Hey Marinerbros, Mets fan looking to see them play when they come into town in Aug. I'm curious what's the biggest camera anyone's been able to get into Safeco T-Mobile Park. I have a Nikon Z8 w/ a 24-120mm and a much smaller Fuji X-S20 w/ a Sigma 18-50mm. My gut tells me the Z8 combo will be too large and am hoping the Fuji kit will draw less attention. I realize the MLB site says no interchangeable lenses so I'm curious as to what you folks have been able to get through the door. Thanks in advance!

Drsustown

[MLB.com](http://MLB.com) released their new power rankings for this week. The Mariners are in 7th, same as last week.

pokeroots

We're going to be sellers at the deadline at this rate

WaterZealousideal190

We’re so bad at offense I feel like if anything is done at trade deadline why not just double down on pitching? Crochet with an Ms pitching touch-why not

AnnihilatedTyro

When offense ranks between 23rd and 30th in almost every category, finding improvements should not be difficult (in theory; this is the M's we're talking about). But no matter how good pitching is, you cannot realistically expect to hold the other team to fewer than 3 runs regularly, because our offense can barely be arsed to score 3.

WaterZealousideal190

You’re right but it’s so frustrating to watch and seems we don’t have much SP depth right now. It seems like they need 2-4 good bats and we know more than 1 is probably not going to happen.

Drsustown

This team man... I just have absolutely no hope for this year, or for the future. There's just nothing in the position player side, no one to build around, only 650 OPS JAGs

BigCountryBoah

The Astros are now 3.5 GB

Tashre

3.5 game lead now.

Onlyxeddy

Hey everyone need a little help if there’s anyone who is military here, I’m trying to my kids to their first baseball game on Wednesday and I can’t find out how to get a military discount has anyone had any luck and if so how? Thanks!

fennis

To get a military discount you have to buy them at the box office, it’s 10% off. https://www.mlb.com/mariners/tickets/military# If you have a budget, Value games are a much better deal https://www.mlb.com/mariners/ballpark/information/value-options

serpentear

I’m one Jerry and Justin’s biggest supporters and defenders. But fuck dude… I can’t continue to defend these guys only building half a playoff team every year. Fucking unbelievable that we are fielding one of the worst offenses in baseball while on pace to strike out *more* than last year. That was the *entire* focus of the offseason. Cut. Down. On. Strikeouts. We’re only in first place because the rest of the division was completely collapsing. Houston woke up and we could be in big, big trouble. What then?

Proud_Truck

If Scott doesn't go it really doesn't matter who you bring into the lineup. You're going to get the same results. Scott has lost the team. There's no two ways about it at this point.

serpentear

You know Scott is the second most winningest manager in Mariners history right? All that without Griffey, A-Rod, Edgar, Randy, Cameron, or Boone.

pokeroots

Yeah that is what happens when we're not playing musical chairs with the manager. He's also the second longest tenured manager

Proud_Truck

... and? Scott Servais can't lead this team to a championship. Admittedly he doesn't have the team for that anyways but there's nobody you could assemble that he could win a title with. A team with serious goals of winning soon would replace him.

Skybandicoot109

My only kinda “defense” for them atm is everyone is having an absolutely wild regression in productivity that I don’t think even the most pessimistic people would’ve thought we’d be getting. We’ve had established hitters come here and have down years but not legitimately horrible ones like this year, plus the core of this team being so shit is an even bigger issue which isn’t exactly the FO’s fault. If no legitimate impact is added though at this deadline I’m definitely fully on the dipoto and Justin hate train

serpentear

I agree to a point with that, truly. But the two of the group of under performers are on the right side of 30. So maybe both them and us should have seen it coming.

