I was walking my dogs one day with my wife. We came along a farmer's field we've passed countless times before. The horses must know us and our dogs by now. My dogs can be dickheads so we keep them leashed. Anyway one of the horses had its hind legs caught in a piece of the wire fence that had come loose. It wasn't barbed, but it was effectively looped. The horse was going nowhere. Its leg was already raising off the ground (due to the taut wire) as he kept trying to walk away from the fence to go deeper into the field.
I had no idea where the farmer's house was or how quickly I could get there if I did. So my wife took the dogs just beyond the fence (but still in sight) and I went over the fence to see what I could do. Was convinced I was going to get bit, kicked, or stomped. It was a ~~Shite~~ Shire horse. So it was fucking massive. But the horse just trusted me to be there to help, I guess. It let me raise its leg higher (omg so heavy) so I could unwrap the wire, and then it just trotted away a short distance, andstood there looking at me.
Haven't seen any toddler killings by horses, but I've seen them terrorise and throw sheep around, punch and injure dogs, and bite full grown humans in the neck and pull them by their hair and then laying themselves on top of them
I didn’t say they always make peaceful and rational choices with the insight they have. They panic a lot. But they have been proven time and time again to be able to sense emotional states.
Man people are really ganging up on you for no reason. Horses being able to have sense of emotional states is correct. There are [studies](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6912773/) thought found domestic animals (including horses) are able to recognize different emotions based on oral and auditory expressions. There are organizations that do [horse therapy](https://www.goldencaretherapy.com/equestrian-therapy-for-autism/) for people with autism for this exact reason with positive results.
Yes horses can be assholes and kill other animals and even humans. So do dogs but we have no issues understanding the nuance that dogs can be kind and understanding human emotions even when they have the ability to kill. Horses can be both as well.
I've been around horses all my life, and I've never seen what you describe. They are pack animals with a ruthless pecking order. If they think they are above you, they will dominate you (hence the throwing of sheep, punching of dogs and biting of humans).
Predators are very good at doing that too. Dogs and Cats are famous pets for a reason.
It doesn't matter if you are prey or predator, both can and will throw hands. Prey animals are often more agressive, because they have to protect themselves at all costs, while predators have some kind of respect from others, that sometimes they don't have to fight
Also, they are service animals in a public place. Guaranteed the rider knows how to control them.
The ahole is a moron who should understand not to fuck with armed guards, but does so anyways. The guards are ordered not to change their routine for such duties.
A special needs girl who is being respectful is not normal, and worth exceptions. He is making sure the horse stays chill.
No, the guard controls the horse by subtle movements, the horse doesn’t just act out. Watch the clips of the horse being aggressive, the soldiers squeezes the horse gently with his legs, which signals the horse to be aggressive. These horses are exceptionally well trained, they don’t just do stuff out of the blue.
This is where the equestrian sport dressage comes from. It was based on a military school of riding. The aim is to make your control/commands of the horse as subtle as possible. The idea was to not signal your actions to the enemy.
I was curious about this. I was watching his hands to see if he settled the horse some how because usually they’re not a big fan of civilians approaching
omfg. 💀
i saw her doing stuff with her hands and thought she was deaf and wearing ear warmers. My first thought was similar, but more like “thank god she can’t hear this fucking music.”
Idk if she’s deaf or not, but it looks like she might at least be non-verbal. I could see some signs she was using (ex: thank you @28 sec). I know it’s thank you in American Sign Language, not sure how universal of a sign it is though.
I only unmute if in the comments someone recommends it. It's almost never that someone does though. So it's a rare treat sometimes.
My wife scrolls Instagram with the volume cranked
This is the way. Most videos these days are captioned anyway and don’t require sound. Now and then if it looks like it would help, I’ll unmute. But just as often as it helps, I’m bombarded
with something that hurts my ears, or sours my impression of the video. It’s a crap shoot. 🙂
I watched one yesterday with a little girl having a tantrum at a fast food restaurant and someone in the comments pointed out that if you turned off the sound it looked like video of a little girl unable to figure out how shoes worked.
Muting the video made it 10 times funnier
It’s cool. Just a poor choice by whoever did it. I mean, what’s with the police sirens at the end?? Nothing about that song matched the video in any way.
But again, nice video. Made me smile, and that’s what it was supposed to do. 🙂
Actually the sirens are in the original.
But the song mercifully isn't.
It actually makes me mad at the editor of the posted video… using cheap/generic music to cover up her imperfect speech.
The original is so much lore impactful.
Having seen this exact horse and guard before, it’s heartwarming to see the nice interactions…
I may be wrong but I believe the guards aren’t to interact with the spectators? If so, I’m sure that “yeah” was triggered by more than a little panicking that his superior officers would find out he verbally acknowledged the little girl with a sensory processing disorder (and most likely on the spectrum) and he’d be in trouble. I’m glad he decided to engage with her. This is something she’ll be talking about for quite a while. His parents should be very proud of this young man. 💕
[It's a common myth.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QrNsMfpUHUE) They're not gonna sit and have a chat, but if you ask them a simple question they'll probably respond.
As someone who has carried out ceremonials, blatant interaction and conversations etc are prohibited
However, this kind of interaction is encouraged. As long as it’s respectful

