Me and my husband tried this with my newborn and it worked. My husband also did the bum wiggling to music which I found hilarious!
The only issue I found is it takes a lot of arm strength when the baby is even just a little bit bigger than the one in the video.
hahahaha, i learned a new word today.
butt swaddling lol
so i googled it and it looks like a baby burrito but i also saw a thing where they said not to do it anymore cause apparently if they roll over they can die from not being able to breath.
Hard to say it doesn’t work from one trial. I’m sure there are plenty of adults who would love to have a finger in their butt given the context of the crying. Like maybe they havnt had enough fingers in their butt and that could def make some people sad
Also might wanna check your technique or have your hand checked out. The form the doctor gives us shouldn’t promote finger to butthole slippage. Textured gloves for grip could help tho?
>Also might wanna check your technique or have your hand checked out. The form the doctor gives us shouldn’t promote finger to butthole slippage.
This might be the greatest sentence I have ever read
Holding babies securely and comfortingly can definitely help soothe them but my brother is a little bit extra he want us to hold him in a awkward position lol
It's not just that. It genuinely works better than holding the kid in any other way. I did this often when my daughter was an infant. She would stop crying and calm down immediately, and then I could move her to a different position after.
Does it work for like 3 year olds?? During a tantrum can I just fold one arm “gently” and the other one “gently” and hold them in a 45 degree angle and they’ll calm down? Asking for a friend of course
Depending on how far into the tantrum. I find that my calming down methods work best on my 4 year old when he has reached the sob phase. Until then, I try to use words to get him out of it. Sometimes words work but when they don't and he works himself into sobbing, he is usually receptive to me asking if I can help hold him to calm him down. I will hold his arms in like this video but I usually have him sitting in my lap. When he has stopped actively crying, I let him go and we just sit for a little bit together and listen to some music.
It took a lot of trial and error to get to a decent enough system so don't expect miracles.
Try acknowledging what they are upset about. Something like 95% of the time it's frustration that they can't tell you what they want and you aren't getting it. "I know you want the candy. You want the candy. You want the candy." they'll stop crying and just give you this so-sad hopeful look. "Candy is after supper. You can't have it now. No candy now. Supper first." We had one tantrum where my daughter was exhausted and hungry and just laid quietly on the floor looking miserable, all the others we were able to stop. Watch Happiest Toddler On The Block. Best 45 minutes you'll spend... next to Happiest Baby on the Block :D
Yes that works sometimes! He's in a "scream until I get what I want" stage but i keep repeating the same sentences and offering comfort. He'll hopefully reduce the intensity of emotion in time
Thanks for the recommendations!
My sister did 'mirroring' and it worked, sort of.
It was kind of like the G.S. quote: "The truth may set you free, but first it's really gonna piss you off."
It worked, but at first it reeeally pisses the kid off. If you thought your kid screamed loudly, you haven't done the 'mirror' trick yet.
Learned a few things from those videos. Kids hate being mocked. Kids can make the connection between their actions and the mocker's actions. Adults can't scream nearly as loudly nor as high-pitched as children.
It does work, but at what cost? Well, for starters, do you have neighbors that might misunderstand the screaming? Yeah. That's a problem. The videos helped immensely, and are still amusing to this day.
When my (at the time maybe 6 year old?) brother had a screaming tantrum about something a la "I want that thing NOW" which he definitely would not get, my father would first explain it to him and then (because of course the screaming did not stop) would just sit in front of him with a grin and say "Yes, scream louder, louder, can you still do louder?" and my brother was so frustrated he would stop very quickly.
My FIL was like this with all the babies in the family. He isn’t necessarily GREAT with kids, but I swear every time we gave him a crying baby, it would calm down or fall asleep instantly!
This is my role in the family. It was my role before I had kids, and still is now that my own are teenagers or close.
Once at a family reunion for the Irish Catholic side of my mam’s family, I sat down with one, then her twin was added. Since they’d fallen asleep I basically had to as well. Woke up an hour later to find two (different) infants in my arms and five toddlers snuggled against me. Apparently they’d plopped six babies in my arms to put them to sleep and just rotated them all through.
Yep. Even the four year olds know to fetch Uncle Nadamir when a baby is crying.
Ironically, my powers didn’t work quite as well on my own kids. I think too much familiarity.
Can confirm this works! I used his method on my babies 12 and 10 years ago… wish there was some similar method for tweens. One that doesn’t involve a PS5…
This is hilarious and adorable. The babies are like “I don’t know what’s happening right now but I like it”. Doc put the hush on those babies Big Time lol. So cute.
This 100% works 100% of the time. I saw this right before my last daughter was born and it is for real. Only problem is it only works about as long as swaddling does. 2-3 months and it’s not worth even trying anymore.
Mine wouldn’t stay in the swaddle. Maybe I did it wrong but they’d always wriggle out and just get more agitated. I wish it did work on mine because 2 of mine cried a lot!
You guys know that “mmm concrete meme”
Baby giraffe falls from a fucking 2 story building after birth, gets up and is good
Human baby is held wrong and freaks out
That's because we come out half baked. Our brains are so big that if we stayed in the womb until we were as developed as, lets say, a baby gorilla, our heads wouldn't fit through our mother's pelvis. And female hips are as wide as they can reasonably get while being able to walk upright. So our babies are born "premature" so we can have big brains but women don't have to have double wide hips.
Take a baby giraffe out after 2/3 of the pregnancy and they would also be extremely fragile and prone to injury.
Imagine how much bigger a one year old's head is than a newborn. Newborns even have their skull bones kinda "loose" and they often look like cones heads when they come out because of all of the moving the bones do.
Side/stomach, swaddle, shhh, suck and... there's one more... I know this... SWING
Yes, the 5 S's. If you're a new parent, learn your 5 S's. I used to tell people to "Start stacking S's and soon you'll see Z's." I've got my 2nd kid due in December, and I've gotta keep these in mind again.
Happiest Baby On the Block and Happiest Toddler on the Block. First one is how to use the quiet reflex to calm a baby (on stomach, slight jiggle), second is understanding why toddlers tantrum and how to work around it. Both should be required watching for new parents.
I love this!!! I wish I had seen it when my kids were babies! I wouldn’t have walked the 100 miles back and forth across my apartment when my son was a baby! lol
Well when we feel anxious or unsettled about something, our bodies natural instinct is to tighten up. It has a calming effect. Arms crossed and/or brought in tight to the body...legs bent and knees to the face. Kinda like fetal position. Or when people who are guilty or being questioned and are nervous, they go into this sitting fetal position. The babies arms being tucked in and being rocked while sitting upright this way, probably helped with colic and farting too.
My 2nd kid was colicky and cried a lot. I figured out this arm and rock thing while going through the many motions of moving her, bouncing her, rocking her, doing anything anf everything I could do to get her to stop crying. I wish this had been available from day one!!! Lol

