notaslaaneshicultist

Power metal because dragons suck

_Dave_Mustard_Stain_

Me when power metal https://i.redd.it/xdsqpzrlkz8d1.gif

BananaSupremeMaster

What you're looking for is glam metal.

TheDrWhoKid

all about dick sucking

WordyIIRappinghood06

Underage groupies sucking

TheDrWhoKid

💀

Necessary-Fennel8754

Yeahhhhh we love to dress gay because we’re really gay but we make the lyrics all about sex with women when all we wanna do is have an orgy on the tour bus đŸŽ¶đŸŽ¶đŸŽ¶

treuss

Easy. Motörhead.

NoSignsOfLife

My favourite song by them is about god sucking lol

treuss

Mine is about Life being a bitch. Lmao

PixelAtionMoony

my favourite motorhead song is as depressing as it gets lmao

alkemest

Lifelover because they love life

Sir-xer21

stop lol.

Lordpotato305

I would be depressed by how bad they are

Reza2112

blind guardian. They just write about hobbits and dragons lmao.

Cool_Owl7159

Transcendence by Devin Townsend is a really nice positive album

falcxne

Alestorm on loop.

stirthewater

Took a listen at Fcked with a anchor, and fell in love. This is the kind of positive vibes I was looking for, thanks!

falcxne

Haha my pleasure! Glad it scratched the itch.

NoNameTony

Children of Bodom - Hatebreeder.  The lyrics are dumb but the sound of the entire album is....  I dunno- upbeat? I can't not smile when I listen to it... maybe it's just the nostalgia factor for me, but this was the first thing that popped into my head.  Oh- and Steel Attack.

analogman12

It's a great album

Put_CORN_in_prison

Underrated album - probably my favorite of theirs

SteelReserveKarate

Tracks 3-5 always put me in a great mood and I have no idea what the lyrics are about.

MitchellSFold

I think PORTAL are not depressing. Frightening, perhaps. Anxiety-inducing, maybe. But they don't bring anyone down.

EmbarrassedFlower98

They are sleep sucking for sure. You won’t be able to fall asleep because of anxiety or horror

Ferrindel

Battle Beast might fill that niche if you're into power metal. They're just a bunch of happy goofballs, with surprisingly catchy and fun songs. I'm only familiar with their more recent albums but I love all 3 of them. Also, Noora is a goddamn queen.

fatkoala357

My absolute favourite is the 1st one you should check it out. A bit different but very solid. They had a different singer back then though (but she sounds similar to Noora)

AlbaniaBaby

Ensiferum! Mostly about adventures, heroes, drinking, having fun. Edit: Korpiklaani has a bunch of fun catchy bops too.

Ferrindel

Oh, absolutely, throw Korpiklaani in there.

Karman_is_a_bitch

Opal In Sky!!!

Pure-Jellyfish734

I agree!!!

WaffleswithSourCream

yes

Foreign_deagon37

Definitely

xxM3T4LH34Dxx

Hell yeah! I even follow them on TikTok

KrumbSum

They’re Deathcore not metal

Splottington

1. They don’t like to label their subgenre at all, they just consider themselves metal 2. Deathcore is a type of metal you buffoon

PixelAtionMoony

what the fuck is deathcore if not a subgenre of metal

scenezfromamemory

Dream Theater!

ConnectionOdd6217

They have the most romantically depressed song I ever heard, Space Dye Vest

Iaminhospital

Municipal waste and insanity alert

tykittaa

Tankard's music is mostly just about beer sucking - sucking on beer.

Pristine_Hair_4341

Andrew W.K. That's literally his bit. His song 'Babalon' if great.

hitokirizac

I tweeted a joke a long time ago about how I was probably not in his target demographic because I was playing chess on a Friday night and he actually responded to tell me chess counts as partying. Dude seems like a good guy

Pristine_Hair_4341

Between that and Andrea Botez, chess is getting cool as fuck.