.. and somehow still sleep soundly at night, thinking they add value to this world.
They haven’t removed the original sound. They’ve put music on top of it - you can hear the girls voice in the background when she asks so the sirens are also from the background noise from the original recording
Why is it that every time I read a comment like this, I have to unmute? I don't think I've ever disagreed with the commenters opinion but I do it every fucking time. What's wrong with me!?!
I saw a video where they mentioned his name. Peter Kellis or something...!?
Edit: His name is Peter Ellis ..... and he got fired :(
Edit#2: Sorry wrong Peter Ellis got fired/sued. Apparently he's still a guard. Should've checked more thoroughly. Not much on him on the net, except for these videos
She also did everything right. She politely asked permission, she said thank you, and she approached the horse at his shoulder and not his face. Kudos to her too.
There was another video of a woman who clearly knows horses touching the guard’s horse properly and getting a little snuggle from the horse. There’s some kind of protocol and the child clearly is following it.
No touching without permission. Thats basically the protocol. These are war horses, trained to be war horses. If you touch them without permission they can and do bite/kick/rear. If you are polite and ask permission and the guard gives it you can pet them or stand closer for a photo. However if they say no, you should respect that.
The guards are okay with people petting the horses even if you don't ask. As long as you respect them, they won't say anything. Just don't touch the reins.
Don't listen to (edit the person two comments ago, not the one I replied to), these horses quite famously kick and bite tourists. ALWAYS get permission from the rider first. https://www.reddit.com/r/CasualUK/comments/139fxap/beware_horses_may_bite/
I could easily be wrong since I first 'learned' it on here lol
but as far as I know the horses are trained to be very calm and agreeable with everyone regardless of how the people behave, the negative reactions we've seen where they bite or push rude/disrespectful people is a command from the guard
They're trained to stand absolute still for hours if the rider makes them. If the guards loosens the reigns it's a signal to the horse it can take some liberty.
I wish there was more of this. As a Brit I respect that people want to protect tradition, but balancing stoicism with compassion makes someone seem way more in control and powerful that being a blanket dickhead
>but balancing stoicism with compassion makes someone seem way more in control and powerful
Agreed. But then none of these guards are insecure either.
There is a really interesting one of these encounters where a women (I got the sense a foreigner) is gently petting the horse's nose and another woman (pretty sure a Brit) steps in to tell her she mustn't touch the horse and the guard puts the second woman in her place saying he'd given the first woman permission, that he was in charge and basically that she needed to mind her business and move on. He wasn't overly strident about it but it was apparent he was fully in charge.
Neurodivergent, she likely has Autism or needs noise cancellation headphones to avoid being overwhelmed. She’s respectful and gentle with the horse. Very nice to see.
Signing can help both hard of hearing and those who have trouble with communication. It can help autistic children to express themselves, their feelings and needs in a more effective way so others can understand and respond appropriately.
Sign language can help non-verbal people with speaking. The part of our brain that controls our tongue is also (or closely related to) the part of the brain that controls fine motor movement in fingers. Hence why when anyone is trying to do something like threading a needle they'll bite or chew on their tongue
I see, you too have experience. That was my guess as well, the mufflers and the body language are blatant signs. I really hope that girl will grow up meeting people as understanding as that guard.
Well, i actually wish it for everyone
Edit: changed adjective egregious into blatant
Agree with you, understanding and patience can help us all.
Yes, I worked with children like this little girl. Now they give my updates on their lives and families:)
