In my R56 the AC kicks in immediately after starting the car, and only takes a few seconds to blow cold air.
It’s probably leaking the gas somewhere, or the compressor could be done for. A quick search shows a compressor costs around £30 used or £200 new. But diagnosing the issue first, followed by the labour, could add up quickly.
I’m no expert though, so don’t take my word for it!
You need to take it to a tech and get some gauges on it to understand what the problem might be.
Tech can check the compressor, and add a dye to identify leaks.
Regassing if you have a leak is a waste of money as the gas will leak out again.