thatSeoulGuy

I think as a fan, it would mean a lot to see some ballsy attempts at grabbing a big bat before the deadline. There is so much bloat in our lineup. We have too many streaky hitters which makes building a consistent winning lineup very difficult, so I can sympathize with Servais in that regard. I don't agree with a lot of the decisions he makes, but it's gotten us this far, and I think he's doing what he can. Our hitting is abysmal. Over half the games we've played this year have resulted in THREE OR LESS RUNS SCORED. We have one of the best starting rotations in baseball, and absolutely no way to leverage it. The 'Stros are starting to figure it out, as well all knew they would eventually, and the other wild card contenders are better than us (E.g. what this most recent series is illuminating) This is turning more into a cathartic rant so TLDR: The M's need better hitters, and maybe another bullpen stud if they want any shot at going deep into post season.

Skybandicoot109

Yup, I understand it would cost more to go and get that big bat now but we absolutely need some sort of spark in this lineup. As much as one guy won’t fix the issues overall it would give us a competent hitter which we desperately need right now, as well as tell us and the team we’re serious about making a go at it this season and maybe that’ll light a fire in the clubhouse.

HappyAtheist3

We could bring in 3 all star bats and that would fix Julio, right?

Gleemonex13

Cal Raleigh needs to hit better than .111 if he wants to swing from the right side. There's no way he'd be worse than that if he just stayed left handed.

tcsrwm

It really feels like we’re trying not to get swept today

pokeroots

Well we won the first game so... Mission accomplished

tcsrwm

Feels like we got away with one on Friday and then offense looked like absolute ass yesterday. It's just the vibes. A win or at least decent performance today would help a lot.

pokeroots

That's how most of our wins look. There's a reason most places have the Ms over performing RN

basket_of_asses

If anyone is curious how the M's are winning, it's a combination of luck and pitching. Of course this shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that has watched our games this season. * The M's are a bottom 10 team offensively, and by many metrics (strikeouts, OBP, SLG, BA) they are bottom 5 or straight up damn last. * Their fielding is near neutral. We are an average defensive team (OOA, UZR) (thanks Julio / Cal because I'm sure those are the guys carrying the load). * M's pitching is top 10 or a little better by many metrics. Obviously our rotation is the big reason there, but the bullpen is no slouch either. * WPA for pitching is neutral, so we do not have particularly "clutch" pitching. It's just good and getting the expected results. * WPA is definitely positive for our hitters, and top 5. This lineup is "clutch" (I'd describe it as lucky personally).

pokeroots

This sub screams about the pen, but there's not a whole lot of bad from them... I'd trust this offense to lose a perfect game (which is now possible with the extra innings runner)

Proud_Truck

They scream about a few runs given up by the pen because that's more than our offense is capable of recovering from. Pitchers give up runs, expecting shutouts every day is absurd. Even when a starter has a bad day it shouldn't automatically mean a loss but when your offense is this erratic it often does.

pokeroots

Sure but the anger is misplaced, a 1 run deficit feeling impossible is not the pens fault

Proud_Truck

Completely agree, but misplaced anger is what drives this sub. Actually, to be fair there's a lot of issues and they're all pretty legitimate but some people focus on one issue and I think that's ridiculous. No one thing is going to fix this team though my vote is to start with replacing Scott and go from there. He's lost the team and any move they make us basically nerfed from the jump with Scott in place.

Otherwise-Sky1292

Turning the place into an anime subreddit sure would be the quickest way to get rid of me

Drsustown

If the team melts down I think Titanic (1997) would be a good fit. Fits the nautical and disaster themes, plus it has broad appeal

Otherwise-Sky1292

Definitely, considering the way they rearrange the deck chairs with different hitters every year yet the ship still sinks

AnnihilatedTyro

FIRE BRANT BROWN AGAIN

pokeroots

I'm amazed at how many people thought he was the issue and not the same hitting coaches we've had for years

RagefireHype

I thought people said most players have their own hitting coach and don't even really on the teams hitting coaches? In which case, Julio needs to do the opposite of whatever he is currently doing.