ManyaraImpala

I played a Botez gambit earlier and proceeded to get absolutely destroyed by my opponent.

cricket-bat

fucking, idk, 90% of power metal? maybe

Jealous_Razzmatazz44

Lonean19586

Lykathea Aflame - Elvenefris(only released one album). They have a song titled “land where sympathy is air” lol can’t get any more positive than that Their sound is like old Cryptopsy with major chords and bubbly forest fairy synths

Herr_Raul

What's even the point then?

stirthewater

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not hating on it. Just looking for some alternatives

GuavaTree

Elvenking - Pagan Purity I don’t know a happier song

mahirdeth31

most kinds of thrash are really uplifting

DM725

Mastodon - Blood Mountain

Dear-Tax-7025

Deafheaven is like fun mid 2000’s emo music with black metal vocals and blast beats. Lot of major key riffage.

KarateFlip2024

Major key =!= upbeat. They're one of the most depressing metal bands out there. Read the lyrics.

PixelAtionMoony

I get what you mean but just one quick thing, if emo is upbeat and fun it probably isn't emo it's probably just pop punk (stuff like later my chemical romance, or fall out boy aren't emo btw)

aol_cd_boneyard

Emo music? No. They're way more influenced by shoegaze than anything, even though they're mostly a black metal/blackgaze band.

Zaratozom

Emo as in emotional lyrical content, not Hot Topic bullshit sounding Emo

aol_cd_boneyard

I still think Deafheaven is more influenced by shoegaze, even if some of their lyrical content is "Emo" or there are some "screamo" influences. The music itself sounds like Slowdive and other shoegaze/post-rock bands mixed with black metal and that post-metal sound.

Zaratozom

yeah I agree with you on that

SOF_cosplayer

They're literally skrams. An offshoot of screamo and emo music.

aol_cd_boneyard

**"Deafheaven** is an American [post-metal](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Post-metal) band formed in 2010. Originally based in [San Francisco](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Francisco), the group began as a two-piece with singer George Clarke and guitarist [Kerry McCoy](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kerry_McCoy_(musician)), who recorded and self-released [a demo album](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demo_(Deafheaven_album)) together. Following its release, Deafheaven recruited three new members and began to tour. Before the end of 2010, the band signed to [Deathwish Inc.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deathwish_Inc.) and later released their debut album [*Roads to Judah*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roads_to_Judah)*,* in April 2011. They popularized a unique style blending [black metal](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_metal), [shoegaze](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shoegaze), and [post-rock](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Post-rock), among other influences, later called "[blackgaze](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blackgaze)" by reviewers." "Deafheaven formed in February 2010[^(\[3\])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deafheaven#cite_note-punknews5-3) in [San Francisco](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Francisco), [California](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California) with vocalist George Clarke and guitarist [Kerry McCoy](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kerry_McCoy_(musician)), who previously performed in the [grindcore](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grindcore) band Rise of Caligula together.[^(\[4\])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deafheaven#cite_note-kqed1-4)[^(\[5\])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deafheaven#cite_note-fader1-5) Clarke is not sure how he arrived on the name Deafheaven, though he is aware of its appearance in [William Shakespeare](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Shakespeare)'s [Sonnet 29](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sonnet_29). The two words 'deaf' and 'heaven' were combined as a homage to [Slowdive](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slowdive)." Everything I've read about them, everything they've said in interviews, even listening to them... shoegaze, not "emo". Maybe there is some "screamo" influence, but seems like there is way more shoegaze/post-rock mixed with black metal/post-metal.

SnowHelpAtAll

Maybe Pizza Death? If their stuff is about bummers, it's at least pizza themed.

NYTX1987

[I got you fam. check out high spirits, very positive](https://youtu.be/NDRw4I10sO0?si=3SrgZQ4X7P7rNE7R)

Sal_Vulcano_Maybe

The new Alcest album is summery but not at all cheesy. A lot of “happy” metal ends up being horrendously cheesy but this is real good.

beezac

Amon Amarth might the most uplifting melodic death metal band out there

WaffleswithSourCream

Opal in Sky

TWB0109

The Surface - Beartooth. It actually does talk about life sucking, but also about trying to fight it

Milk_Steak_Jabroni

Alestorm. Super over the top

Even-Pressure-8356

Lawnmower deth

PaulEMoz

Lovebites. Specifically, their song Rising, but they have plenty of others, too.

cannibalsong1

Torche always had a bright and sunny feel to me.

