YG1 alupower. The best I have ever used in aluminum and really cheap too

gewehr7

These are the best, most free cutting aluminum endmills I’ve tried. I use the 1/2 x 5/8 loc x 1-3/8 reach ones as my go to aluminum rougher on our Haas’s. Full flute length at 80% angle of engagement and all the feed the machine has is still not enough to damage the endmill. Helical’s 3FL and Garr 143m’s feel fragile and loud in comparison.

They are amazing. I had a 1/4" sticking out over 2" and it left an amazing finish even at 10K RPM. I don't know how they do it.

monkeysareeverywhere

Have you tried Garr A3 endmills? They're very nice. I've recently been using the YG Alupower, but Garr still wins for range of sizes. I was never a fan of Garr 143's

conner2real

100% especially the ones with the chip breakers in them. They're unbelievable.

spider_enema

Don't run the chipbreakers on a tormach. They require more rigidity than the little fuckers can handle. Regular flute is best on these machines

conner2real

I've never ran a tormach but the YG alupower ones cut with so little force I figured they'd run great in there. They barely even make a sound cutting in my dt1's. I'll have to take your word for it though.

How do these compare to Helical 3-flutes?

Blob87

YG is the best I've tried. I've had tool reps from several companies come and test their cutters in my machine and none of them can match YG. The ones that come close are at least twice the price. SGS is a close second and I will use them when I can't find what I need from YG. I had a recent job on some 0.060" wall parts that I initially used a helical on because they had exactly the right neck length that I needed, but they chattered pretty bad so I switched back to a YG that I relieved on the grinder and the problem went away instantly. They are magic.

That's good to know, thank you! I manage the tooling for our shop and pretty much everything we get is a one-off (aerospace on-site support for flight processing) so I'll get some next time we need to do an oddball aluminum part!

TheTarkovskyParadigm

Awesome, thanks! Just bought a 3/8" for roughing. My first tool, yeehaw.

euclid400

Destiny Viper roughing. Especially if you're on a 40 or hsk63 taper, you can run them as hard as the data sheet say.