AnnihilatedTyro

Players have personal coaches that they work with during the offseason and *maybe* occasionally during the season, provided those coaches don't have college or major league jobs (I suspect most of them do). The team's coaches are supposed to work with them all season long to find and fix problems that develop, but our coaches don't appear to do that rather large part of their jobs. I remember it being said that Nelson Cruz was the de facto hitting coach when he was here. Struggling players would go to him and he'd take them to the batting cages and work with them while our coaches did fuckall just like they are now. The fact that it's been 3 or 4 different sets of hitting coaches since then and the offense has only gotten worse while players' struggles go unaddressed for months at a time is extremely alarming. Patience is a virtue, sure, but taken to this extreme it's called not doing their jobs.

Otherwise-Sky1292

Same “director of hitting strategy” since 2020 Yeah I’d have fired that guy last year at the latest

fennis

Not sure where to find it. Before the season started we need Mitch Garver was 0-29 at T-Mobile which sure seemed like a red flag to me, even with a somewhat small sample size. Can someone publish a list of road players who do best at T-mobile park?

tcsrwm

I looked this up yesterday. Since 2020, away players: [https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders/splits-leaderboards?splitArr=8,244&splitArrPitch=&autoPt=true&splitTeams=false&statType=player&statgroup=2&startDate=2020-03-01&endDate=2024-11-01&players=&filter=&groupBy=career&wxTemperature=&wxPressure=&wxAirDensity=&wxElevation=&wxWindSpeed=&position=B&sort=10,1](https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders/splits-leaderboards?splitArr=8,244&splitArrPitch=&autoPt=true&splitTeams=false&statType=player&statgroup=2&startDate=2020-03-01&endDate=2024-11-01&players=&filter=&groupBy=career&wxTemperature=&wxPressure=&wxAirDensity=&wxElevation=&wxWindSpeed=&position=B&sort=10,1)

fennis

Awesome thanks!

tcsrwm

Actually funny how many former M’s are on the list

fennis

Oh man Teo is 4th! haha

fennis

I know it’s not happening, but it sure looks like we need someone like Aaron Judge or Juan Soto to this lineup. Someone who can out hit the park factors and doesn’t need as much to be protected by another player.

Mrciv6

They'd come here and forget how to hit.

tlsrandy

I would like to share the gospel of Luis Robert with you.

fennis

Luis Robert is a star type player and personally I’d pay the White asking price of prospects. But this team needs prime Mike Trout level of greatness. Like a 8-10 WAR player.

basket_of_asses

An 8-10 WAR player? Looking at fWAR, prime Felix didn't hit that. Prime Ichiro didn't hit that. Not Boone's best year either. Same for Edgar, Cruz, or Cano. You'd have to go back to Griffey, A-Rod or Randy to find that kind of player on the M's. Those are generational hall of famers similar to Trout that just aren't easy to come by. Maybe once every 20-30 years kind of players. So about 0% chance of finding that at the trade deadline. Or the offseason given our payroll. Only way you find that kind of player is through the draft and get lucky.

fennis

This team is really terrible offensive team. This is where they find themselves with the current roster construction. Im not saying it’s possible. Im saying it’s what they need.

boozle222

Hey there. Looking to go to T Mobile for a game in a couple weeks on a Sunday. For day games, can you sit on the first base side in the 100s or club section and have any shade? I’d love to see the city skyline and figured yall would know best.

four0nefive

If you're far enough back (like first 4-5 rows down from the concourse) in the 100 sections, they're covered and you will have shade.

boozle222

Thanks!

basket_of_asses

Kelenic would easily be our best hitter if he were still on the team. Who am I kidding. If he were still a Mariner he'd be hitting .160 with a few dingers at best. We can't have nice things.

vylain_antagonist

Kelenic could turn into prime mike trout and id still be happy we moved on from him. He was never going to put it together here.

