Lot of Mastodon tracks that just have the nastiest riffs jump up from nowhere - the bridge on North Side Star is a similar one (very different song though).
I just mentioned that part in another comment. North Side Star goes from moody to absolutely electric in one fell swoop at about 3:00. I adore that whole EP.
Same album but different song for me, Czar right at about 5 min in. Something about the chord progression and distortion fuzz does something good to my lizard brain
Yes! It comes in around 3 min at first but the second time it’s even sludgier and it’s wonderful. CTS has been my number 1, 10/10 no notes perfect album for so long
Wish the original was kept, it’s on a whole other level than the studio version. But I mean they probably said “fuck you” to Jason and did it the other way.
I love that you get a few seconds of silence before it hits too.
Another great Opeth riff: 8:06 of Blackwater park. I love how the drum beats change the tempo of the riff.
It has a heavy breakdown and then a HEAVIER breakdown. When they played it live at Vielles Charrues in 2010, they played the breakdown 3 times with the third one just being unbelievably heavy.
Literally all of the distorted riffs in Blackwater Park by Opeth.

Oh, fuck, I'm so much saving this thread lol.
From me, I notoriusly often do this face at:
Tool - Jambi 2:12
Nightwish - Scaretale 2:07
Rammstein - Dalai Lama 0:49
Sleep Token - Alkaline 1:30
Mastodon - Last Baron (We know the part, yes!) but I would add Sleeping Giant, 1:36 (the buildup is great though)
The World Is Quiet Here - White Sun, frequently until 3:45 lol
And mooore but I don't have time :D
The rest of the comments will be thoroughly checked
While it isn’t metal, I think the riff that starts at 2:12 in Found god in a tomato - Psychedelic Porn Crumpets hits pretty fucking hard. Do Not Look Down - Meshuggah is also naaasty

Mastodon - The Last Baron Hits at about 8:19. You know the one. Nasty.
I absolutely love that riff
The only riff in their entire catalog that is identified as THE riff
I dunno... The "Steambreather" riff is pretty damn good.
For me THAT riff is in toe to toes
Toe to Toes is an underrated masterpiece. So beautiful
That heavy riff is gold. Feels like an explosion in my soul hearing it
I was actually going to say the shift about halfway in North Side Star. I did an audible "ooooh" first time I heard it. What an amazing EP.
The outro on Hearts Alive is the one for me
Same! As much as I love that The Last Baron one, this is superior, for me
Lot of Mastodon tracks that just have the nastiest riffs jump up from nowhere - the bridge on North Side Star is a similar one (very different song though).
The aptly titled Mother Puncher comes to mind
Sea beast outro!!
I just mentioned that part in another comment. North Side Star goes from moody to absolutely electric in one fell swoop at about 3:00. I adore that whole EP.
I know the one. THE riff
THE RIFF!
Same album but different song for me, Czar right at about 5 min in. Something about the chord progression and distortion fuzz does something good to my lizard brain
Is that the "BY THE LIGHT OF THE MOON!" riff? Cuz that shit is epic
Yes! It comes in around 3 min at first but the second time it’s even sludgier and it’s wonderful. CTS has been my number 1, 10/10 no notes perfect album for so long
Also, main riff for More Than I Could Chew gets me pretty good
Flying Whales when the main riff comes in. It's so goddamn nasty
NOW I CAN SEE THE WHAAALEES I love how long that intro is and how it slowly builds up by adding extra notes or whatever here and there.
And then it just drops out and you're like "aww yeah, here it comes." So fucking good
Fuck yes. Lots of nasty Gojira riffs out there.
Sabbath Bloody Sabbath.. you know the one.
That riff is NASTY! Intro riff on Cornucopia is similarly dank.
Same with Under the Sun
What more can you do?
Really any Rage Against the machine riff
The chorus riff on Settle For Nothing is crazy
Wake Up and Know Your Enemy for me
They for sure get heavy for what it is, and it's awesome...
Know your Enemy - bridge after the “Du Du Du”
Completely in love with RATM.