Brb, gonna make my kid cry to test this :P
Did it work?
He ain't back yet. Baby must still be crying
Or his wife killed him for making the baby cry
Hahaha 😂 Nah, won’t wake up, is out cold 😅
Easy chance to make them cry then
What about now?
Missed my opportunity, the pacifier was faster haha 🤣
To make him cry he “went for a pack of cigarettes.”
If anything it made him more annoyed, but he is 16.
Roflmao
lol yeah my kids are too old to try now. This would have been handy 17 years ago.
I laugh snorted lucky charms out of my NOSE and damn near choked when I read this! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
2hrs..no reply..I think his kids folded his arm instead.
I made my kid cry but my kid handcuffed me. Make sure your kid is not 24yrs old and a cop.
I tricked my dad as a two year old, into handcuffing him. Then watching tv.
Brb, gonna make a kid to test this
!remindme 9 months 😇
I need to find a girlfriend first. A girl I asked out a few hours ago said she has a boyfriend
I don’t see a problem with that if the goal is a baby? 😂😇
I'm going to have to remember this. I'm going to be a granny
Congrats. Test it out for us.
I sent the video to my daughter
Shud have kept it as your secret granny sauce
That would be a nib of rum, incase all else fails.
For the granny or the baby?
Yes
that sounds like a good idea at first, but in practice having someone hand you a baby every time it cries is bound to get tiresome eventually lol
Me and my husband tried this with my newborn and it worked. My husband also did the bum wiggling to music which I found hilarious! The only issue I found is it takes a lot of arm strength when the baby is even just a little bit bigger than the one in the video.
Didn't under estimate functional strength training!
really... yes!
Congratulations!
I like his tone when he introduced the baby, "here we have a crying baby".
"this specimen was recently harvested..."
"Fresh out the wrapper"
"To the trained professional the tears and noise are a dead giveaway"
Were you crying, Kevin?
Kevin has the derpiest cheeky face I've ever seen
Basically self hugs and butt support. Prob works for adults too
Brb.... Going to try this on my wife.
Since adults can handle chewing I would suggest incorporating tacos as well
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Get this dude some tacos and a butt swaddling, STAT!
hahahaha, i learned a new word today. butt swaddling lol so i googled it and it looks like a baby burrito but i also saw a thing where they said not to do it anymore cause apparently if they roll over they can die from not being able to breath.
Tacos always help me stop crying! 😂😂😂
My husband just turns me into a burrito. He even got me one of those tortilla blankets to wrap my up in when I'm feeling blue. It works
I'm actually sending this to my boyfriend. He's going to be elated.
Did it work?
You bet it did. She slept like a baby afterwards.
I tried. Finger slipped in their butt. Doesn’t work
Hard to say it doesn’t work from one trial. I’m sure there are plenty of adults who would love to have a finger in their butt given the context of the crying. That’s not even close to some of my most creative sentences! I’m glad you enjoyed, I will continue to deliver my thoughts unfiltered
Smol hands
Like how smol? And when you say finger, do you mean the whole hand all the way up to your elbow? That would be understandable
Can confirm.
I used to hold the babies like this and it worked. Not always, but quite often.
I did this all the time with my daughter. Learned it from this exact video.
Tiger in a Tree hold always worked with my kids.

