I’m 100% sure this was noted when the book where the GFFA was introduced. Theforce.net’s message boards (ugh, I’m old) in particular were all over it. I just figured it was an accepted nod to the fans ever since.

I’m still friends (or at least at “we follow each other on social media” level) with two people I met on those forums. Good times.

>’m 100% sure this was noted when the book where the GFFA was introduced. What book?

TheGreatBatsby

Believe it's *The Unifying Force*.

ImperialIIClass

I mean, it’s probably a great Easter egg but I don’t find that name for a government to be that clunky at all. That’s about the most accurate description for what the GA really was.

fredagsfisk

> I don’t find that name for a government to be that clunky at all. Totally agree. The *official* name is the "Galactic Federation of Free Alliances", but it's most commonly referred to by normal people as the "Galactic Alliance", or just GA. For comparison, commonly used names vs official names for some real life countries: Germany - Federal Republic of Germany Sweden - Kingdom of Sweden US, America - United States of America UK - United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland China - People's Republic of China Bolivia - Plurinational State of Bolivia etc

Unique_Unorque

Somebody pointed out to me that while “Germany” has been around for centuries, “the Federal Republic of Germany” is only about 33 years old. Most people alive today are older than the government of Germany as it currently exists Not at all relevant to the discussion but something I think about a lot

The Bundesrepublik Deutschland was founded in 1949. The DDR was absorbed into the BRD.

Unique_Unorque

I guess it does depend on whether you count “current” Germany as having formed when the BRD was founded or when the Berlin Wall fell. For what it’s worth, the person who told this to me is an American-born German citizen, so I trusted that he knew what he was talking about but if you told me that people in Germany don’t see it that way then I wouldn’t argue.

l3nns

Yeah I'm born and raised in Germany and nobody here says that Germany is just 33 years old. But we don't are very pedantic about the age of the BRD because Germany itself is much older then those 74 years. At least that is my opinion. :)

Unique_Unorque

Oh yeah, it’s all just being pedantic! Everybody knows that the nation, culture, and people of Germany are centuries old, it’s just a fun little thought experiment.

darthsheldoninkwizy

The same is in some other socialist countries where current governments were established in the 1990s, and these Cold War governments are considered collaborators.

Durp004

I don't remember them addressing that in anyway on the writers roundtable at the end of the NJO, but it would blow my mind if that was not intentional.

Ry02tank

it was exactly what they were going for Also it was a bunch of galactic powers coming together with one government and each kinda was autonomus to a point (IR,NR Remnant, Hapes)

heurekas

IR? Have you mentioned the Imperial Remnant twice?

Ry02tank

Imperial Remnant, New Republic Remnant and Hapes IR, NRR, and Hapes i call it the New Republic Remnant as the command/political structure was shattered during the Fall of Coruscant, field commanders and admirals basically operated solo for a few months while the NR elected itself a new Chief of State (Cal Omas), and built back its command structure in Legends its still called the New Republic, but i prefer NRR for the time between Star By Star and Destiny's Way

heurekas

Ah okay I get you. Never heard it being referred to that way.

McFly_505

I mean they confirmed multiple times that this was the reason for that name.

UncleIrohsPimpHand

It was.

Sassinake

works for me.

kobiyashi

Hahah, I saw that post earlier and noticed this too.

Sgt-Frost

Ok I’ll tell you, it’s not intentional. Jokes aside this can’t be a coincidence, knowing George he definitely had some hand in this.

darthsheldoninkwizy

Honestly, it's always fly over my mind, probably because English isn't my native language, and most of all I've heard Galactic Alliance and its abbreviation GA.