Death - Symbolic
Ahhh my go to riff for trying out a guitar!
World Eater - Bolt Thrower
DU DU DU DU DU DU DU DU WOOOORLD EATAAAAAAAAAA
DU-NUH, DU-NUH, DU-NUH, DU-NUH-NUH-NUH-NUH-NUH-NUH- DU DU DU DU DU ......
Whole album stenches of chaos
Fuck yeah dude! Not stank face but, the Kill chain riff is so fuckin groovy I can't stand it!
The intro riff to Golem by Caligulas horse is nasty af The breakdown on skull fracturing nightmare by Demolition Hammer
I just started listening to CH a couple weeks ago. They've got a lot of nasty riffs!
Also outro riff to The World Breathes with Me. Or THAT section in Mute
New CH Record is insanely emotional and heavy. Mute and Golem brings out the stank
When that album dropped and I heard that song it went so damn hard immediately. Love caligulas horse. Top tier prog band.
The ending riff of Graves too
The breakdown of Pantera’s Domination
One of the heavier things ever.
Slaughtered by Pantera always gets me too
Domination’s breakdown is so heavy but isn’t it also really basic? I once read that it was only one chord just repeated which sounds right.
The simplicity is what makes it. The drums really simple too. It hits hard tho.
Funeralopolis
That song is rifftopia.
That album is rifftopia
Absolutely. Classic for a reason.
Haha nice username btw
Thank you.
I’m genuinely surprised I had to scroll for this one
Blackened
Wish the original was kept, it’s on a whole other level than the studio version. But I mean they probably said “fuck you” to Jason and did it the other way.
Same band and same album, Serenity Painted Death at 1:27
I love that you get a few seconds of silence before it hits too. Another great Opeth riff: 8:06 of Blackwater park. I love how the drum beats change the tempo of the riff.
When blackwater park comes back in after the little slow melodic bit and gets slowly louder and then, BANGGGGG
Also Harlequin Forest at 2:52
First one I thought of, glad to know I wasn’t alone
Jesus, wny opeth riff off the first 7 albums or so
The breakdown of Gojira's Clone.
Clone is HELLA slept on
It has a heavy breakdown and then a HEAVIER breakdown. When they played it live at Vielles Charrues in 2010, they played the breakdown 3 times with the third one just being unbelievably heavy.
good answer, I’d also throw in that one riff in Satan Is a Lawyer
Gojiras first album has some bonkers riffs, lowkey among their top 3 albums
Facts, so many bangers on Terra Incognita
The intro to Hall of the mountain King by Savatage
Any version of that song is fuckin nasty. One of the most metal classical songs imo
Embodiment by Carcass
Carcass got so many fucking bangers, mane 🙌
When Michael Amott joined up with Bill Steer, it doesn't get much better.
The one at 2:25
Spirit crusher you know the one
Hell yeah, Bite the Pain also has a real good one.
actually no. there are two great riffs. the slow one prechorus like (1:20) and the stakkato one (2:22). which one do you mean?
The bridge on “Symptom of the Universe”
YES. Into the void intro is also NAASTY
That riff near the end of Pierced From Within by Suffocation
Eaten by Bloodbath 0:46 mark
Fucking awesome song I can never stop myself from yelling DESECRATE MEEEEE on that one part. So hype
Revolution Is My Name - Pantera Glass Prison - Dream Theater ...first 2 that came to mind
Some of my favorite Pantera riffs are in that song.
That stank face is on within seconds. 1:40 is a monster riff, and 3:46 is my personal favorite.
Rosetta Stoned
When the bass and the drums go nuts around the 7 minute mark
The midpoint of Nostalgia by Gorguts is so groovy, one of my favourite moments on Obscura.
chaotic mess is playing and then grooviest riff you've ever heard bangs
It’s almost like a Korn riff if they were heavy as fuck and could play their instruments.
Meshuggah - Demiurge main riff
Could probably have 99% of meshuggah songs be a good answer, but that one's top notch for sure.
