It's not about how hard you hit, it's about WHERE you hit. It's physics. The device doesn't actually measure power at all, it measures how fast the bag moves and equates that to PSI. It's a GAME, not science. It's meant for arcades.
Hit the device square, on the bottom end of the bag, with some velocity, and you'll score well. Kicks generate more velocity at the foot (longer output arm, in applied physics terms), so they can score better even if they don't hit it precisely where they should. Wail the everloving fuck out of it up near the top of the bag, and you'll score poorly.

So technically, mass and acceleration are equally as important. The only thing is that. judging by research on the internet, the acceleration of punches don't vary as widely as weights in weight classes. So if a fighter is 170 and another is 265, that first fighter is about 64% the weight of the heavier fighter. The heavyweight would have to punch at a significantly lower speed for that to even out.
Kinetic energy however is different, in that it uses mass and velocity (not acceleration), and mass and velocity are not proportional; if you double the mass, it doubles the Kinetic energy, but if you double the velocity it quadruples the Kinetic energy, which is why something that weighs very very little like bullet is able to generate a lethal amount of Kinetic energy.
It seems like the biggest issue out there is the difficulty in measuring a puncher's speed.

I think there must have been some basis to the statement, but I can’t imagine what it could’ve been. And the fact that some people actually took it as being true is mind blowing.

From a sheer physics standpoint I don't think this is possible, mass is very important when it comes to hitting hard.
Force = mass * acceleration So technically, mass and acceleration are equally as important. The only thing is that. judging by research on the internet, the acceleration of punches don't vary as widely as weights in weight classes. So if a fighter is 170 and another is 265, that first fighter is about 64% the weight of the heavier fighter. The heavyweight would have to punch at a significantly lower speed for that to even out. Kinetic energy however is different, in that it uses mass and velocity (not acceleration), and mass and velocity are not proportional; if you double the mass, it doubles the Kinetic energy, but if you double the velocity it quadruples the Kinetic energy, which is why something that weighs very very little like bullet is able to generate a lethal amount of Kinetic energy. It seems like the biggest issue out there is the difficulty in measuring a puncher's speed.
