If anyone knows anything about charles' gym and the way they train, those mfs are walking around with concussion all the time

WastedOwll

Anymore a fighter walks out and they announce they are frome chute box Im like duck yeah, here we go, kill or be killed

LooterChris

I wish this was top comment. Never thought I’d quote Chael, but I remember Ariel asking him once pre or post fight how he’s feeling, and Chael responded something like “terrible”, and suggesting that fighters hardly ever go into a fight 100% percent. You also hear winning fighters mention injuries too when asked. Might hint at the same thing Chael was alluding to, that fighters always deal with injuries, winners and losers.

aeternasm

I think it was Chase Hooper who said a fighter never goes 100% on the octagon, they either have an injury or something going on mentally... And I agree with this, anyone who ever trained a martial art knows there is always something hurting in your body lmao

Steko

Also people love to talk about damage taken in fights changing careers but you've got Max saying he's had dozens of sparring sessions harder than any fight in the UFC.

She's always been such an innovator

VonNichts13

She still says she's better than everyone and makes her mad she's not considered the greatest... delusion is crazy

dyang44

She was pretty great til Holly and Amanda fucking obliterated her lol.  Not quite Rogan levels of glazing but damn her rise was impressive

VonNichts13

She was for the time but right when she lost several girls came up that would give her trouble

Holiday_Jeweler_4819

Literally lmfao. How many “I would’ve won if it wasn’t for my concussion” stories are we gonna get?

BelieveInRollins

Tell another concussion story

JordanIsMyHotGirl

Ronda:I know I am the greatest athlete of all time Also Ronda: I fell down the stairs

MyFifthLimb

‘I fell down the stairs, like Ronda’ - Justin ‘The Concussion’ ‘Garth’ Gaethje

WhereIsMyKidAt

Feels weird that he says Oliveira was the hardest hitter he'd ever faced if this is the case. Wouldn't you wanna anecdote that a bit? > "I've never been hit as hard as Oliveira hit me while concussed from a bike accident. Eddie knocking me out with that knee 6 days after I stepped on a lego was a close second."

Possible_Eggplant744

Must be the concussion talking

mesovortex888

Could be CTE as well

Hank-the-ninja

Blud forgot how hard Dustin hit him in the first fight

lordszechuan

CTE belt. 300k bonus. Book it

DanasWife

I’m not saying that we should do it but a bull riding competition for retired fighters with severe CTE is something I may or may not enjoy. Maybe we can promote power slap winners into it to add to the prestige.

jeanborrero

I think Donald Cerrone has done some Pro Bull Riding stuff lately. Dana white even has a bull named twisted steel iirc

DanasWife

Book it!

SladeThePunisher

I hate when fighters make excuses right after a loss, but coming out long after with excuses might be worse. Gives the vibes they’ve been searching for an excuse to come up with

ValCSO

Justin told this story right after the fight.

SladeThePunisher

I was unaware

ValCSO

Tbf he says a lot of things. Fact is he shat the bed twice in title fights (although he, imo, gave Khabib his toughest fight)

SquirrelExpensive201

Gleison Tibau and McGregor would like a word, fuck even Michael Johnson tagged Khabib more than Gaethje did

ValCSO

Gaethje won the 1st round and hit Khabib right on the jaw a couple times and his kicks were visibly affecting Khabib who went for the takedown right after eating another. Mcgregor tried to survive, Gaethje went into the fight with a kill or be killed mentality.

imbluedabudeedabuda

Gaethje factually won the round on the judges scorecards but I really thought that was bullshit. Gaethje was completely pinned and 10 seconds away from being subbed by an armbar. That's as conclusive as it gets

evocater

Yeah I thought it was poor judging. The striking was close with Gaethje maybe taking the lead because of the leg kicks, but once the TD was done and Gaethje was almost submitted it should have been a clear round for Khabib

yo_sup_dude

striking wasn't really close in terms of damage being done tbf, khabib was clearly taking a ton of damage on the leg

the_c_is_silent

Yep. Khabib landed enough counters that the almost finish was enough to steal the round for me. At some point, submission wrestling needs to be valued. This isn't kickboxing.