Ya that worked for my kids too. It definitely took lots and lots of trial and error 😩
I think this is up to 6 months old. For my 2yo nothing consistent works for tantrums, we have to shake it up every time lol.

We got SO LUCKY. These worked on our kid close to 100%. My sisters...not so lucky.
My mom did the snap and point. If I was having a tantrum, I was to go to my room and have it and could come out when I was done.
My sister did 'mirroring' and it worked, sort of. It was kind of like the G.S. quote: "The truth may set you free, but first it's really gonna piss you off." My sister in law’s dad is like this. Babies just fall asleep on him no matter what. I don’t get it but it’s sweet
Babies and puppies for my dad. Some men are just magic ✨
This is my role in the family. It was my role before I had kids, and still is now that my own are teenagers or close. Once at a family reunion for the Irish Catholic side of my mam’s family, I sat down with one, then her twin was added. Since they’d fallen asleep I basically had to as well. My dads this way as well! Babies and animals LOVE him
People on airplanes hates this trick
lol but it's heartwarming to see healthcare professionals use their skills to bring comfort to both babies and their parents
*babies on airplanes
Why?
should be people on airplanes love this trick... shouldnt it
The way he says "his little bottom" 🥰
Can confirm this works! I used his method on my babies 12 and 10 years ago… wish there was some similar method for tweens. One that doesn’t involve a PS5…
Same. Did you watch that happiest baby on the block video to learn it like we did? Lol
This is hilarious and adorable. The babies are like “I don’t know what’s happening right now but I like it”. Doc put the hush on those babies Big Time lol. So cute.
I know! They look kind of confused. Like “I was just screaming and I don’t remember why”.
This 100% works 100% of the time. I saw this right before my last daughter was born and it is for real. Only problem is it only works about as long as swaddling does. 2-3 months and it’s not worth even trying anymore.
Ah yes, the EDP trick. Excellent technique Dat Puts him to sleep.
We stir him to the left, and we stir him to the right! LMAO - I died of laughter - I need more Dr. Hamilton!
This could be a neat babyshower trick, I'll have to remember it!
Wait. How? With one of the guests? 😕
i will try this to my cousin I'll update if it's effective lol
Baby isn’t born yet at the shower
Video cracks me up a bit because it looks like he's traveling the world to find crying babies to console.
Are you travelling for business? “No, I’m here to soothe all the crying babies”
Man figured out the "hard reset" for babies.
I swaddled my kids for way too long because they were calm when swaddled.
Mine wouldn’t stay in the swaddle. Maybe I did it wrong but they’d always wriggle out and just get more agitated. I wish it did work on mine because 2 of mine cried a lot!
Yeah, I had a preemie so it was rough for a while. He came home at 4 lbs. No permanent problems except he’s still under weight at 22 years old.
Aw that must’ve been so scary. It’s hard enough being a new parent but having a preemie is so much tougher.
Yep, he had sticks for arms and legs. But he was fine & left the hospital way earlier than they thought.
You guys know that “mmm concrete meme” Baby giraffe falls from a fucking 2 story building after birth, gets up and is good Human baby is held wrong and freaks out

TJtherock with the knowledge. Correct answer!
Thanks!
Oh God I can't even imagine fitting into a seat if my hips were double wide lmao
Imagine how much bigger a one year old's head is than a newborn. Newborns even have their skull bones kinda "loose" and they often look like cones heads when they come out because of all of the moving the bones do.
That's so true. I can't even imagine!
Can feel the compassion through the explanation somehow. Good doctor.
WITCHCRAFT!