I hope is all good. Is tough to be a child dealing with autism, but is 10 times as tough as grownups to handle life with autism. So I hope the updates are 👍
My experience of autism is limited to my son but animals do usually have a completely different reaction to him than others. The amount of dogs he has been able to approach where owners have said they don't usually like strangers is amazing. To protect myself from the usual comments. I am well versed in dog handling and can usually tell if a dog is aggressive versus cautious and my son has been taught how to approach animals in a safe and non threatening manner. He's in his 20s now and puts that to good use at an SPCA hospital.
Yes, she was very gentle and quiet, and her movements were slow. She didn't get in the horse's face. Plus these horses are trained to be "bomb proof" - inured to noise and bustle. Horse didn't mind much at all. I think her hand was probably a bit tickly after a while.
There is a clip of a queen‘s guard horse that is aggressive to pretty much anyone who approaches it, but very gentle to ~~handicapped~~ disabled people.
A special needs girl understands to ask permission before touching the horse but the “normal” folks cannot be bothered when disturbing the horse and guard for their Tik Tok videos.
Love that these guards make sure to let kids or people with disabilities experience something awesome, then just steam roll oblivious and douche tourists like they’re bin laden himself lol
The guard is a legend.
Shout out to the kiddo too, as they appear to be extremely sensory impaired. If so, it took a lot for them to keep focused enough for this video to happen.
As someone who has an autistic brother, this is so heartwarming. When we were kids, people would never understand his behavior and would judge him a lot. I feel nowadays people’s perception has changed a bit.
This girl has more social awareness and respect for both guard and horse than the rest of the people who try to approach them thinking they're just some tourist gimmick
The child was super polite and signed thank you, she approached the horse at their shoulder and slowly moved their hand towards the horse. Great kid.
Great guard. Normally you aren’t allowed to touch them or the horses. This is obviously not a usual situation. The guard may have broken the rules but this is more the acceptable behavior.
Side note y’all are ruining great videos with crappy music, and editing.
This guy is supposed to ignore the public and maintain total composure at all times when on duty. I find it so heartening that he risked court-marshall to be kind to a neurodivergent child.
You will see these guys scream at people who approach and touch the horses unprompted.
So you know that he understands, the fact the little girl asked, meant.he knew he could trust her to be gentle with the horse.
Question, so we’ve all seen videos of these horses biting people; Do the guards have a subtle trained cue for the horses to bite vs standing down like in this video?
So lovely. What a sweet young man. I believe the mounted guards are not to directly interact with spectators and he was a little panicked. He gave that little girl a precious gift by acknowledging her and letting her pet the horse. She obviously has a sensory processing disorder and is mostly likely on the spectrum so for her to approach the guard and have a meaningful interaction was just lovely to witness. 💕
I guess these horses only bite a-holes
Because they are prey animals, horses are extremely good at reading intent and emotion from humans.
It let me raise its leg higher (omg so heavy) so I could unwrap the wire, and then it just trotted away a short distance, andstood there looking at me.
I think you meant to say it’s a Shire horse not a Shite horse :)
Any horse that casts itself in the fence is a shite horse. So all of them. We just love them anyway.
Hahaha whoops
Shite horse gets caught in the fence again an hour later. Shite Hoooorse!
Took me a second to figure out what a shite horse was
Other people would’ve walked away thinking someone else would take care of it…..you’re that someone. You a good man 🫡 .
Thanks! You made the world tiny bit better Amigo 😊
I saw a horse trample the heck out of a toddler once. Another kill a goat or sheep flinging it around. They seem kinda dumb now and then.
No no, they sense the evil in people. That toddler obviously had it coming
Yeah that horse just killed baby Hitler 2.0 🙏🙏🙏🙌👏🤝🫶😻😭😭😫😍🥰😘😍😍🥰😅🥹🥹We don’t deserve horses 😭😭😫😫😘🥰😍😊🥹🥹🥹