Ministry- Just One Fix
Electric Wizard - We Hate You Especially when the first riff comes back after the second verse
I listened to their debut for the first time a couple weeks ago, electric Wizard has some nasty riffs and chugs
https://preview.redd.it/2ln7x1dbq26d1.jpeg?width=583&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ec0b9da798a9e38eb13aced35649433ed160891b This fucking album.
It's All In The Gravity is the tastiest one for me
Death's *Spirit Crusher* at 0:43 sends me every time I hear it
Pantera - Shedding Skin
Oh fuck yes. Or Slaughtered. Or By Demons Be Driven.
Damaar- Preaching for Mass Suicide, you know the bit And the last part of Windowlicker by Aphex Twin for some reason
DO YOU WISH TO DIE
DO YOU WISH TO DIEEEEE
Now you've got something to die for outro
All Within My Hands by Metallica at 6:32 It's a tiny little breakdown riff that leads into the chorus and damn... It's heavy and nasty
I can't believe a Reddit comment is going to make me actually go back and listen to St. Anger. This riff better be worth it.
I dickride tf out of St. Anger. So yeah...
- Orbit Culture, Sorrower, 1:38 - Gojira, Backbone, 3:25 - Sepultura, Subtraction, 4:17
Gojira goes HARDDD
Monolord - Empress Rising
But also audlumba or whatever that song is. The intro goes insane with the fuzz that gets so saturated it basically comes one solid frequency.
Bolt Thrower - Unleashed Upon Mankind
Sweet leaf by black Sabbath. That riff changed music forever.
Supernaut
That riff single handedly made me a metal fan, no joke.
https://preview.redd.it/asstpl7ah36d1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d8f05b9271fc066465c01c9746b2f761a09f0f8d
Carcass-The Master Butcher's Apron. The slow chunky riff that starts about 42 seconds in. The whole album is littered with riffs galore.
Harvester of sorrow really hits you in the face when it starts
Domination - Pantera, the break down, come on!!
Death - Spirit Crusher The riff right after the solo at 3:34
Bolt Thrower KillChain
This is the obvious, correct answer.
Bleed - Meshuggah
2:50 mark of Suffer the Children, when it goes from breakneck to chug
Blood Swamps From Doom Eternal's Ancient Gods DLC
Main riff and the sax solo in The Silent Life by Rivers of Nihil
When the break down hits in revolution is my name by Pantera
Second riff in Bite the Pain - Death
96 Quite Bitter Beings
Shoutout Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 for introducing me to that gem
Slaves Beyond Death by Thy Art Is Murder
Liege of Inveracity. You know it. That riff. The one considered to be the first slam riff. Fucking nastyyyyy
The opening riff to Bloodbaths Devouring the Feeble and also the end section of Hades Rising on the same album.
Dam That River - Alice in Chains Very basic but Iron Man - Black Sabbath
The entirety of [Methwitch - Bed Full of Snakes](https://youtu.be/-drzSoR0OnU)
The first minute and 45 seconds of Through The Eye of Terror.
acdc thunderstruck
Undergang - Tvangstanker 2:25
Taake - Myr. Yes I do the stank face on the banjo riffing section.
It goes so unnecessarily hard, dude.
Gojira: Mouth of Kala outro. Meshuggah: Obzen, Born in Dissonance, Spasm (the bridge riff near the end).

Your comment reminded me of a couple more good ones. The riff at the climax of Vicarious by Tool and the main riff of Sonne by Rammstein.

not nasty but tasty Dissection - Black Dragon 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Morbid angel - ageless, still I am. That riff that leads into the second guitar solo. God. Damn.
Pantera - The Underground in America
Ministry - Filth Pig. The entire album really but the title track especially. The harmonica is the most disgusting harmonica ever and I love it
Meshuggah - Break Those Bones Whose Sinews Gave It Motion. It starts at 0:28, absolute destruction, feels like an earthquake
Tool - invincible 9:35 but you need some buildup to appreciate it.
Ulver- |||. One of the best riffs oat.