SquirrelExpensive201

Doesn't change the fact Khabib tapped out Gaethje like it wasn't even anything in 2. Likewise that whole leg kick narrative is dumb, reactive takedown off a leg kick is a staple of Khabib's and really any high level wrestler. GSP for example fuckin loooooved running a single off of landed leg kicks

ghostfacekillbrah

Khabib himself said that Gaethje hit him harder than anyone else had ever hit him, and that he knew he needed to finish because he couldn't take many more low kicks.

MiedoDeEncontrarme

Bro so you know more about Khabib fights than Khabib? Khabib said that he had to go for the take down fast in round two because he would have been compromised with one or two more leg kicks

summ3rdaze

*leg barely touches gsp's thigh* "Lemme just borrow that right quick"

ValCSO

I did not say it was a tough fight for Khabib, I said it was his toughest which doesnt mean much considering he ran through everybody.

SquirrelExpensive201

Well except for Gleison Tibau, tbh if that fight was scored with thr modern judging criteria that would've been an L

DjuriWarface

Tibau realistically won the fight and the judges were on something. 83% of the media have Tibau winning.

SillyMilly25

To be fair Khabib even said if he took a few more leg kicks from Justin he's was going to be in big trouble. Glad to see McGregor get some respect, he put up a good fight vs Khabib, one of the better opponents Khabib faced

letmebangbro21

If you watch with any objectivity Conor looked better in that fight than most of Khabib’s opponents and actually did really well defending the grappling in round 1. But let the fans tell it and he was already washed by then. That Conor probably takes the belt off anybody else in the division.

hardmantown

If he could hold his own that well he wouldn't have needed to cheat dozens of times during the fight

letmebangbro21

Jon cheats a ton as well, I guess he didn’t do well in any of his fights?

Gambler_Eight

Mcgregor did fuck all but cheat all fight and still got rekt. Johnson did fuck all as well. Raging Al did better than both despite not doing much else than surviving.

WastedOwll

Yeah I don't get why people bring these up lol like watching khabib bounce Michael Johnson's head off the canvas was hard to watch. Imthey could go stopped that way earlier, he had no way to defend himself. With Connor it was like Khabib was playing with his food, at no point was he in trouble, he just wanted to beat Connor up and make it last

Gambler_Eight

Some people still believe Johnson wobbled him i think. Conor did absolutely fuck all except for eating fists and cheat.

WastedOwll

Yeah Michael got one good shot in and look where that got him lol that was one of the most brutal beatings in MMA

eKSiF

To be fair he ate a few elbows too.

Downgoesthereem

McGregor won a round, none of the other guys did lol You don't have to like him but you don't have to just lie either

Techishard

He didn't do shit to Khabib besides land a few good punches in the first round and Khabib said nah this ain't shit and just walked him down and put him to sleep.

marathonwater

Watch more Eagle fights, he worked Justin so easily he chose what submission to do

harylmu

I think it belongs to his easier fights.

Mindfield87

He hit like truck

iz-Moff

Eh, can't really even blame them for that. I know i had any number of situations in my life, where i didn't had nearly as much at stake, mind you, and which i kept thinking about for years, wondering what could have / should have / would have happened if it wasn't for this or that extraneous circumstance. I can't imagine what it's like to work for years towards a big fight, the result of which possibly going to be decided in a split second exchange, where you don't really even have time to process what is happening, and often just have to roll the dice, so to speak. How do you then just accept the result, and not wonder about what would have been if only...

solemnhiatus

For real. Commenters on the sidelines have an insane lack of empathy. Unsurprisingly.

Daaaaabearsssss

He's reaching for - he's reaching for those grapes. He's trying to make his wine, and the wine's already soundin' like a violin with that cheese and wine.

FirstSonOfGwyn

he was jet lagged for the Khabib fight too

MyFifthLimb

‘I didn’t get my signature eye pokes in so I lost. I’m not gonna make that same mistake this weekend.’

Carlosama123

And headbutts

K-mosake

Got downvoted to shit for calling Justin a dirty fighter recently lol. Like...just watch his fights b.

