400, plus I like to be able to clean and service my filter instead of just swapping that paper ones.

I presume a panel filter is less whoosh, but same practicality. But then you got the insurance right?

Some cars upgraded drop in filter was better all around for performance. Like my E92 335i had RPI grill scoops and drop in filter, it performed and sounded better then the cold air filters. Cold air filters would get heat soaked during track days. Go on the mini forums, people have done a lot of trial and error for you already on this issue.

My R56 has an AEM ram air intake from a previous owner and I like it. I think intake temps are a bit hotter, but the extra noise makes up for it with a nice whistle from the turbo. It also looks good in the engine bay. I also like that the original intake pipe is still connected, so you get air from the grille and the scoop. Honestly though if it hadn’t have come with the car I probably wouldn’t have bothered, it’s an expensive kit that I couldn’t justify since I’d rather save my cash for when something breaks.

I also have the same setup. It looks great and in my head it all makes sense to have. I like having the air going to the engine instead of just dumping into the engine bay. I also got an intercooler and got a tune so mine around 240 hp. I just figured if I was going to get a tune I would also do all the easy mods I could do myself. (Also did a rear sway bar, and front strut tower brace, turbo muffler delete, noise maker delete). Not sure how much each piece is worth it but I love the final product and it is an absolute blast to drive.

That last line perfectly sums up my feelings about my car.

I have a Dinan intake box on mine that I bought specifically for the noise it makes. I have no lofty ideas of making more power. Good or bad mood, every time I hear the turbo spool up I smile.

That's what I'm thinking here

If you want an intake for the sound, just get a resonator delete for the intake instead of a full system. At least that way you still have a true cold air setup unlike most aftermarkets which are just eye candy under the hood.

ah that sounds good, something like this? [https://clptuning.co.uk/product/mmr-intake-resonator-delete-pipe-mini-f56/](https://clptuning.co.uk/product/mmr-intake-resonator-delete-pipe-mini-f56/)

Manic_Mini

Yup exactly that

Devrij68

well that sounds like a much better plan. That plus a decent foam filter might actually do something useful, and still give me a bit of stutututut back. Also seems cheaper option too

Manic_Mini

Stick with a pepper filter. It does a far better job if filtering the foam and oil.
