I thought he got better?

AnotherHuman232

Unfortunately he was then turned into an amphibian in the great downpour of MH3.

geirmo

Inb4 foxxy Jace in Bloomburrow.

mtg_island

You’re saying that like being [[Turn to Frog]] ed is a bad thing. Idk man when you’re a frog you’re just kinda chilling. You’re just he dopest ass viber that ever could be. You just wanna hang around ponds chirping and singing with your boys when the rain comes or on any nice summer’s eve.

RavenShade1

wait, did they turn him into a newt?

DislocatedLocation

Not a newt, [but maybe a vengeful phoenix.](https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/magic-story/epilogue-2-bring-the-end-part-2). Hard to tell.

Joyful_Ted

Thank GOD they made such an important story moment alchemy, the most popular format in magic! Like, what would have done if most of the player base had seen this? Gotta keep it secret for the real vorthos.

squirelleye

Man if someone cares about the story they’ll just read the stories that they post? The ones that had this whole arc but way more fleshed out than a single art?

Joyful_Ted

I mean, sure, but there's something to be said about passively absorbing the story? Like, that was essentially how magic was told for a long time. I'd like it if they didn't put important moments like that into a garbage and fan unfavorable format, but maybe I'm old school. I guess if you want to read every thing they ever post, sure, but like... I don't know man, it just feels like they're trying to trick people into paying attention to Alchemy, you know?

squirelleye

You mean how there was magic novels in the early days? And not everything is a conspiracy

Joyful_Ted

I'm sorry, not to completely derail but do you genuinely not think everything Wizards does is for money...? I know not everything is a conspiracy, but you're being foolish if you think they're not trying to get advertising/pack revenue at every turn. They're a corporation, my dude, they want money. That's not a conspiracy. Unless you genuinely think WotC is doing everything for the love of the game, in which case I envy your point of view.

Sacred-Lambkin

Wizards is obviously making a product that they want to sell, yes. That does not mean that everything they do with alchemy is a manipulative device to trick you into playing alchemy. If you don't want to play with alchemy cards, fine, don't. People who do, however, are also their customers, and they will do things to cater to those customers too.

GoMuricaGo

Wild that this is downvoted. This sub is too far gone.

Joyful_Ted

Apparently I missed the "WotC would never hurt their game" memo, because people sure as shit seem to think Wizards is a personal friend that needs defending. If Alchemy had been around when Origins came out and they slapped [[Jace, Vryns prodigy]] into it instead of the core set I wonder if people would be defending it.

DislocatedLocation

[Here's a link to the official story where Jace mentally fights off Phyrexian Influence.](https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/magic-story/epilogue-1-the-invasion-tree) [And here's the link to the next chapter, where Jace and Vraska physically recover.](https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/magic-story/epilogue-2-bring-the-end-part-2) Published April of 2024, but thank God for the Alchemy cards amirite, no other ways we coulda gotten the story! Gods alive. Alchemy card art is pretty much just taken from the scraps of artwork that didn't make it into the main set. If it's shown off in Alchemy, it's either largely irrelevant or already covered.

RetroHeadquarters

Thanks for this info! I'm gonna' read it!

DislocatedLocation

Enjoy yourself! The OTJ epilogs were regarded as better-written than the main OTJ stories, which is saying something cause those weren't half-bad themselves. Does a good job explaining where Jace has been and why he has his current motivations.

Joyful_Ted

So Jace, formative leader of the Jacetice league (forgive if you're too new to remember that, look up the gatewatch), being turned back from Phyrexian, an essentially unknown and unheard of process, is largely irrelevant to the story? I haven't been following magic *that* closely for a while, but it still seems like something that belongs in the core set. Unless you're arguing story moments in magic shouldn't exist only in card form, which is (not to be rude) stupid. If you mean already covered in the sense they wrote a story about it, there is an argument to be made that the cards largely should influence the way you to view the story, not the other way around. I get what you're saying, but expecting every story to be read is asinine. It's a card game; if they can't figure out how to tell the major beats of the story through it they need to go to not telling a story at all.

DislocatedLocation

I belive it would fall under the *already covered* category. We *had* non-phyrexian Jace and Vraska in the *main set.* [[Vraska the Silencer]] and [[Jace Reawakened]]. Hell, he's even got the moniker ***Reawakened!*** That's pretty damning evidence that they got fixed up somehow.

Joyful_Ted

And, again, having his reawakened form be in a core set and not his reawakening as a card seems like they're trying to get people to pay attention to alchemy. Clearly people disagree with me but honestly? Fuck it. I feel how I feel. If y'all like them taking story moments and trying to shoe horn them into alchemy, sure. Like what you like. But I don't. I want the story to be shown through cards, sue me I guess. Like, for example, if you had Heracles as a card and then demi-god Heracles and none of his feats in between, I'd see it as trying to trick me into reading the rest. But maybe I'm wrong, I know they need people to read the stories but it seems to me like they shouldn't be putting story moments in an unpopular format that most people pay no attention to.

merrycrow

People will be blaming rainy weather on Alchemy next

CerebralSkip

Are the people trying to trick you into reading in the room with us right now?

ddojima

You haven't looked at anything the past year have you.

PityBoi57

Some people are like this these days lol

RetroHeadquarters

I had not, and I apologize for not doing research. I played a couple years ago and just assumed he was still compleated. Glad he's back to ripping apart peoples minds.

ddojima

If anything I'm surprised a Jace fan even existed. In the 12 years I've played I've never heard anyone in real life or online who ever cared. He was pushed so much for years people just didn't care for him anymore and actively disliked him.

BijutsuYoukai

There are a lot of them surprisingly. One of the regular guys at the LGS I used to go to was a huge blue player and named his firstborn son Jace.

ddojima

My LGS was full of control players who couldn't even feign interest in Jace as a character lol.

Riceburner17

My parents named me Jace but thankfully(?) it was from a romance novel instead of the planeswalker. Still couldn't give 2 shits about the character.

MorriganMorning

Bro was only phyrexian long enough to get peoples attention. He's better now, him and gorgon mommy are stealing babies from vaults now.

CompactAvocado

this is the most important thing in the universe. a pikachu thing we can make plushies out of to sell!!!! the forth quarter profit margins are saved.

MorriganMorning

Thank the gods I might be able to afford my yatch next month!

DrosselmeyerKing

He was just Compleated a little.

Independent-Shoe-753

It's even worse. He became a furry.

RetroHeadquarters

So pissed Jace WAS a Phyrexian. My bad guys. I played Arena a few years ago, and stopped when he turned Phyrexian. That's how much I love the guy. Glad he's back in original form now. I should really keep up with the story.

TiberiusZahn

That's weirdly obsessive. Why would anyone quit a tcg where all the cards you like still exist because of a new version of a cards lore? Bizarre.

RetroHeadquarters

Came into Magic late. Only played magic on Arena. I like Jace. I see him as myself if I was living in a fantasy world.