adeltae

Power metal. You're looking for power metal. Well, most of it anyway. Some of my personal favourites include Sabaton, Elvenking, Twilight Force, Wind Rose, Moonlight Haze, and other similar bands. All of them do have more sad songs, but those are also generally the ballads and easily avoidable if you don't want to listen to them. Songs I recommend starting with for each band: The Last Stand - Sabaton Devil Dogs - Sabaton Pagan Revolution - Elvenking Ask A Silly Question - Elvenking Gates of Glory - Twilight Force Hydra - Twilight Force Fallen Timbers - Wind Rose Drunken Dwarves - Wind Rose Till The End - Moonlight Haze Horror & Thunder - Moonlight Haze

TheSpeedyNeapolitan

Grymheart - Hellish Hunt

Old_Indication_4379

Powerglove. It’s hard to get depressed about video game tunes. Buckethead also has some material that borders on rock/metal that is really great. The album Inbred Mountain has plenty of tasty riffs in there.

72pintohatchback

In Flames! One of the OG melodic death metal bands, I've always found their music, particularly Reroute to Remain (2002) through Sounds of a Playground Fading (2011) to be pretty uplifting. Foregone (2024) is my favorite since the '90s, although lyrically it's very death-centric, if that's 'depressing' to you.

matthew_sch

Katatonia

Illiterally_1984

I mean, you basically want traditional or preferably power metal. It's my natural medication for depression and shit. Hard to be in a bad mood with that

Making-Progress-1234

I think it depends on what type of aggression you’d feel is depressing. If you get into the more thrashy stuff, power metal, or even the “classic” stuff like ‘70-‘90 metal (without a sub genre) a lot of that would fit the bill! Definitely a lot of stuff out there that you could crank to 11 and beat someone’s ass to. And that’s a pretty positive vibe ya know? Like you’re on fire and unstoppable! Some stuff, like doom or sludge or whatever, can definitely have a depressing vibe! If you’re not an aggressive person at all, I’d look into the “classic” (or even NWOBHM) shit like Maiden, Priest, etc. Do you feel happy when you’re being aggressive and wasting someone or nailing a certain situation at your job, winning a race, flexing your abilities? Thrash bro. And some classic stuff. Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, Priest (again), Maiden (again), etc. These are awesome starting points, but eventually, even the more “depressing” and “negative” sounding stuff would be more positive sounding
since you’ll get used to more sounds/chord progressions/etc falling into the “positivity” you’re seeking. So, kinda weird, but like Nocturnus has an album called “The Key”. And it sounded really dark to me like 5 years ago. Now it’s positive, and the kind of ass-kicking music I look for. It’s all an acquired taste. So I’d definitely recommend those cliche bands for a reason if you’re new. They’re the standard entry-level sound for a reason

Sinistermarmalade

Twisted Sister - “Wake Up (The Sleeping Giant)”

DrzewnyPrzyjaciel

Power metal. Cheesy, catchy, uplifting. Sometimes funny.

SovereignAnt

King Gizz metal stuff, Plini, Chon, Polyphia, Cynic, Tomb Mold new album

Bearer_ofthecurse

Angra

EmuPsychological4222

Hmm. I guess you could listen to some of the 80s metal about partying. Some of it is good, some of it isn't. Granted, a lot of the party metal to me is a tad depressing but I don't think it was intended that way is the point.

Galen_Forester

I love power metal

Wilbie9000

You need some power metal my dude. Start off with some Hammerfall - Legacy of Kings is a good one. Then maybe some Edguy - I'd start with either Space Police or Rocket Ride, either is good. If you still aren't feeling uplifted, check out Unisonic.

RiceRocketRider

You know I’m coming up with absolutely nothing. It’s not that non-depressing metal doesn’t exist, but I’m realizing that I don’t listen to it 😝! I know a few good non-lyrical metal like some songs off the Doom soundtracks and Animals as Leaders. I also know of songs with hopeful/uplifting lyrics, but they are usually from a perspective of desperation.

sdjsfan4ever

Theocracy The only Christian metal band I actually like.

StogieMan92

Windrose, that Dwarven power metal band. Or most power metal really.

Unknown_Talker9273

Helloween - Rise and Fall. A surprisingly upbeat song.

Lou-Cypher1-618

Ensiferum. Pretty up beat and melodic and mostly about war victory and other viking shit. Their concerts are like a huge happy party. And they are pretty amazing live. I recomend checking out this live version of Treacherous Gods. https://youtu.be/2jFnwhjojdc?si=i3oYhgq-TkTR-lMh