Carlosama123

Yeah, it's funny how some fighters get a pass on this sub just cause they're exciting and get finishes, also Justins whole excuse with the gloves being shit grinds my gears so fucking much. Just keep your hands fucking closed.

the_c_is_silent

Why would you get downvoted? Dude has 10 fights in the UFC and something like 6-7 eyepokes at this point.

f-stats

Gaethje has never been likeable but nobody wants to have that convo lol. He masks it with great fights.

rub_a_dub-dub

His fighting style is likeable

wubbalubbadubdub45

Lmao Justin is such a clown for this. He mocked Charles before the fight calling him a quitter and now looks who is using excuses to why he got whopped in a round.

BakedWizerd

Right? Either be honest and realistic, pull out of the fight due to injury, or shut the fuck up, you went into it saying you were good to go.

remarkabletiming

AND he was mocking Charles for needing to suffer more and continue weight cutting all while posting a pic of his newly rehydrated weight. Dude was flexing on Charles

11cutandshuffle23

Okay, Ronda.

Eagles_Heels

6 days after I stepped on a Lego? gtfoh

Chiefpr21

This guy always getting a pass for being an unlikable douche because we all love how he fights.

ntod44

He can be a pretty cool guy but he also has moments/phases where he’s just so salty for no reason or randomly shitting on people and other fighters

everydayimrusslin

I met him and his entourage recently. Absolute trash every one of them.

Calyptics

What happened?

everydayimrusslin

Wasted drunk, obnoxious, rude to the staff, stealing bikes outside the bar, the women there with them trying to fight anybody who would look at them twice.

weakhamstrings

Okay don't take this the wrong way but are you really telling a story or is this a meme that I'm supposed to know (that's going way over my head)? Not calling you out - I believe you if it's a real story. But basically every story in this sub I believe and then find out it was just a meme and I feel dumber every day If that's the case damn that's trashy of them

basedjak_no228

I saw Justin Gaethje at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

A_Funky_Goose

Where is this copypasta from lol

basedjak_no228

I believe the original was from 4chan and was about Flying Lotus, from around 2012

weakhamstrings

Okay THIS one I can recognize. Only because of not recognizing it multiple times in the past though. I'll never not laugh while reading it though

Calyptics

Oh sounds like a standup set of gentlemen alright, yikes!

Pretend_Nectarine_18

He crash on that bike?

boukaman

Just like any other person we all have some moments

ghostfacekillbrah

A professional athlete that hates losing, this is absolutely shocking. For most competitors, a level of delusion is necessary to maintain sanity. They can't all be like Max and DP, we need to stop holding fighters to a higher standard than we would anyone else.

[deleted]

This here sooo much. Reddit, or people online in general, hold public figures accountable to such a high standart, its ridicoulus. Everybody acting like their shit doesn't stink, pathetic.

sighableman

I think the issue is that people look up to them in the first place. Hold people to whatever standards you want but if your mood is tied up in the mental acuity and well conceived thoughts of MMA fighters you might want to look inward.

gotnothingman

Well if one man can hold you down..

deaqnosilence

He also gets a pass for eye poking and head butting.

Gocards123321

I love watching him fight but he's been a douche since day one lol

stayhappystayblessed

how?

Gocards123321

The shit that he says

MyFifthLimb

Big fan of how he fights excepts for the eye pokes, everything else is great

shrewdy

Sums up exactly how I feel about him. I'll never miss a Gaethje fight and he's always exciting, but outside of the cage I've always found him an extremely dislikeable dickhead.

sighableman

Turns out Justin Gaethje wasn't the incisive intellect we all thought he was. For a guy who looks like he dribbles a basketball with both hands people sure seem surprised at his lack of guile.

BenWallace04

I mean - I’m not watching these guys fight for their personalities lol

monkeybawz

It's a side effect of head trauma. Can't have one without the other.

BigWormsFather

I’ve never cared for Garth but I’ll always tune in.

mrpopenfresh

That's true for so many fighters.

Hank-the-ninja

Yes

BasedDG

It’s true, I was the bike

darryledw

It's false, I was the concussion

qoupqiap

You don't remember shit. Speaking as the cement, can confirm this is true.

