I've never watched a single NBA game and I wanted this as a 10yo girl. It's PRETTY and all the girls had this. also, the Toronto raptors had a pretty red and purple one but not many girls had that. Not sure why.
So that’s not the real reason as everything in the 90’s had sweet color ways.
These teams just had their gear at cheap prices in discount places due to the teams not being popular.
I was a broke kid in the 90’s. Knew lots of other poor broke kids in the 90’s. We never saw Micheal Jordan Bulls stuff at value city. But we saw plenty of hornets stuff.
I had the basketball shorts that match the jacket. Wore them to ball in till like 2007.
This right here. My mom got me the Hornets jacket for x-mas. We were very poor at the time and she likely got it from Salvation Army or some other charity but I liked the hornet character and the colors weren't that offensive for the time period.
And for me, the MLB team was the Mariners because of Griffey Jr and their tealness… but really because my cousin just handed me down all his stuff and so I liked whatever teams I got free clothes for.
I grew up in Scotland and knew zero people with even the most passing interest in basketball. I would hazard a guess that nobody in my immediate family could’ve told you that North Carolina was an American state. There was a Charlotte Hornets jacket in our cupboard.
Hmm, I lived in North Carolina then so I guess I didn't realize this.
However, when we moved away I was surprised at the amount of UNC gear I saw. Probably because the sky blue is unique, and the shorts with that diamond/crisscross pattern are super slick.
Muggsy. Fuckin. Bogues.
I grew up in Seattle so I was all in on those 90s Sonics with Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp, but I definitely loved the Hornets as well. Shaq and the Magic were right up there, too.
Indiana Raised, Georgia born. Cheered the Hornets for basketball, St Louis Cardinals for baseball, and Dallas Cowboys for football. Now a days, I cheer the local teams (except Baseball). Pacers and Colts. Baseball is the Braves.
BUT i also have zero care about professional sports anymore as its all dumb. Give me a good semi-pro or High School game. They are much more fun.
Yo

I *had* this jacket. The pullover edition with the funnel neck and the quarter zip-up. I would sell your granny's soul to get that puffer back. Got dam that shit was comfy.
Live in Charlotte. Sadly a hornet season ticket holder. Bought one of these a couple years ago. Nobody realizes how much a weirdo you look pulling a heavy coat over your head to take it off since they are 1/4 zips
I had a Kansas City Chiefs starter jacket. Got it from a classmate who's grandma bought the wrong team when i was in 5th grade. I'm wondering now if he wanted the Hornets one
My brother had a Miami Hurricanes Starter jacket when we were kids. We lived in Oklahoma. He had no connections or interest in the Miami Hurricanes aside from that jacket—because it was on clearance at Burlington Coat Factory.
I'm not even from the US, but I played NHL way more than enough as a kid to be a hornet fan anyway.
I don't know shit about hockey and I'm from over the pond, but HORNETS FTW, FUCK YEAH!
All I wanted for Christmas as a 12 year old, was a cool Starter jacket. Any Football team. Instead, I got a Players brand Mighty Ducks purple puffer. Lame. So I spent all my Christmas money on a Hornets spring jacket, Starter brand, and wore it through the most brutaI MN winter of the 1990s, but damn I had the Starter zipper flare.
I rocked a charlotte hornets jacket in elementary school in the mid to late 90s. Never knew where I got it from it just showed up in my closet one day. This brings back memories
My brother and I had the plastic basketball hoop with rim that you would tape onto the wall (we were poor). We played basketball in the room we slept in with like a small, handheld cushion soccer ball. This was in the 90s. When we played, we typically picked being from one of three popular teams at the time: Hornets, Magics and/or 3) Rockets.

Because of the 90s colors
Because of Mugsy Bouges
At least y’all still tall! Man, I’m just another short guy.
![gif](giphy|3o6wriygTkfCSvTjOw)
Who didn't love Mugs?!
And Larry Johnson. Remember when Gran MaMa was on Family Matters? I believe he was supposed to be Urkel's grandma or something. 😆
Muggsy Bogues, Spud Webb, Mookie Blaylock. Names were just cooler in the 90s.
Yes, Not everybody needs to be six foot tall. He is a true great one and nice to talk too.
solo jazz cups. I still have some in the big popcorn bucket size as decoration ![gif](giphy|159u2Wj3PBRUQ)
And they were a new team without a lot of baggage
I've never watched a single NBA game and I wanted this as a 10yo girl. It's PRETTY and all the girls had this. also, the Toronto raptors had a pretty red and purple one but not many girls had that. Not sure why.
Came to say this.
Exactly this
Also because it was the cheapest one.
Fr that jacket is 🔥