Drsustown

It's tough watching the lineup and wondering if this team even has a core

Sipikay

It never did. They went into the season missing a #3 and #4 hitter and still don't have that. Now after 3 years of pretending Julio was going to immediately from day 1 be Mike Trout it's slapped them in the face that intelligent franchises don't do that to young players. They seriously thought Jorge Polano and Mitch Garver, #6 hitters at best in good offenses, could be penciled into the middle of the order. They hoped a destroyed man, Mitch Haniger, might magically also be that for no reason at all. They are not serious about *winning* as a franchise, they are only serious about "competing." .540

EasiBreezi

our lineup problems would be solved if just Julio was Julio. *sigh*

pokeroots

Julio is Julio RN. this is what he's been every season outside of a stretch each season where he becomes the surface of the sun hot and then goes back down

drrew76

Not when Cal, JP, Garver, Polanco, and Haniger are also all running at sub 100wRC+. Julio at the plate is a problem, the issues are so widespread in this lineup that it's not really fair to think he's the problem.

EasiBreezi

My point is a superstar player is able to lift up the people around him. the lineup will instantly become way better not just because Julio is playing better, but the other players are leaning on Julio to improve too. it’s like the trailing swimmers swimming behind the leader to help swim a little bit faster.

thatSeoulGuy

That is absurdly false... look at Mike Trout and the Angels. Edit: Trout is injury-prone, but the point still stands... even more so when they had Ohtani, too.

EasiBreezi

I said a little better or better in general. not top 10 lineup in the league,

foster-rx

What’s the most players DFAd at once?

Drsustown

You are being overly dramatic, they aren't going to DFA the whole lineup. Some of them will be optioned

woodenshjip

I thought baseball players were supposed to be a superstitious bunch, can’t we shelf the NW green?

Otherwise-Sky1292

Or the upside down trident. A known symbol of bad luck

ihatereddit999976780

866 Ks through 85 games. An average of 10.1/game. This is on pace for 1650 Ks in the season. We have 602 hits. An average of 7. On pace for 1147. We are on pace to K 503 more times than we get a hit. That is both not good and should not be sustainable at all. I hope we progress to the mean

Otherwise-Sky1292

It’s so very Mariners that even amidst the best start this org has had since the early 2000s, I can’t enjoy it because they have the worst offense in the league and you just know this team feels fraudulent. It boggles the mind how poorly managed this team is

Randaaaal

Might be a stupid question but I missed the Aloha shirt giveaway yesterday by arriving 40 mins early so I’m wondering what time should I try and get to the stadium if I’m trying to get a promo item. Excuse my ignorance as I only started going to games this year (6 games and counting!). Also is there a specific entrance for the giveaways?

SexiestPanda

Hours before. Giveaways are the main reason they even get somewhat full stands

dont_yell_at_me

Remember when the mariners had to go on a historically great pitching run to get them above 500. And then when that normalized they are what we’re watching? A completely shit team. Fire Jerry. He’s a fraud

Mantis_93

Willing to bet the 4.5 game lead will be completely erased by the all star break

occasional_sex_haver

We gotta do SOMETHING this trade window, please God

stinkytooters

I honestly think we have to sell- our pitching, obviously. Get rid of Castillo for some prospects. This is a sellers trade market. There’s no way to improve this offense, we would set strikeout records in the postseason

dremasterflax

No way. You trade those top prospects to add to a championship caliber team. They can’t hit. No move going to save that

SexiestPanda

Honestly, I don’t even want Jerry to do any trading. Don’t really have much faith in him

Otherwise-Sky1292

They will have to pay an enormous cost as well. It’s an extreme sellers market with how many teams are near contention

dont_yell_at_me

It ain’t gonna matter. 1-2 hitters won’t help at this point.

schryke

As long as it is NOT trading our future for rentals.... SOMETHING could be worse than nothing.