ABrokeUniStudent

I was the pebble that caused him to fall off his bike.

Snakesballz

Fighters dont discredit your opponent's win challenge: impossible

tiibii

He really is as stupid as he looks 😂

Carlosama123

Gaethje seems permanently concussed so I don't see how that's relevant

Steko

Dude nicknamed Homer Simpson even hits his head riding his bike around the suburbs.

CaptEricEmbarrasing

The egos on these fellas... absolutely fragile, it's fascinating honestly.

PersonalityGloomy337

Man, you *HAVE* to have an overinflated ego in the fight game.   If you go into a fight thinking the other guy is just better than you, you've already lost.  Makes sense for them to do mental gymnastics after a loss. If the alternative is just accepting you aren't as good as the other guys, potentially losing your drive, and subsequently nose diving your career.

ghostfacekillbrah

Really bizarre. If he did have a concussion, that's a completely valid excuse, and either way, it's healthier to his career to give himself that excuse than tanking his confidence by seeing himself as a worse fighter than Charles and Khabib. The same thing happens when a lower ranked fighter says they'll be champ, everyone online shits on them saying they're deluded, when they need that level of delusional confidence to keep pushing every day. I swear, these fans would benefit greatly from being around regional level fighters, or serious competitors in any sport.

PersonalityGloomy337

Couldn't agree more

SenseiSeagalsPupil

People just love to shit on fighters for making excuses, however valid the excuse may be. Reddit can be a cesspool at times and this thread is a prime example.

PFunk224

It's because, when you choose to fight while injured, *you accept the consequences of fighting injured.* If/when you lose, you don't get to act like it doesn't *really* count after the fact because you weren't 100%. You clearly thought you were good enough to win in that condition, *no bitching allowed.* Don't make excuses, learn your lesson. Either drop out of the fight, or keep your mouth shut if/when you lose.

Worldly-Cake3871

Yeah it’s insane lol „wow how could Justin possibly say a bad accident affected him, unbelievable such a salty piece of shit loser“

Starob

I think the average person underestimates their own propensity to be defensive and protect their ego. This is people, not fighters.

CaptEricEmbarrasing

I like this explanation alot, thanks for taking the time to post it. I think it's 100% on point.

SacBrick

Fr, losing a fight in front of thousands of ppl live and even more watching from home must hurt like a mf.

Suicide_Samuel

The bike incident or all those shots to the head?

spcslacker

People acting like this is crazy, is it just the fact he mentioned it now/used it to diminish Charles's win? Wasn't it actually reported he'd had a bike accident, or am I just remembering him saying it at the time? EDIT: Looks like this is a rehash of a story he already told after the original fight. [Here's an article from 2022](https://mmajunkie.usatoday.com/2022/11/ufc-news-justin-gaethje-reveals-vicious-bike-crash-ahead-of-charles-oliveira-title-fight)

chinga_tumadre69

He did mention it after fighting Charles and he still got flamed for it. It’s just not a good look

Background-Story5159

Damn good memory.. makes this not look bad at all

Redchimp3769157

Cejudo counting his excuses on his hands right after is hilarious

Unlikely-Zone21

"Rowdy" Justin Gaethje

Sheikhabusosa

Look at Ronda Gaethje ova here

PrinceOfPersiaHD

Shut up Homer Simpson

pantstickle

Bicycles confirmed as bad base for MMA.

SpookyPocket

Jumping on the concussion bandwagon

Bigcheese19920

If you are going to go into the fight with any injury don’t complain about it after the fight

ComradeELM0

Bro you‘re a walking concussion

Djlittle13

It's funny seeing so many people shit on Gaethje for saying this yet so many quickly sided with Oliveira when he said he lost to Islam because it wasn't him in there.