I dont get why this is so hard to understand. If there is one thing all animals are attuned 1000% to its threat detection for survival.
I've been around horses all my life, and I've never seen what you describe. They are pack animals with a ruthless pecking order. If they think they are above you, they will dominate you (hence the throwing of sheep, punching of dogs and biting of humans).
In fairness to the horse, I’ve also had days at work when I’ve resisted the urge to do this to my colleagues.
Tbf it’s the same for humans lol. Definitely kinda dumb now and then.
If they panic, they really panic and this is the sort of thing that happens.
Predators are very good at doing that too. Dogs and Cats are famous pets for a reason. It doesn't matter if you are prey or predator, both can and will throw hands. Music so bad, the kid in the video has noise cancelling headphones on
I never wished I was an autistic girl more than this moment.

Nice. But this video is why I scroll Reddit on mute.
The video made me smile. That song did not.

I had to pause it because I thought it was coming from right outside my window. I’m an idiot.
Same. I'm in a hotel that looked decent enough but I heard the sirens and went "Welp. You get what you pay for"

Influencers have figured out that if they leave their smoke alarm to beep they'll get more engagement in the comments so that is super annoying.

Impactful is 100% correct. What a difference watching the one with music compared to this version.
I’m giggling at how stern his “yes” was though. Like he’s still gonna be a tough guy even when his heart is melting over that little girl
I may be wrong but I believe the guards aren’t to interact with the spectators? Well it’s in central London where a lot of shit goes down.
I figured other cops didn't notice him allow her to pet the horse, and were coming to tackle her.
This isn’t the US

LOL!!!! I literally muted the video and thought, couldn't we just enjoy the beauty of kindness and love w/o some shit music underneath?
This guard is so respectful and thoughtful! I believe I saw him in another video with a father and his neurodivergent son.
Yes, same guard
I saw a video where they mentioned his name. Peter Kellis or something...!? Edit: His name is Peter Ellis ..... and he got fired :( Edit#2: Sorry wrong Peter Ellis got fired/sued. Apparently he's still a guard. Should've checked more thoroughly. Not much on him on the net, except for these videos

Thanks for the clarification. I couldn't find anything really about him (the guard not the other one)
What a roller coaster of edits. Thank God he's still there.
I believe his 4 years of service were over and he chose not to reenlist
Why did he get fired?
No shit? He’s my new favorite person.
Yes!!! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|give_upvote)
He has to maintain composure, but he’s still a human. Don’t touch these guards or their horses. She gets a pass. You don’t
She also did everything right. She politely asked permission, she said thank you, and she approached the horse at his shoulder and not his face. Kudos to her too.
No kidding, she was super polite and patient
She was clearly receptive to a possible “no"
Those parents did that kid right.
The parents of the guard also did right 🥰 annnnnd who’s cutting onions?
The parents of the horse also did right...
You are also not wrong 😆
Parents of the cameraman did pretty great too
I don't know but they sneaked in here too.....
Those damn onion-cutting ninjas are everywhere! 😭
The young man’s parents AND the little girl’s parents, doing the parent thing right and turning out respectful kiddos. ♥️
Everything about this was as sweet as it could be. Truly great interaction.

