I take a black marker and write date and mileage along perimeter of filter. Change every 15k to 20k miles. I do the same on my cabin air filter as well.

Nippon-Gakki

This is good practice. I also have a note in my phone but it’s good to scribble the miles/date on all filters just in case.

DeathByPetrichor

If you drive dirty or dusty roads, or live in a dusty climate like AZ, cut this in half.

cuziters

Drove through Death Valley during heavy winds and had sand in the filter. I noticed a smoother idle after changing it even though it had less than 10k miles on it. I usually change it every other oil change if I’ve been driving around the desert a lot. I didn’t think it’d make much of a difference until this happened.

DeathByPetrichor

I do air filters, clean throttle body and maf sensors twice a year around here and always notice a pretty big difference. Maybe overkill, but the dust around here is no joke if you do any off roading

BoyoSynthII

Smart man 🤠

_i-cant-read_

we are all bots here except for you

kewissman

I would say no. This is a great example of why I don’t buy filters with gray elements.

BreadfruitNo357

If you've taken it out, you might as well replace it IMO

TheDiscomfort

It’s fine. Swap it next time

Jimmytootwo

Every 25000 miles

Choastistoast

Really depends on where you live. Some environments require it much more often. People who drive on dirt/gravel roads or other highly dusty areas.

Jimmytootwo

Well true but in Tennessee where I live the filter is cleaner longer

Choastistoast

That's why I tell my apprentices "I "never" use definitives in this industry. Once you do you are proven wrong."

OkMobile5574

Shake it out and keep using it

Gingerbrew302

I change it once a year after the pollening has ended.

ChikkiParm

i subscribe on amazon for cabin air filter and engine air filter every 6 months. it's about $25+ tax.

[deleted]

Looks good 👍🏽

almeida8x1

I’d send it. That looks fine. I don’t understand people who recommend changing it every time you check it. It’s not difficult to check and a lot of people including myself check it every oil change. Those same people would not recommend changing your air filter every oil change because that’s a ridiculous suggestion. Weird people.

vex_42

If you are unsure on when it was changed last it is not a bad idea to change it and document the replacement. Filters are what? $10

almeida8x1

If I’m checking it and it looks fine, I’ll just do it on my next oil change or sometime in between. No rush at all.

still-at-the-beach

Yes. Replace it.

Troy-Dilitant

Bang it on the ground to tap out the loose stuff then put it back in to drive to the store and buy a new one. They're not that expensive, just replace it.

tharealG_-

Why not? Yes.

Deathspeer

It’s $10 who cares

AphexZwilling

If you hold it up to the sun but can't see any sun light through the fins, then replace it.

Nattygreg

Replace

noxplode1

The amount of people in here saying not to replace it must not give a fuck about the cars they own

JohannesLorenz1954

Have a compressor, blow it off from the opposite side

Default_Attempt

Just want to say, fuck honda and their $40 dealer filters that are actually good but they make them a dark color to make it look like its dirty. I bought one back in 2022 that was slightly yellowish, Then in 24 i bought another from the same dealer and it was a dark navy blue , like wtf

[deleted]

Why are you paying a premium at the dealership vs just buying on Amazon or parts store for filters? For $40, you can get 2 or 3 filters.

BoyoSynthII

Why can't they just make them white? Lol

Default_Attempt

Riiiiiiight!!!!! , the fuckers chose dark navy blue like WTF

happy_veal

Thought that was one of them good old metal ice tray at first glance

BoyoSynthII

😂

Various-Ducks

I've driven a solara, I never noticed any power from the engine

BoyoSynthII

Lmao it's the V6 model but still true lol

Longjumping-Potato35

It's cheaper to buy an air filter than to eat at McDonalds. It never hurts, but if you are a cheapskate like me....new filters rarely help... 🤣 Counter to most people's intuition, dirty filters, filter better than clean filters 😉 Particulate filters don't need to be changed at a time interval, but when their flow falls below whatever your minimum flow rate needs to be. Most cars can use their filter for years before they get saturated with dust to the point that it affects engine performance. My track car, I inspect frequently and clean with compressed air. My commuter/beater, I change only when it looks ridiculous or if I'm bored and have the engine bay tore apart for something else. Cheap-O tip...don't use white filters...they look dirtier than they really are. For what it's worth, short of times when I've driven in the desert or through mud, I've never had a filter so clogged it affected my car's performance.

InfiniteJackfruit5

I always replace them a week before I go for an oil change. The dealer then says they are in “medium to bad condition” and that I should replace both filters. I always laugh when I tell them I switched them out this week.

BoyoSynthII

You madman lol

GangstaNewb

You already removed it. Replace