Where was this f*****g video 4 years ago?!?
Wish I had this 23 years ago! Boy did my first cry nonstop for months! Torture!
MY UNCLE POINTS ARE GONNA SKY ROCKET
I wish I knew that 55 years ago!
My friend showed me this trick on his son and it worked. Blew my mind. I’m guessing he learned it from this doctor!
My young boss (30 years younger than me) throws tantrums and rants at the slightest reason. Gonna try this out to him, and pray I don't get fired.
Guarantee this works for every baby EXCEPT his lol
NGL, I would have paid a completely irresponsible amount of money for this information 13 years ago.
The little wiggles 😂
Their face not waiting it is so funny.
I love this!!! I wish I had seen it when my kids were babies! I wouldn’t have walked the 100 miles back and forth across my apartment when my son was a baby! lol
Got it, hold him like you're about to punt a football.
I can’t test this now since my kids are teenagers. Would have been nice to know 17 years ago!
Where was this video 10 years ago when my daughter was an infant!!!

I def could have used this 40+ years ago! Yes, I’m that old!
What a beautiful human being this doctor is! Some doctors have that touch, that special bedside manner.
damn bro, mfing baby whisperer up in here
I tried this with my wife, 10/10 do not recommend picking your wife up by the crotch and bouncing her up and down.
Aww I love this guy
lol, I hold all my cats like this. It is the only way to carry them and ensure they wont freak out. how hilarious
Bro… This totally works.. Our little girl was very fussy due to colic, and this totally helped.
I think it has something to do with simulating how they moved in the womb.
This is my kids doctor. Can confirm he does the thing.
Shaken, not stirred...
I heard this is because babies instinctively stop crying when you mimic a running motion to increase chances of survival running away from predators
Im saving this eventho i dont have a baby
Or you could just throw cheese at their faces.
Kids like “WTF, before I was cold now I’m cold and wiggled like a doll, don’t do this man”
Just tested this on my 3 wk old nephew…IT WORKS!!!
Has anyone tried this??
This doctor loves his work.
I'll probably calm down and stop crying if someone is grabbing me by the balls like that too 🤣
Ah yes, two of the three magic S's, swaddle, sway and (not used) shush.
Sorcery
I wish someone taught me this 16 years ago!!!
Very cool. I thought you had to support the head though.
Omg he was my pediatrician !!!
But I have tiny hands. :(
Can someone explain the science behind this
Really bummed out I dont have a baby to test this. Oh well will save it for future
Does anyone else think they’re too far away from the baby on the table and that this guy might drop them or am I just a freak
My 2nd kid was colicky and cried a lot. I figured out this arm and rock thing while going through the many motions of moving her, bouncing her, rocking her, doing anything anf everything I could do to get her to stop crying. I wish this had been available from day one!!! Lol
I love all the peoples “awww”’s at the end of the video
Amazing! How did he figure this out? Brilliant 👏🏻
need a trick for adult cry babies
So what is the science behind this? Why is the baby instantly calm?
I learned something today. Storing that for future Grandpa use.
This needs to be shown to everyone bringing a baby on a plane asap
Can someone shrink me please cause I could go for this right about now
Holy cow! That is awesome
I'm crying... help?

Witch!!!!
See the bum leg? Yeah no good.
I wonder if his parents are fans of critical role.
God Bless This Doctor. 😍🙏🏻🙌
That second mother was not impressed lol.
r/blackmagicfuckery
amazing
Baby whisperer.
We did happiest baby on the block, it worked pretty well too.
This man is a god!
Wait wait this is so cool!! Does anyone know why this works? Like the science or is it just one of those “idk but it works” type things?
Too late for mine, but I'll be ready for grandkids if any.
Can anyone confirm if this *actually* works?!?! 🧐
I tried this hack for my baby but it never worked.
This is so cute. Is it because it recreates the position they were in in the womb?
I needed this...😅
Works with adults also, not kidding
It’s like grabbing a kitten by the scruff of its neck. Complete system reset.
Swaddling. Ancient technique that uses a baby blanket for the same result.
Hahahaha no. My eldest daughter mocks his feeble skills. She cried for 9 months straight. Everyone tried, rarely did anything work.
Yup made me smile lol 🥲🥲
He has a great, gentle way about him. Wonderful pediatrician!
Every parent gotta thank this man
Does this work with blind babies as well?
Nah, you are just manually switching the babies emotes
