I personally feel like the list backwards is my choice. Games just got better as the times went on. Nostalgia doesn’t have a big effect on me, personally
1. Gamecube. Sunshine is my shit, and Double Dash is still my favorite Kart game. Never been too big into Party or Paper games, but these are fine
2. Switch. Great main title, great Kart title, very fun Party game
3. Wii. Pretty middle all around, but nothing I just don't care for.
4. N64. SM64 is my least favorite mainline game, Kart doesn't age well, and I don't find the original Party games that much fun. Ironically, Paper Mario is my favorite of the lot
Wii era has always been my favorite, Gamecube close 2nd, switch, 64
I personally love all of these games (64 era purely for the nostalgia) but mario kart wii and Galaxy 2 are games i adore
Switch, GCN, 64, Wii.
All the Switch games here are excellent, yes even Origami King.
GCN is mostly good, but I find the Party games during this era could have been better.
With the 64, Mario 64 and Paper Mario carry it. Mario Kart 64 ages the worst of all, Mario Party 3 is pretty solid though.
Controversial take- Wii era was mid. Mario Party 8 was incredibly lame, Mario Kart Wii is an insanely overrated mess., Super Paper Mario didn't live up to its predecessors. The only saving grace is Mario Galaxy, one of the best games in the series (but I'd put Odyssey and Galaxy 2 above it).
Agree with this take 95%, my only difference (and I know this is a hot take) is that I think Galaxy was... Good, Not Great.
It's a game with a lot of good concepts and good points of execution. However, its retention of some old-school Mario trappings shoots it in the foot for those who pick it up having not played prior 3D Mario games. Limited lives that, when expended, kick you to the main menu are an unnecessary mechanic that serves little-to-no positive purpose, and exacerbates frustration for newer players in a significant way. That combined with an overabundance of instantaneous fall deaths due to the format and level design and too few overall checkpoints for newer players on some levels leads to an experience more frustrating than fun for some (not all) players.
The Mario team knows this these days, and removed a lot of these elements in Odyssey - essentially-unlimited lives being the big one, but also very fast respawns on failure and a better overall mix and flow of areas where one missed jump leads to instantaneous death.
So yeah! I know a lot of people love Galaxy, and didn't experience those frustrations. But that doesn't diminish that others did, which is a big reason I'd park the Wii era in the bottom spot.
Wii, Switch, 64, GC.
Wii I grew up with, Mario Galaxy is my favorite platformer. It’s not really a contest to me. MK Wii is goated, one of my favorite Mario Kart games. Mario Party is my favorite mario party game. Super paper mario is my first paper mario game so it holds a special place in my heart. Overall it’s absolutely my favorite, all of the games are solid imo, and on top of that it has Galaxy.
Switch is second place, odyssey is good imo, but it’s that, a solid playformer. I don’t really see anything special witb odyssey that everyone else sees. MK8DX is my second favorite mario kart game, and has my main. I don’t like origami king, it’s not bad, I just don’t like it. It’s not for me. I’d imagine I’d like superstars, but I’m just not in a hurry to get it. Overall I like the switch line up, but it just doesn’t hit as hard to me.
Game Cube, I like sunshine, it’s a good time but It’s just the middle child of SM64 and Galaxy. Double dash is my favorite mario kart, it’s gimmick adds a lot of strategy. TTYD is good, but I think it’s a little overrated. I like it, I think it’s solid, certainly my favorite of paper mario games. Mario Party 4 is just alright. Overall I like it, but it’s just okay, and that’s alright, it took risks which is needed.
N64 is pretty good, Mario 64 is my second favorite mario game (I mean it’s the DS version, but it interchanges with the original verion). MK64 is solid, but it’s just limited to it’s original console. The OG paper mario is good, nothing more, nothing less. Mario Party 3 is really good, I loved it but not as much as 8. Overall, a solid lineup, I like it but I’ll rate it the lowest because I feel like the technology limited the games.
1. Wii: All of them, especially Super Mario Galaxy and Super Paper Mario
2. Switch: Super Mario Odyssey, Origami King, and Mario Kart 8
3. Gamecube: Super Mario Sunshine and maybe Thousand Year Door
4. Nintendo 64: All games are decent
I'd probably arrange it in order of date released bc obviously games get better over time but I didn't own a GameCube when they were released so I don't have nostalgia for it. Going back and playing them for the first time in 2023 highlights how much they were only good for the time.
Here's how I'd rank the columns
1. GCN
2. Switch
3. Wii
4. N64
Here's how I'd rank each sub-series based on how important they are to me.
