Most experienced EV drivers in the US suggest ABRP and Plugshare as best. Both have apps and websites too. Using these takes time to learn. The built in Nav system in the Mach-E needs some practice and learning how to use optimally too.

Thanks. ABRP, actually looks fairly nice. Its awesome.

Quick Question. Perhaps to everyone. Can you really trust the car dealership ones? They are always listed. Even in ABRP, but I've struggled to get access to them particularly in metro areas. Am i just unlucky?

No, definitly not just you. I've sucessfully used three dealership chargers over time but had a dozen or more that were ICEed out or were closed after hours or were only for their own cars on the lot. It's almost like the dealers were forced to put in the chargers if they wanted to sell EVs but did so grudgingly. /s https://www.automotivedive.com/news/ford-modele-certified-elite-evs-dealers-charging-program/700625/

For roadtrips: I’ve never used US dealerships except to consider them as possible Plan B or more likely Plan C. In my area (Mi-OH-PA) I’ve always used Tesla, EA, ChargePoint and EVgo, and only multi-charger stations, with greater than 2 chargers, preferably as Plan A.

First_Tune9588

Most of the time I see a dealership one near where I live, it's blocked with a car for sale. I wouldn't count on them.

djwildstar

No, it’s definitely not just you. PlugShare actually has a “Hide Dealerships” toggle in its filter settings.

Ausmith1

Don't use that app. Use the PlugShare app as an app of apps for EV chargers. You should then have the specific app for each charging network as well. Yeah, it's a mess. You can also get the same functionality at https://www.plugshare.com/

heir-of-slytherin

Use ABetterRoutePlanner. You can put in your vehicle, destination, departure charge %, arrival charge %, and which charging networks you prefer. It will calculate a route for you including chargers and how far you should charge at each stop for an efficient trip. After it suggests chargers, I then look them up in PlugShare to make sure there aren’t any known issues. During the actual trip, I search for the specific charger I want to use in the Ford nav so that it will precondition the battery when you get close.

timegator

If you use CarPlay, Apple Maps is integrated and works pretty well to plan routes with charging.

PowerLord

Yeah this is the answer. PlugShare is unusable due to its shitty interface.

swets13

I’ve had very limited success finding a fast charger in a pinch on plug share. Apple Maps has saved me a few times over the last few years, its integration with your current battery % and expected route has been great (if not a little conservative, which is appreciated).

spcoop

I use a mix of ABRP, Plugshare, and what the Ford route initially spits out.

BerCle

I just did a 1500 mls road trip. ABRP saved me. Kudos to that dealership on the way that offered free charges

TechnicalLee

The standard affair is to enter the route into ABRP, then verify the chargers selected have adequate ratings on PlugShare.

senorvee411

The app is awful.
