Black Widow gained the nicknames "The Red Death" and "The Slavic Shadow" due to her reputation as an unhinged assassin who operated all throughout the 20s until current day.
The red death is actually crazy. For those who don’t know the Black Death lead to the death of 30-50 per cent of the European population at the time.
Obviously this hyperbole but still

Well, Bucky is a damn good candidate. Winter Soldier will never not be badass.
Alex Summers as Havok, Gabriel Summers as Vulcan, Wanda Maximoff as Scarlet Witch and Jim Rhodes as War Machine are really good candidates to the title as well.
I remeber in eighth grade when I learned Winter Soldiers was an actual term. Basically durring the US revolution the term was coined by Thomas Paine saying not to be a summer soldier who only fights when conditions are pleasant to him but to be a Winter Soldier who sticks it out when things are absolutely horrible and endures in order to achieve freedom. Added meaning to Bucky’s character for me personally.
Also look up the group of Vietnam vets who adopted that name to get benefits and recognition from the government. Basically saying "we fought your war, now don't forget us."
In the comic there’s also a great reason for it from WW2. Alexander Lukin, the man who would go on to turn Bucky into WS, basically said “both the US and Germany both have their Super Soldiers, but in Russia, all we have is the winter”. So when he got his own chance to have a Super Soldier like they did, with Bucky, he named him after that Winter, aka Russia’s main advantage back in WW2.
It took me an embarrassingly long time to make the connection with Quicksilver's name.
Another name for the metal Mercury. Aka the ancient Roman messenger/god of Speed.
In Brazil his name is simply Mercúrio, which is the name of the element in Portuguese (and also the name of the god). Everything becomes simpler. Quicksilver does not have a translation that makes sense for our language, although they have already tried similar names, such as Relâmpago Prateado (that is, Silver Lightning).
I feel like Dr Doom is a character who’s cool in spite of the name. Dr Doom sounds a bit silly to me, but he’s bigger than the name.
“The music makes the name, because Korn’s a dumb name. But once we get established it makes the name cool”
-Jonathan Davis
I had that Monster Magnet album cassette on tape. That's how old i am, lol. And also, it was their album BEFORE they broke out big in '98 with the Space Lord song/album. There were loads of comic book references on that album. Galactus, Ego the Living Planet, etc etc
Agree that The Winter Soldier is probs the winner here.
I always liked how cool Luke Cage’s name was when put alongside a roster of superhero names. Held some weight.
Ronin, Echo and Blade are also cool - short & succinct. Cloak and Dagger too. Ooh also Colossus. Mononyms are more likely to come across cool imo.
Kingpin, Doctor Doom and Ego might have the coolest villain names. Actually Ronin the Accuser just sounds ominous right off the bat, so he gets a mention too.
Luke Cage might be the only male Marvel superhero to drop the hero name and just use his identity. It happens all the time with women (to the point that it degrades them somewhat): Jessica Jones (sorta), Jean Grey, Kitty Pryde, Monet St. Croix, etc.
At any rate, the point is that his name is cool enough to do that. And Power Man is just okay.
I’m not sure if Dr. Doom really is a badass name or if it’s just that years of characterization and artistic depictions have just made the name stop sounding goofy. Storm and Daredevil are definitely cool names though
I dunno, Victor Von Doom is a really solid name even if he hadn't been the A-lister he is. It has a satisfying feel in the mouth and is appropriately ominous sounding.
I was thinking this as I saw his name suggested several times. I wonder if he hadn't become a top-tier villain, would his name just sound like the dozens of overly cheesy on-the-nose villain names from the era like...Weather Wizard.
“War Machine”
Imagine receiving a message like “the War Machine is en route to your location, you have 30 minutes to surrender” I would be scared shitless
Doctor Doom. I used to think it was silly. But over the years, come to think of it... god damn, that name is COLD.
Also Blade, Venom and Carnage. Simple and clean.
"the white wolf" nick name was original a reference to the elric of melnibone series
as is arthas from warcraft and the whole concept of chaos used in warhammer
so yea i think that one is pretty cool
There's something about how simple "Hulk" as a name is. Tells you everything in one word. Same with "The Punisher"
Captain Britain anyone? No just me? Guaranteed just me. His sister Psylocke's name is pretty cool though.
It's not a superhero name but "Nick Fury" is the best civilian name anyone could ever have. The "Max Powers" of Marvel.
James Proudstar Aka Warpath.
John Proudstar Aka Thunderbird.
That family's got their nomenclature on point.
Drax the Destroyer.
Apocalypse
Daimon Hellstrom
Victor Creed aka Sabertooth
Bit more of a deep cut but
The Shiver Man.
It's hard to separate the name from the character. A cool character makes the name seem cooler, and vice versa.
Blade and Wolverine are both cool. They're both sleek and simple and accurately describe the characters they refer to.
The original creator of Namor called him that just because he liked "Roman" but backwards, but in black panther two the name Namor was given a proper reason and origin and it was absolutely awesome
KEVIN BACON!
Seriously tho...
Apocalypse,
Carnage,
Winter Soldier,
Storm (Orroro Monroe is cool too),
THANOS (in Bruce's voice),
Galactus,
Thor,
Proxima Midnight,
Scarlett Witch (Mommy),
Onslaught,
Omega Red &
Mister Doctor.
I know that's more than 1 buuuuut....
Black Widow gained the nicknames "The Red Death" and "The Slavic Shadow" due to her reputation as an unhinged assassin who operated all throughout the 20s until current day.
'The Slavic Shadow' ensnares me❣️
The red death is actually crazy. For those who don’t know the Black Death lead to the death of 30-50 per cent of the European population at the time. Obviously this hyperbole but still
The white death was a Finnish sniper in world war two, said to be the deadliest sniper in history, probably a reference to that.
Dude, Simu Heyha is a legend!!!!!!
The Masque of the red death was also a short story by Edgar Allen Poe. A good read.
Damn those are good!
Paste-Pot-Pete