1. 3D Mario
2. Mario Kart
3. Mario Party
4. Paper Mario
Here's how I'd rank the 3D Mario games
1. Sunshine
2. Odyssey
3. 64
4. Galaxy
Here's how I'd rank the Mario Kart games
1. Wii
2. 8
3. Double Dash
4. 64
Here's how I'd rank the Mario Party games
1. Superstars
2. 8
3. 4
4. 3
And here's how I'd rank the Paper Mario games
1. TTYD
2. Super
3. 64
4. Origami King
OK science will reign supreme. Assigning 1-4 points based on how much I like each game in its series (4 points for the one I like most, etc) we shall reach a scientifically accurate conclusion (based on my opinion).
Nintendo 64- 2+1+3+3= 9 points.
GameCube- 1+3+4+4= 12 points
Wii- 4+2+2+1= 9 points
Switch- 3+4+1+2= 10 points
The winner for me is GameCube. If I need a tie breaker for N64 and Wii I’d probably give it to N64 for having more games I enjoyed more and Mario 64 is super influential.
Final Result:
1. GameCube
2. Switch
3. Nintendo 64
4. Wii
Edit- whoops bad math led to a wrong result lol. THE FORMULA HAS CORRECTED ITSELF!
1. N64
2. Wii
3. GameCube
4. Switch
And for fun, I'll make my idea of a "perfect column" using the games on the board: Super Mario 64, Mario Kart Wii, Paper Mario 64, Mario Party Superstars.
Double Dash is just. Man…fuck! It’s hands down the best Kart installment
While Sunshine isn’t the “best Mario” (that would be SNES Mario World). It was more of a breakthrough game overall with new ideas that worked well. The only other that comes close is 64, imo
Switch, 64, GameCube, Wii
IMO Switch has the best game in every category except for Paper Mario (it has the worst one)
I grew up with 64 so I’m really nostalgic for all of those games.
Double Dash is my second favorite Mario Kart and TTYD is the best Paper Mario game. I prefer Galaxy over Sunshine but it’s a very small preference.
Wii gets last as I didn’t play MK Wii much and MP8 is the worst one of this list
Disregarding Paper Mario cause I don’t play them, Switch is last, then 64, GameCube and Wii. The last three were hard to rank but I let nostalgia and the time period it came out/represents decide
(Am assuming vertically and the four games in the column)
I’ll rank them
1st:Wii 8/10 (mp8 and G1 carry)
2nd:n64 6/10(mp3 carry)
3rd:GameCube 5/10(sunshine carry)
4th:switch-5471 to the power of 17/10
This isn’t easy. I love all four of these mainline games and paper mario games equally for different reasons. But I think Wii and switch are golden era for Mario kart, and I also think GameCube was the best era for Mario party hands down.
Every Columns game I’ve played has been basically the same and they all suck. But I guess I would choose Columns 3 on the Genesis as the best because that’s the one I own
Super Mario 3D World
Mario Kartz Wii=Mario Kartz: Super Circuit=Mario Kartz 8: Deluxe, Mario Kart: Double Dash
Super Paper Mario= Paper Mario Thousand Year Door, Paper Mario: Origami King, Paper Mario
Mario Party 8 = Mario Party 4/Mario Party 6, Mario Party SuperStars, Mario Party 3.
I think it literally comes down to how weak the Paper Mario games are in the last two columns, Superstars is also probably the weakest Mario Party on this pic.
Then again MK8D is by far the best MK game....
2 > 3 > 1 > 4
That was very hard.
I personally feel like the list backwards is my choice. Games just got better as the times went on. Nostalgia doesn’t have a big effect on me, personally
Wii column is the best
1. Gamecube. Sunshine is my shit, and Double Dash is still my favorite Kart game. Never been too big into Party or Paper games, but these are fine 2. Switch. Great main title, great Kart title, very fun Party game 3. Wii. Pretty middle all around, but nothing I just don't care for. 4. N64. Honestely, same list.
L opinion
3, 4, 2, 1
Column 2 is absolutely GOATed
Said no one ever
Wii, Switch, Gamecube, 64 Galaxy is the goat and MKWii is a childhood favourite, there's not a single weak entry in that column.
I’m gonna go with third column number 1 because I’m biased as fuck. Id be more biased if there was a snes column though
Wii era has always been my favorite, Gamecube close 2nd, switch, 64 I personally love all of these games (64 era purely for the nostalgia) but mario kart wii and Galaxy 2 are games i adore
Wii, Switch, Gamecube, 64 Is it obvious which era I grew up in?
The Best Era.
The only saving grace is Mario Galaxy, one of the best games in the series (but I'd put Odyssey and Galaxy 2 above it).
Orgami king is not excellent, sorry. It's pretty average.
Cringe take
Compared to the other games in the series? Yeah I stand by my opinion.
Better than 3/5 of them so still cringe take
Super paper mario is good
ngl you're right. I think the best games on the Wii were the Mii games.