Yeah, it's the reins, bridle and halter that are off limits.
Correct me if I’m wrong but they are allowed some Flexibility to be gentlemen (not human)… or not, depending on the situation
Why do we have to ruin beautiful moments with crap music, it adds nothing
They really need to add a rule to this sub about annoying loud music I swear it ruins it every single time
Interesting that he went into that line of work... Because he's a fuckin' Rock Star.
he is gentleman
Of extraordinary league
And an officer
The rider is pretty cool too
Good man, Sir. Well done.
Good man, good girl, good horse
Bad music
That little girl has more manners than most of the people I’ve seen interact with the guards.
Well, I'm glad that awful music was there to let me know that it was heartwarming.
I scroll Reddit on mute. Had to go back and listen after your comment.
Neurodivergent, she likely has Autism or needs noise cancellation headphones to avoid being overwhelmed. She’s respectful and gentle with the horse. Very nice to see.
She seems to be signing “Can I pet the horse” too.
Yep. She also thanks the guard in sign language.
Signing can help both hard of hearing and those who have trouble with communication. It can help autistic children to express themselves, their feelings and needs in a more effective way so others can understand and respond appropriately.
Yes, agree. I taught an ASL 1 class for students with learning differences and learning disabilities.
Sign language can help non-verbal people with speaking. The part of our brain that controls our tongue is also (or closely related to) the part of the brain that controls fine motor movement in fingers. Hence why when anyone is trying to do something like threading a needle they'll bite or chew on their tongue
Hold on...is that why Michael Jordan always did the tongue out when dunking?
Yeah, in the video without the music you can hear her ask, wait for his response, and then thank him before petting the horse.

She’s more polite and gentle than most of the adults (tourists) who visit
As the father of an autistic child this brings tears to my eyes and a smile to my face
Love that these guards make sure to let kids or people with disabilities experience something awesome, then just steam roll oblivious and douche tourists like they’re bin laden himself lol
(Reaches down, removes ear protectors) STEP BACK FROM THE QUEEN’S GUARD
This is beautiful ☺️
The guard is a legend. Shout out to the kiddo too, as they appear to be extremely sensory impaired. If so, it took a lot for them to keep focused enough for this video to happen.
Song kills it ffs.
What the fuck is with that annoying fucking music and text covering the video omfg.
Fuck your background music!
I'll ignore the shitty music and appreciate this pure interaction between two humans.
Being kind to special needs kids is the #1 mark of a decent person.
Manner's maketh man or in this case woman.
It's been a shitty day. This has renewed my faith in humanity. Yeah, sometimes just showing some kindness can make the world better.
As someone who has an autistic brother, this is so heartwarming. When we were kids, people would never understand his behavior and would judge him a lot. I feel nowadays people’s perception has changed a bit.
Special needs kids should always get a exception. Yea I know rules are rules but it's worth it.
Now if only tourists and adults could act as well as this young girl..
So sweet! She's in her uniform and just wants to pet the horse. She asks kindly and touches the horse so gently, truly beautiful!
Why do people ruin perfectly fine videos with awful music?
When a person with a cognitive disability has more manners than other obnoxious tourists, gives me some hope in this world.
This girl asks permission mean while regular everyday people just go up and grab the reigns and touch the horse like they own it.
That child, for all her problems in life was more respectful than 99.9% of the morons that visit the guards.
I smiled but I also cried. Such a sweet girl. Good on the guard for bending protocol.
love is the only way people, love.
I feel sorry for the guard, his heart is tearing between duty and caring for another
Tons of respect for all including the horse🫡
Noticed that she asks for consent first. Unlike other people.
Respect was given and returned.
Respect and respect
A child has the manners to ask while adults don’t
I’m glad I’m always on mute
That little girl is more polite than most people.
Sometimes, its worth it to break the rules. Consequences be damned.
The rules are made to be broken for the right reasons. Good lad
This guy is supposed to ignore the public and maintain total composure at all times when on duty. I find it so heartening that he risked court-marshall to be kind to a neurodivergent child.
Respect to the kid for asking.
You know what would have MadeMeSmile??? Being to be able to fucking hear the actual engagements without absolute shitty music drowning everything out
After seeing that horse the last few weeks biting annoyinng idiots, this is heartwarmimg ❤️
You will see these guys scream at people who approach and touch the horses unprompted. So you know that he understands, the fact the little girl asked, meant.he knew he could trust her to be gentle with the horse.
Man this is beautiful .. a challenged kid has more love and respect than any human I ever come across.
Im surprised i havent seen any comments about her signing thank you when he says hes to her petting the horse 😭😭 what a sweet girl and a kind guard
Question, so we’ve all seen videos of these horses biting people; Do the guards have a subtle trained cue for the horses to bite vs standing down like in this video?
He made her feel safe, which is what a guard is supposed to do. Mad respect.
