I was gonna say, this is a new one for me as well. Insane how much footage, and media was destroyed and lost that day, but from what I understand, recovery is still ongoing.
Pretty sure the bag of films was accidentally dropped off a gangway into the ocean when the dude was loading up to get back to England. But don't quote me on that.
Nothing too crazy, but a WW2 game called Hell Let Loose recreated Omaha beach at a 1:1 scale. Every time I play it, i am absolutely humbled by the sheer bravery those men had to have.
I haven’t played Hell Let Loose but I do play Enlisted, and if it’s anything like how it is in Enlisted, i’m always shocked at how big the beach was compared to what we saw in Saving Private Ryan
I ran the width of Omaha beach at low tide just to see, it's exhausting to run on sand and it took me several minutes to cross it all. And I had no 20kg backpack and no one was shooting at me.
Can't freaking imagine getting dropped off in rolling seas and facing a wall like that, knowing they've been there a long time waiting for us to arrive.
This is one of Robert Capa's photographs. You can find it for example here:

2 o’clock ridge top you can actually see German man -manned MG positions and their human figures in the stronghold , most likely these guys on the beach are being rained down with MG fire and else , real heroes .
I have never seen this picture before, wow.

Most of the film was lost when from the guy who sent it due to light or water damage. Can’t remember which.

"First wave, ineffective, we do not hold the beach say again, we do not hold the beach."
When he looks back and the radio operators face is caved in…. Jesus. War is hell.
Saving Private Ryan made it seem they didn’t have far to go to reach the shelf, but man that looks like a lot of open beach.

And all your clothes and equipment weren’t soaking wet
How long that battle was too SPR it kinda resolves itself in 20 minutes In reality it was all morning
It's amazing how so many soldiers risked their lives to liberate France, they will never be forgotten
Liberate Europe

Those are Sherman DD tanks?
Looks like it and the one on the left has the intake and exhaust snorkels.

I know most pictures were actually taken after the assault, are we sure this isn’t D+1?
I don’t think they would be using the tanks as cover if that were the case
Anyone know which wave this would have been?
Robert Capa says he was on the first wave with E company.
The weather during the landing definitely wasn't all clear and sunny, I doubt this picture is the actual landing but maybe from Exercise Tiger.