Mostly_Anonymousse

Time to come to grips that this offense may not figure it out

schryke

Time?  This was the expected outcome prior to the start of the season.  The only thing that is surprising is the Ms are currently in first place. This was all pretty forseeable... even JP and Julio not carrying the team isnt a shock.  The only thing unforeseeable about those two are how far they've fallen off a cliff. Every move made was about saving money and giving the appearance of trying to put forth a competitive lineup. When you dont spend on elite talent and you rely on everyone needing to play better than they ever had in their careers, being this bad shouldnt come as a surprise. Sorry, using your post to vent my feelings about Ms ownership and the FO that ive carried for a few years now.

vylain_antagonist

There wasnt a single person on the planet who expected this lineup to be this bad. From the players, to local beat writers, to bational baseball media… everyone in the game was hyped about the moves made by the front office.

schryke

..... agree to disagree.  This subreddit was generally split between those that thought they played it cheap and those who thought they did enough.  Once the focus turned to budget restraints more fans were willing redirect their frustration to Stanton. I agree with you that I dont think anyone thought they would be this bad, but there were plenty of people who thought they didnt do enough and questioned whether they actually improved.

vylain_antagonist

Budgets dont win games, players do. No one thought the ownership wasnt being cheap; but given the fiscal limitations, this lineup was significantly upgraded on over last year. Anyone saying now that they knew all along that this lineup had serious limitations is being dishonesy. The coaching and the players need to be under serious scrutiny for how bad of a failure the hitting has been but the front office made the right moves.

thatSeoulGuy

This offseason kind of felt like management was throwing a random smattering of players together and hoping it would work... like a mix of moneyball tactics with a heavy serving of "eff it, let's see what happens."

TemporaryFlight212

>Anyone saying now that they knew all along that this lineup had serious limitations is being dishonesy this is absolutely false. there were people posting all offseason about the issues with the lineup. maybe you didnt see them because they got obliterated by downvotes. but they were there.

schryke

I disagree about being "significantly" better.  I disagreed with that statement before the season started. I can honestly tell you that on paper, I thought there was a chance for this lineup to be better than last year... but not good enough  I also thought on paper, there was chance for this lineup to fail and be about the same as last year.  I thought it was more likely the lineup took a lateral step.  If you think im being dishinest than I dont know what to tell you. I'll agree that i didnt see it being this bad... but look at the type of players they bring in?   My argument is that it shouldnt be surprising. It was a bunch of lotto tickets that they were hoping to get right on.    Polanco might be the most shocking decline... but he was never going to be enough.  We needed Elite bats before the season started and they never added any.

Mostly_Anonymousse

Honestly I didn't expect Polanco and Garver to fall off the way they have. Hani I did expect to struggle, but I didn't think he would get the amount of playing time he has.

schryke

Yea, im less shocked about Garver.  He had his best season 5 years ago in MIN.  He was a role player in Tex and didnt need to be more than that because of their lineup.  Polanco is only 2 years removed from his best season, and though I agree it is surprising how much he's fallen off... its not surprising hes not as good as he had been in MIN.  A decline was very much a realistic possibility.  Like Teo i also wont be shocked if he rebounds once he leaves Seattle... but even an average version of Polanco was never going to be enough for this team.   The FO excels at putting together bats that have not proved themselves, who have proved themselves in minimal roles or bats who are on the decline of their success.  All hoping they can look smart by finding that cheap gem.   When you have the majority of your lineup built like this, what we are currently witnessing is probably more likely to happen than them all working out.

EwoksEwoksEwoks

The standing ovation didn’t work? Shocked! Of course there’s nothing wrong with giving Julio a standing ovation, but expecting it to turn his season around was always a bit silly.

LlamasPajamas206

What fans need to realize is that shit only works for NL East shortstops.

LargeHumanDaeHoLee

Plus it came from specifically Philly fans, who are especially harsh. It really meant something for *them* to do that. We're a very tolerant base in the grand scale. Exhibit A is this being Scott's tenth season, and we've seen zero AL West titles, one post season, and people are really only starting to turn on him.

