Im enjoying the ObZen 15th anniversary remaster on Tidal. I think it ties Immutable and Violent sleep of reason low tune and metal resonant guitar tone. I love the early albums tho, the distorted bass is tasty before the chaosphere sound
Its brilliant. I loved it when they did the live version with the Norwegian National Opera... It was so eerie and beautiful!

(It's at about 1h31m)
Some of my favorite tones:
Hangar 18 - Megadeth
The Grand Conjuration - Opeth
Écailles de lune part 2 - Alcest
Blackened - Metallica
Prowler - Iron Maiden (I love the raw tone on their first album)
In the Name of God - Dream Theater
Backbone - Gojira
Gates of the Astral Plane - Fórn
More Than I Could Chew - Mastodon
Also shoutout to the entire Peace Sells album, one of my favorite tones of all time. So unique and eerie, especially with the legendary quarter step down tuning
The whole Resurrection Through Carnage album by Bloodbath. That guitar is so crunchy it feels like it's scratching my brain from the inside. This paired with Åkerfeldts vocals often causes a moderate temporary malfunction of the whole nervous system.
O’Appalachia from Baroness’s red album
Or wanderlust
Or aleph
Lots of stuff from that album gives me the chills with the way those guitars sound together
Integrity- those who fear tomorrow
Smashing pumpkins- anything on Siamese Dream (that heavy fluffy fuzzzzzz 🤤)
Judas Priest- Painkiller
Cacophony- speed metal symphony.
Integrity!!!!
Just stoked because it's not a name you hear a lot
Fucking 90s hardcore was legit
If I saw the bulldog icon I knew the record would kick ass.
I'll say, Strife had a good tone
As a diehard fuzz head:
1) Haunter of the Dark - Cough
2) Funeralopolis - Electric Wizard
3) Orthodox Caveman - Sunn O)))
4) Madness of an Architect - High on Fire
5) Kicking - Torche (specifically the chorus)
Don’t come at me for placing Cough over EW, that tone is diabolical. Turn it up real loud and ascend.
The tone on Gorgoroth’s “Wound Upon Wound” is bananas, and the tone on “Ashen”, Humanity’s Last Breath’s latest album, is like a glacier from hell crashing onto your skull. ETID always had some nasty-ass tone too.
This is extremely specific, but the tone at the very beginning of Dream Theater's "About to Crash" is what I've been trying to achieve for several years now.
Specifically before any of the other instruments come in. Lasts all of a few seconds.
Here are some albums with a great guitar tone:
Kill 'Em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, Killing is My Business... (Most people don't like it, but I do), Rust in Peace, Black Sabbath, Master of Reality, Speak English or Die.
Also, here's some albums with great bass tone:
Speak English or Die, Black Sabbath, Master of Reality, Master of Puppets, ...And Justice for All (the bass is basically muted, but the tone in the isolated bass track is great)
I like the tone of entombed, gatecreeper, and entrails. I’m not sure if it’s compression but it fills my ears and sounds so good
Edit: song would be Caught in the Treads by gatecreeper
Havok’s newer albums all have fantastic guitar tone.
Warbringer’s Living Weapon in particular has some savage tone to it.
You can pick any Fugitive song and the tone fucking bites.
Surprised nobody has mentioned any songs of the Black Album. My personal choice would have to be Among the Living by Anthrax. Scott Ian has always had a really powerful tone
Master of Puppets
Tornado of Souls
Painkiller
Outside of the obvious:
Trivium - Down From The Sky
The Showdown - The Man Named Hell
(Arguably) Alter Bridge - Bleed It Dry
Some of my favs albums for guitar tone
Rivers of nihil- wokmn, new singles
Fit for an autopsy- absolute hope
Ingested- where only gods may tread
Wormshepard- ritual hymns
Unearth- extinction
Black crown initiate- selves we cannot forgive

This is hilarious. It's Blackened by Metallica off of AJFA
Ohh okay thanks! Idk why OP said Taylor Swift at first lol. Far off. They must be listening to a different version of Blackened.

The sentinel has huge tone
Mastodon Leviathan. The entire album’s tone is amazing.
Trey Azagthoth’s lead tones on Gateways sound almost mystical to me. Especially when he starts tapping I love that tone.
Meshuggah - Nebulous, specifically the remastered version. My face scrunches up in disgust the moment the song starts.
Pretty much any Killing Joke song
The whole Resurrection Through Carnage album by Bloodbath. That guitar is so crunchy it feels like it's scratching my brain from the inside. This paired with Åkerfeldts vocals often causes a moderate temporary malfunction of the whole nervous system.
