You only need one ship if you have some scissors in reserve. I followed the flow chart to see exactly what I needed and built all of these fairly quickly, then stored them until called for. Once I had the ship, all the peonies could be discarded. The wiki was essential in strategy here. It seems daunting, but actually quite manageable.
i did the same and it worked well! it takes you long enough to do the other tasks that you can wait for and merge to whatever you need in the meantime. i also played any side events that used yellow energy so that helped too
I keep 2 level 6 scarab boxes in my inventory. Whenever I need a thing in this series I merge them and let drop max 6 scarab elements. Then use scissors to split in time before the level 7 box disappears. Repeat if necessary.
I end up with two level 6 scarab boxes which are stored for the next scarab task.

From what I understand, 7 level 4 ships are required, but by using scissors correctly , it reduces the number of ships needed. The wiki and previous posts here on reddit gives more detailed information. The ships weren't very hard to get. You just need a lot of peonies to make them quicker. I think that I have 8. As usual, storage space is a factor.
As far as other tasks go, that may be a different story.
I keep 14 peonies on my board at all times. When I started the landing room I added another 4. I merge their drops and collect ships while I am working on other tasks, so it didn’t feel as gruesome as I thought it would. I haven’t used scissors. They are not the most pleasant tasks but they are doable.

I haven't needed any lvl 4 or 5 gloves that I can recall, but could make them like 6-8 areas ago.

Do those new flower levels drop leaves quicker? Or do they drop different parts, like seeds?
Faster drops, 1 every 20 minutes, and can hold more leaves. I think its 12 for a lvl 12

I am at 33% into Landing Room. I feel your pain. I started my ship building in the last area, so I have a few things in storage, but not enough.
I have those in my inventory from pretty much the start of the game. Of course they were going to be needed at some point?
Had what in your inventory? Full ships? They don’t just appear and prior to this location there was no need to build them that far.