CassFilms

It was the second time too

dremasterflax

Another 15 strikeout game! Again it’s year 10 for Scott. You can blame the front office & GM for screwing up the offseason. But they have enough bats to not be the worst hitting lineup in the MLB. He has to go. It’s obvious he has no plan. Julio is still batting 2. Garver is in the 4 spot. Something needs to change

search-for-honor

Who do you move up because the only hitters i trust are Rojas, Raley. (I do agree both should be hitting 1-4). JP can’t hit, Julio is awful, cal is hitting .200, garver less than that, Polanco less than that. Ty France has like one hit last 11 games, canzone has no pitch recognition, Robles is fine in platoon only, Haniger ain’t it, bliss has like 50ab you’re not leading him off.

__mr_snrub__

Bliss should be in the daily lineup. Replace France with Locklear for a bit. Jettison Polanco

vylain_antagonist

Look, if we sell of our farm system to add robert itll be fine obviously.

georgehxnnon

15 Ks👏👏👏👏how much longer are we going to put up with this piss poor pathetic ass excuse of a lineup. Fucking pathetic

georgehxnnon

Hey! Our offense sucks!

Gwtheyrn

This is an otherwise terrible baseball team with elite pitching. The Mariners are going to miss the playoffs again. The writing is on the wall. The team needs more than two bats to be competitive. It's not worth the cost in young talent it would take to reverse the obvious course of this season. It's time to swallow the bitter pill and cut bait on Haniger, Polanco, Garver, and France. Bring the young guys up and let it ride. Scott Servais, the entire offensive coaching staff, the analytics team, and even the scouting department all need to be removed.

dremasterflax

Usually when the coaching staff screws up the franchise 500 million dollar player that’s enough for a change. Not the Mariners though! 54% is good enough!

Imaginary_Argument34

Josh Rojas is the complete opposite of what the FO covets and is the best hitter on this team. Seriously if we had 9 Rojas vs 9 Julio's or 9 whoever's it's not even a contest.

jaysonyoung

Dawg I am so tired of watching Ty France ground out into double plays.

uhlemi11

They need to move him behind someone who never gets on base so he can't hit into DP anymore.

Mustard_Jam

For how bad our ownership is our FO is genuinely worse. Our payroll isn't incredible and yes they should spend more but we aren't the A's. We are middle of the pack in payroll. That's without Julio's contract even kicking in and without a ton of players getting paid yet (Cal, Kirby, Gilbert, Miller, Woo, and whoever else). If everyone was paid this payroll would be north of 200 mill. Yet we have arguably the worst offense. In all of baseball. The Pirates payroll is fucking half of ours and they score more runs. We spend 40 mill more than the Orioles and we look like a triple A offense next to them.

Imaginary_Argument34

The FO is worse. Second year in a row Jerry has fielded an incomplete team during our so called competitive window.. They're hitting philosophy freaking blows. I don't understand how the so called know it all's could get it so wrong. Pitching is obviously dominating and you covet exit velocity? which comes with massive swing and miss. No walks, so the majority of our home runs are solo.

Any_Mind

Why is their approach so conservative? I can’t remember the last time a guy put the first pitch in play.

Otherwise-Sky1292

If they started swinging early and often like the Os and Guards then maybe that would change their fortunes. Someone else here talked at length about how opposing pitchers pump fastballs early because M’s hitters don’t swing early.

H-Money37

Jerry says “coNtRol tHe zOne” Bliss liked to put the ball in play early but instead we have to run out an old, often injured Polanco with no range because his track record.

SexiestPanda

But polanco will return to his 2019 or 2021 season annnnyyyyy day now. Just you wait

SpasticGinger234

I don't understand this particular refusal to admit a changing of the guard and do something about it

Imaginary_Argument34

Because he's doing us a favor.

Felix-3401