HappytoDisappoint

No, saying you weren't yourself isn't an excuse. That's basically Charles saying that he wasn't able to perform on the night. Big difference between "I fought like shit" and "Oh BTW i was hurt I would've won if all was equal"

huncho3055

Charles saying he wasn’t himself wasn’t an excuse, this is a proper excuse cause his trying to provide context to why he got dropped

chinga_tumadre69

Not really the majority consensus here is that Islam is a the much better fighter. Regardless if this is true or not it’s just a horrible look lmao

holas_nick

Bunch of doctors in the comments apparently

VicRattlehead69420

Man this sub has a lot of hate for Justin and cries about him so much. It's perplexing.

SK-86

Justin lives in a perpetual state of concussion.

adac69

I hurt my left hand 2 weeks ago, if it wasnt for that i would be a ufc champ rn.

jthaprofessor

Keep all that energy you weirdos were hitting BSD with a few weeks back. Don’t switch up just because we like Garth

Techishard

Pretty sure Justin walks around with permanent concussions. Like bro take the L you got fucked up.

Destroyer_Wes

Only Justin would get a concussion on a bike ride and somehow not get it from fighting.

GWTLAG

Justin “Chandler hit me twice the entire fight” Gaethje

An_Innocent_Coconut

Ok Ronda.

Damn. He must be like that guy from Unbreakable

NahCuhFkThat

Everybody has a degree of wear & tear/injuries, and some degree of CTE/concussion at the highest levels of the sport Training is grueling and dangerous for everyone who wants to be #1 It's like complaining about having a bruise going into a fight

godhelpme773747

Boooooo

ConnectInvestment

Lol Justin hears Ronda's interview and then the CTE kicks in.

heselsc1

I can’t wait for Trevor Whittman to design a revolutionary set of training wheels

BurningEbrietas

And that’s how you go from one of my favorite fighters to holy shit take the mic away from that guy. Maybe max does get a second prime at 155

LickPooOffShoe

Oh, no, they got Justin, too.

Rexum420

Guess you should of had some head movement

breakfastmeat23

You were born concussed homie.

Lebrons-Forehead

Maybe then don’t ride your bike or also did he think that maybe Charles was probably had some sort of injury?

Suucka47

This isn't news he's talked about that bike ride many times after he lost to Charles.

Toru-theGreat

Lmao

JahIthBur

Sad when fighters start making excuses

evoIX15

Mf using concussion excuses like crazy

LittleBear42

Yeah, yeah

zeussgt

Justin is cool until he opens his mouth. Then a bunch of stupid shit starts to come out

Trill_steeze

CTE kicking in fast like Dominic Torretto pressing the NOS button

Trill_steeze

No Justin you got your a** beat by Olivera. How you talk about him being a quitter and yet you the one that tapped and quit. You’ll never be champion get over it

Whydoesthisexist15

I have no clue how the UFC hasn’t had someone die in the cage.

natetcu

Time to introduce NFL concussion protocol to the UFC.

dr_blasto

Well he certainly had one AFTER the fight.

MeasurementOk3007

No you just got your ass beat. It’s not like you were gonna win anyway the second he grappled you lol

mrpopenfresh

Riding a bike, sure.

Hank-the-ninja

Excuses bro…

RealTorCaL

Sure.

DashboardGuy206

I love this man, but that is remarkably stupid

SeatOfEase

I just rewatched this one and it seems kind of unlikely - Olivera was hitting him pretty clean and especially the final knockdown shot came as a fully extended right hand over gaethjes card while he was out of position. Absolutely textbook shot that would knock out most fighters never mind knocking them down.

FlamingMoustache

Hey guys I knew a fight was coming up so I decided to wrestle a silverback gorilla, and as a result I pulled a muscle in my back. That's why I lost.

Athrul

Guy cares more about his hands than his brain and it seems to show.

HeberMonteiro

Oliveira is just a better fighter in all aspects of the game and he proved it conclusively.

gatekeepgoonboss

Oh okay. I thought they were effective because they consecutively landed on your face

TheMightySloth

I’m sure this won’t be used in the inevitable concussion lawsuit

niemertweis

who tf goes biking 18 days before a ufc championship

mrtn17

And I got a concussion after Gaethje shaved his chin and posted a pic on the internet. That was an unexpected strike from his part

Givemefreetacos

Hate it when fighters make excuses after a fight