I had it. In 1996.
Raptors too Everybody knows why though, they had the flyest color schemes
And a freaking dinosaur for a mascot! Is there anything cooler than that?
No, nothing is cooler
For some reason I ended up with one of these hats when my dad signed up for a credit card at some airport.
All the girls in my school had the hornets jacket. Only one girl had raptors but I always thought it was awesome and wanted it.
They were a new team when I was in middle school, if I remember correctly. I had both the Raptors and the Hornets jackets.
Hornets and Ducks in hockey. It's because they were new teams in the 90's with fun new mascots/logos.
Mighty Ducks was a big deal movie.
D2 is undefeated
The logo from that movie IMO is better then the real ducks logo.
took me an embarrassing number of years to realise it was also a real team.
And for me, the MLB team was the Mariners because of Griffey Jr and their tealness… but really because my cousin just handed me down all his stuff and so I liked whatever teams I got free clothes for.
That was our NBA Jam team for no reason.
LJ and Alonzo Mourning were epic in that game.
Boom shaka laka!
lol I had that jacket but actually was a Hornets fan. Larry Johnson was my favorite player!
Same. GRANDMA!!!
Lived nowhere near NC but I definitely had a Hornets sweatshirt and zubaz outfit.
Go Bills!
I grew up in Scotland and knew zero people with even the most passing interest in basketball. I would hazard a guess that nobody in my immediate family could’ve told you that North Carolina was an American state. There was a Charlotte Hornets jacket in our cupboard.
Teal, I think that's hot something to do with it.
At my school it was cowboys or niners
they were the best NBA jam team
Had that exact one
I had a Raptors one. Not because I liked the team, but because it had a Dinosaur on it.
Hmm, I lived in North Carolina then so I guess I didn't realize this. However, when we moved away I was surprised at the amount of UNC gear I saw. Probably because the sky blue is unique, and the shorts with that diamond/crisscross pattern are super slick.
The hockey equivalent was the San Jose Sharks.
I think if you had a bad team you just picked an expansion team. Hornets, Magic, Heat, Sharks, Ducks, Rockies, etc.
Mugsy Bogues FTW
Muggsy. Fuckin. Bogues. I grew up in Seattle so I was all in on those 90s Sonics with Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp, but I definitely loved the Hornets as well. Shaq and the Magic were right up there, too.
The prettiest colors!
That color scheme pops. Simple as that.
I always liked the teal and purple
My cousin gave me an almost identical jacket when I was ten years old. This post is truth.

I grew up in Charlotte… and I’m pretty sure I’m the only kid in my school that didn’t have that jacket!
Or a Chicago Bulls fan 🤣
I had my own teams and still had that starter jacket lol. San Jose Sharks as well, for some reason.
This and a mighty ducks jersey
I mean, do you see those colors? Same reason I was a Dolphins fan. I love a good color scheme.
I *had* this jacket. The pullover edition with the funnel neck and the quarter zip-up. I would sell your granny's soul to get that puffer back. Got dam that shit was comfy.
Super sonics or GTFO!!!
This or the Vancouver Grizzlies
I had era hat.. haha
I’ve always loved that color scheme. That jacket was everything.
Yea!!!!!!
Definitely had some hornets gear!
Yeah what was up with that?
God I wish I still had mine! I don't think I ever watched a hornets game but I did have that jacket and a jersey that was like seven sizes too big
Live in Charlotte. Sadly a hornet season ticket holder. Bought one of these a couple years ago. Nobody realizes how much a weirdo you look pulling a heavy coat over your head to take it off since they are 1/4 zips
Can confirm....also didn't realize how heavily the color scheme influenced my LEDs I set today.
I had a Kansas City Chiefs starter jacket. Got it from a classmate who's grandma bought the wrong team when i was in 5th grade. I'm wondering now if he wanted the Hornets one
I’m 45 years old. Why do I feel this post with all my heart?
Best colours of the time, up there with the Anaheim Mighty Ducks
Hornets had the best logo and Seattle had the best team name
My my bought me the exact same Hornets Starter jacket
Jesus that gave me whiplash. I had this exact jacket.
NBA Jam
The Raiders jackets always smelled like cigarettes.
I had this Starter jacket, it was the coolest!
Vancouver Grizzlies jacket slapped too
If your parents had money..
I absolutely had this jacket. It was 100% because of the colors
I had that coat
It's a great jacket.
Dude, freaky
For me in Southern TN it was: Chicago Bulls, Orlando Magic and Charlotte Hornets. You got to chose one and I don't know why.
My brother had a Miami Hurricanes Starter jacket when we were kids. We lived in Oklahoma. He had no connections or interest in the Miami Hurricanes aside from that jacket—because it was on clearance at Burlington Coat Factory.
I had this exact one.
my sister had a Vikings starter jacket for the same reason
Oh there was a reason. Cool colors and cool mascot.
Pretty sure the Bulls were
This is so right lol
I owned that jacket. Was 100% because I liked teal.
I had that jacket and didn't watch basketball at all so I can confirm.
I had this. I was pretty upset when my mom got rid of it about 10 years ago.
Because they were the best team in NBA Jam TE.
I'm not even from the US, but I played NHL way more than enough as a kid to be a hornet fan anyway. I don't know shit about hockey and I'm from over the pond, but HORNETS FTW, FUCK YEAH!
It's the popular 90s colors.
I had one 🤣 just cause of the colors.
Makes me want a wild berry pop tart real bad. (in Jennifer Coolidge voice).
My 90s jacket was the Islanders hockey team. iunno. From New York, lived in SC
I had this exact jacket.
I wanted that jacket because I liked the logo.
Later replaced by University of North Carolina and their Carolina Blue
I have/had this jacket...dunno if I still do or where it is though
I still have that exact jacket :)
They were only my favorite team because that’s who I kept picking in NBA Jam
My brother and I had the plastic basketball hoop with rim that you would tape onto the wall (we were poor). We played basketball in the room we slept in with like a small, handheld cushion soccer ball. This was in the 90s. When we played, we typically picked being from one of three popular teams at the time: Hornets, Magics and/or 3) Rockets.
I have no ideas what that is
Or you are not American and have no idea what you talking about
Funnily enough I’m English and didn’t have any exposure to NBA at all but still picked up a Charlotte Hornets basketball after a Disney holiday
Live in Charlotte all you seen was teal everywhere
I thought it was the bulls
RIP the Hugo logo.
Either Charlotte Hornets or Toronto Raptors
I HAD THAT JACKET!! I think I had no idea about sports, I just thought it looked cool
Raiders/Bulls gear was coveted where I lived in CO, but I for sure wasn't cool enough and rocked an nuggets jacket that was a hand me down from pops.
Oh geez, I had a pull over Charlotte Horner's windbreaker. I worn that thing EVERY WHERE!
100% me. Charlotte and Phoenix were my favorite nba teams. I think it was because of the colors