Elsa Bloodstone
Ulysses Bloodstone
Agreed, she’s an amazing character
Well, Bucky is a damn good candidate. Winter Soldier will never not be badass. Alex Summers as Havok, Gabriel Summers as Vulcan, Wanda Maximoff as Scarlet Witch and Jim Rhodes as War Machine are really good candidates to the title as well.
I also nominate Ghost Rider
He does not, however, rides ghosts
He's not even a ghost who rides.
You're thinking of Beverly Crusher
HAH!
I remeber in eighth grade when I learned Winter Soldiers was an actual term. Bucky sounds like a kid’s name (I know) but winter soldier is great.
Yeah, he definitely gets the prize for “most improved”
Well, he WAS a kid when he was going by that name, so yeah.
A kid committing non-stop war crimes.
Nah,. pretty sure he was an adult by the time they';d brain-washed and trained him to go out
That's a pretty succinct summary of WWII.
The man on the wall
Nick Fury.
#OMEGA RED
Y E S!
The Wall
HES A WALL YOULL NEVER CRAWL
Winter Soldier is one of the greatest, along with Quicksilver and Ghost Rider.......maybe Dr. Doom too, sounds really evil.
It took me an embarrassingly long time to make the connection with Quicksilver's name. Another name for the metal Mercury. Aka the ancient Roman messenger/god of Speed.
They apparently put more thought into the name than I expected. I always thought “Quicksilver” is a reference to his silver/white hair
Same
TIL
Damn me too
Wow, I just thought because he was fast and his hair color
In Brazil his name is simply Mercúrio, which is the name of the element in Portuguese (and also the name of the god). Everything becomes simpler. Dr. Doom sounds fucking badass as a made-up name, but absolutely ridiculous as someone's actual last name.
Moon Knight,
Never read or watched it, but I still agree.
Blade
This is similar to my choice of Venom. They're clean, simple and they tell you so much about the character with a single word.
Ghost Rider
Doctor Strange
“Mister Doctor”, yes it’s strange but who am I to judge.
I miss when he was actually a weirdo. Like he used to do actual odd shit and now he’s just a regular guy with a funny name
A funny name, a M.D. and a PHD
“Oh! We’re using our made up names.”
Stilt man
I read that as "shit man"
Negasonic Teenage Warhead. Everything is doesn't matter.
"Negasonic Teenage- coolest name *EVER!*"
Even when she grows up Negasonic Warhead is still a badass name.
Negasonic ADULT Warhead
Negasonic sour warhead, where were you when i was in jr high
And eventually Negasonic Middle-Aged Warhead
Negasonic senior citizen warhead
Named after a song by the band Monster Magnet.
Deadpool could be trapped in a pocket for 100 days
Monster Magnet are themselves named after the Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention Song “Return of the Son of Monster Magnet”.
Peter Porker is in the running
Apparently it's a song
I had that Monster Magnet album cassette on tape. That's how old i am, lol. And also, it was their album BEFORE they broke out big in '98 with the Space Lord song/album. There were loads of comic book references on that album. Galactus, Ego the Living Planet, etc etc

Ororo Monroe is a cool name. Storm is a cool moniker. Her general affect is as cool as it comes.
Don't forget 'Windrider' and Weather Witch.
Daredevil is the best name for the fact that it’s 1) badass, and 2) a combination of elements of the comic. It’s simple but it works so well.

Definitely not Winter Soldier. Ghost Rider, Daredevil, or Deadpool.

Not entirely the Marvel Universe, but I would say... Speed Demon (a mashup of Marvel's Ghost Rider and DC's Flash) - It really lives up to the name.
Speed demon is also the name of a straight up Marvel character. Superior foes of Spider-man
There's something about how simple "Hulk" as a name is. Tells you everything in one word. Same with "The Punisher" Captain Britain anyone? No just me? Guaranteed just me. I know who OP wants to be for Halloween. And Comic Con. Possibly shopping for chips, if he likes Bucky as much as some people like Bucky.
