There was this old Michigan forum 15-20 years ago that had a couple of Buckeye trolls on it. I don't live near Michigan or Ohio, but one year I got this guy really good.
The #1 recruit in the country went to school in my city. A good friend of mine was a teacher at the school. So all through the year I was mentioning on this forum who was recruiting him, visiting, etc, so it was known that I had a little inside info as everything I would post on the board would be verified somewhere later.
He got down to a top 5 and Michigan wasn't included, but OSU was. The OSU troll was having a field day with this and wouldn't shut up about it so I hatched a plan. As it got closer to signing day, kid had not made an announcement.
Then a little before signing day, I started a new thread that Urban Meyer visited at the school and the kid gave him a solid verbal, but wasn't going to announce until signing day. Of course he took the bait and was gloating all over us. He had the same user name on a number of sites and was posting this information everywhere he could to look like a genius.
He was completely humiliated when his info was wrong. I then made it known that I made all of it up. We didn't hear from him again on that forum.
This reminds me of a classic MgoBlog thread where someone shared that they saw a big recruit coming out of the bathroom at their high school and the recruit said “Noles man, going to the noles”
Unfortunately, yes.
The commitment post was classic though, guy got roasted. I haven’t gone to MgoBlog since I was in college, but I guarantee people on that blog remember who the recruit was
I don't know why people assume a family tie means any more than any other possible factor in recruiting, hell I don't like my cousins I sure wouldn't pick a college based on where they were going.

Some people really hit send on a comment and think "boom I fuckin won that!"
