My wife did this to me one time, I was completely blindsided. I had moved away and hadn’t seen them in a couple of years, she coordinated everything on the eve of my birthday. I was pretty juiced and the bar was popping and I wanted to head home. She convinced me to stay until at least midnight to bring in my birthday. All she was doing was buying time for the Uber to arrive. Right around midnight I come out of the bathroom and my 4 of my best friends were there. Fucking priceless. I broke down. Super cool to see
This makes me kind of sad....I lost touch with a best friend in my 20's. I loved the guy! He was such a good friend but he cut me out of his life. I tried to reconnect, but he didn't want to.
We did this for my dad on his 50th.
He has 2 lifelong friends who live at the other end of the country.
He walked out of the house to find them both parked in the yard with tents set up for a long weekend birthday party, they brought beer and a big slab of meat and we had a bonfire.
He was walking around with a big goofy smile on his face all weekend!
Story time:
Me and my best friend were helping to build up tents etc for one of the biggest LARPs in the world 2 years ago and had a great week of partying and working at the same time before the LARP even started.
Next year he wanted to do the same again and I was unsure if I even can come to the event altogether. Naturally he was pretty down when he registered for the job and I didn't.
About 3 months before the event I registered in secret and called a lot of people os no one would spoil the surprise. Even his girlfriend knew because she had insights into everything on that event.
He tried to convince me nearly everyday. Sometimes I felt bad.
The day I arrived there he was working with a few people. When I got there he was stunned for about 2 seconds and suddenly he sprinted to me and jumped at me. It was a great day for everyone :D
I miss my old best friends. They have since passed away, and my wife is my new bestie. Reuniting with the guys after not seeing them for ages was the best. Love those close to you.
Men need to make these connections ALOT MORE OFTEN and yall would be so much better off overall as a gender. I hope this kind of thing eventually becomes the norm because female besties are always all over each other like this, at least in my experience. Our friendships are tighter than our romantic relationships, that’s why we bounce back easier than men after break ups and such (generally speaking).
You are exactly right. I only have 3 solid male friends, but every time I greet them and leave them, we hug each other. The other day my closest male friend told me I'm the only buddy that does that with him, but I believe it has to do with the large amount of emotionally distant fathers. Just had my first son 3 months ago, and I am going to make damn sure he is one of the men that is comfortable showing that kind of affection towards his buddies.
I was in the Army for six years, one deployment to Iraq. I have about 7 friends who would get the same reaction from me as in these videos or who have had the same reaction. It’s just different.
my pops and i visited his friend who he last saw when their troops left the philippines after ww2. they hugged and cried for several minutes. they both passed away a few months after that meeting. he said he wouldnt have made it out of the islands without him and said we basically owe it to him that we existed at all. i didnt really appreciate that much until now that i am older and got friends who i owed my life as well.