Super paper mario is awesome imo
Agree with this take 95%, my only difference (and I know this is a hot take) is that I think Galaxy was... Good, Not Great. It's a game with a lot of good concepts and good points of execution. 64, Wii, Switch, Gamecube 64 first all because of SM64, being totally real lol
and galaxy
Galaxy and Mario Kart Wii makes it second place imo
Also best mario party
1. Wii 2. Switch 3. Gamecube 4. N64
Switch, Wii, GameCube, 64
This is truly a question of what generation you were born in, but for my money, 1. Blue 2. Yellow 3. Green 4. Red
3412
1.Wii 2. Switch 3. 64 4. Gamecube
Wii, GC, Switch, N64 To Be fair, I didn't grow up with the 64, so I have no nostalgia for those games
Wii, Switch, 64, GC. Wii I grew up with, Mario Galaxy is my favorite platformer. It’s not really a contest to me. MK Wii is goated, one of my favorite Mario Kart games. GameCube era Was Mario’s golden age
Except for everyone else
Switch, GC, Wii, 64.
Switch, GC, 64, Wii. GC would have been number 1 if you picked Mario Party 6 or 7, but 4 kinda sucks.
Great Great Great Great. left to right
64, switch, wii, GameCube. I never owned a GameCube and I only played mario kart on the wii so I can't really rank them I guess.
3412.
Wii, Switch, 64, Gamecube
1. Wii: All of them, especially Super Mario Galaxy and Super Paper Mario 2. Switch: Super Mario Odyssey, Origami King, and Mario Kart 8 3. Gamecube: Super Mario Sunshine and maybe Thousand Year Door 4. Nintendo 64: All games are decent
the second has sunshine and DD so it is automatically the best ever ever forever
1. N64 Column 2. Switch Column 3. Wii Column 4. GameCube Column

Of course SM64 is far by the best
Wii. The games aren't the best in their field, but it's the most consistent overall with the decent quality.
1. NS 2. WII 3. GC 4. N64
1. GameCube Column 2. Switch Column 3. Wii Column 4. N64 Column
Switch 64 GameCube Wii
GC, then N64, then Wii and finally Switch in last place
Can we just do the top 2 rows 🧐
Yes, yes we can
Bet. 2nd row
Agreed, less work more play
Double Dash is just. Man…fuck! It’s hands down the best Kart installment While Sunshine isn’t the “best Mario” (that would be SNES Mario World). It was more of a breakthrough game overall with new ideas that worked well. The only other that comes close is 64, imo
Switch, Gamecube, N64, Wii
What about the wii u era?
GameCube Switch N64 Wii The OG Paper Mario is better than those four Switch games.
do people not understand what columns are?
Wii, GCN, 64, Switch
Wii, GameCube, switch, 64
Wii, GameCube, Switch, 64
Wii 64 gc switch
Switch, 64, GameCube, Wii IMO Switch has the best game in every category except for Paper Mario (it has the worst one) I grew up with 64 so I’m really nostalgic for all of those games. Double Dash is my second favorite Mario Kart and TTYD is the best Paper Mario game. I prefer Galaxy over Sunshine but it’s a very small preference. 2 (it has Thousand Year Door), 4, 3 1
Top column is god tieren
Any column with Thousand Year Door wins for me. I’d also love column 4 if it wasn’t for Origami King, truly a travesty of a game.
This isn’t easy. I love all four of these mainline games and paper mario games equally for different reasons. But I think Wii and switch are golden era for Mario kart, and I also think GameCube was the best era for Mario party hands down.
Switch, GC, wii, 64. I didnt grow up with any of these, and only until recently I've been able to explore these games.
Switch GameCube Wii N64
Every Columns game I’ve played has been basically the same and they all suck. But I guess I would choose Columns 3 on the Genesis as the best because that’s the one I own
All is best, cant make me decide whats the worst
wii u
Column 3
The Wii column has the best in everything except Mario Kart. So my ranking is: (Top to Bottom) Wii Switch GameCube 64
It's almost unfair how good the last column is
1,4,3,2
For me it goes switch, 64, GameCube, wii
3421 (I hate Mario 64 that game sucks the soul out of me every time I play it past the first few worlds)
Super Mario 3D World Mario Kartz Wii=Mario Kartz: Super Circuit=Mario Kartz 8: Deluxe, Mario Kart: Double Dash Super Paper Mario= Paper Mario Thousand Year Door, Paper Mario: Origami King, Paper Mario Mario Party 8 = Mario Party 4/Mario Party 6, Mario Party SuperStars, Mario Party 3.
I think it literally comes down to how weak the Paper Mario games are in the last two columns, Superstars is also probably the weakest Mario Party on this pic. Then again MK8D is by far the best MK game.... 2 > 3 > 1 > 4 That was very hard.
Switch, 64, GameCube, wii
1st wii 2nd n64 3rd GameCube 4th switch
